OnlyFans is getting out of the pornography business.

The company will prohibit users from posting any sexually explicit conduct, starting in October. Creators will still be allowed to post nude photos and videos, provided they're consistent with OnlyFans' policy, the company said Thursday.

The changes are needed because of mounting pressure from banking partners and payment providers, according to the company.

>get in a business relationship with a porn site
>make big money for years
>suddenly tell them to stop selling porn

i really dont get it
Onlyfans got bad publicity in the past few months because it was discovered that minors were posting & selling nudes on onlyfans.

Banks won't screw around with child porn. Neither will the very rich owners of onlyfans. Money is kind of useless if you end up in prison.

Better to take your profits and get out now.

As ridiculous as it is for a site focused mainly on porn to get the porn kicked out of it, the banks and advertisers complaining about it just sound moronic. What did they expect? They started to make advertisement/payments while the porn was commonly known to be at the forefront of the site. If they don't want their brand associated with porn then they shouldn't make investments on a site kown to have porn on it.

I don't get it. They say they're doing it to satisfy their "financial partners" by which I take to mean their payment processor will cut them off if they sell porn. But porn sites have payment processors too. Someone takes the money for pornhub premium and such like. So they have a choice between totally blowing up their business model and switching to a seedier merchant bank who'll charge them larger fees per transaction. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I don't think OnlyFans customers are on there for tasteful art shots. The internet is for porn.

Couldn't she do something like modelling or performance art or even acting? A lot of films and TV shows now have more women shown in the nude and sometimes pseudo-fucking, whether they're ugly as hell or not.

The woman who played Shae in Game of Thrones was a pornstar before she went into acting. In fact, there were a lot of pornstars on that show.

I'm not seeing nearly enough bitches coping and seething on twitter, but I did manage to find one:

There are so many posts in the Only Fans tag like "loooool now the porn stars will have to work at McDonald's which is funny because it's so demeaning" bold words from all these men who certainly enjoy both porn and cheeseburgers

I was curious about this myself and did some reading up. Apparently the credit card companies and payment processors distinguish between the categories of "adult content" and "sex work." The former is considered risky, but not so risky as to be untouchable, whereas the latter will get stepped on by the credit card companies if they take notice. OF being reclassified as offering sex work, because of the interactive nature of the relationship between viewers and creators, is the death sentence.

How am I supposed to interpret this? Do you have to argue that it's "nude art"?
"Erotica" and "pornography" are two different things, from my understanding. Erotica is nudity (excluding sexual content) meant for a broader purpose other than to get a viewer hard. There's some sort of artistic value to it, at least. Pornography is half-assed winged content, sometimes parodying already-existing work, that is meant to make the viewer coom in his pants. My interpretation of this is that erotica that doesn't show sexual intercourse is still acceptable on OnlyFans.
Oh no, will "sex workers" have to find a real job?

This will go over well.

I'm pretty sure 96% of cam girls that use Only Fans haven't bothered to put some money aside for a rainy day because they thought the gravy train would run forever.
This. Just watch Fresh & Fit and Kevin Samuels to see how unprepared these OnlyFans users are. There is no thinking ahead with them.

"Why the fuck are so many people happy about this?? You realize OnlyFans was one of the few platforms where NSFW content creators were in control of their content and not being exploited right?"

Fucking stupid.

OnlyFans creators were kinda being exploited the whole time. That's why the CEO Tim Stokely was being called a virtual pimp. He takes a percentage of their revenue and since he controls what happens on the site, he can pull the plug on the operation if he wanted to. He's secure. These OnlyFans whores aren't.

Am I missing something here, doesn't 99% of OF content fall under this category anyway? Every OF leak I've seen is entirely nude shots, not even masturbation. Seems like this won't affect a significant chunk of the OF thots.

IIRC this was the result of payment processors (visa & mastercard) collaborating and using their power to police content to appease activists, and it will happen to every porn platform long as there's activist pressure.

What activists tho? It was over child porn & human trafficking, for which they could all go to prison. If your site can't ensure the porn actors are 1) adults, 2) consenting, you should be shut the fuck down. Though why the hell Mastercard & Visa are doing the job of the FBI, I don't know.

That answer go back to NULL
TLDR:
Patriot Act: Made all bank jannies of highest order
FOSTA : Increased janny to point CPP & Child Protect group can go after websites - Killed alot of REDDIT/Backpages
Trump killed part of patriot act but signed FOTSA & Loss bank concern bill because bidden won (orange man bad( gun control& Operation chokepoint)-Fair Access to Financial Services (OCC-2020-0042-0001)-
It's likely that this decision is consistent with Title 3 regulations of the Patriot Act (which, after the Patriot Act was not renewed, was shuffled into some other legislation). "Sex work" sites are open vectors to sex trafficking and the reason why Backpage (owned by Carl Ferrer, now arrested) was shut down was due to its inability/unwillingness to stop it. Whenever you have a site that opens its doors to strippers "trying to make their way through college", it also opens it to cartels trafficking underage girls. There were parents of sex trafficking victims begging Backpage to help them find their daughter or at least remove the ads from their site to hurt their daughter's pimp's business but they refused.

Pornhub (owned by MindGeek / Bernard Bergmair) had the same issue with revenge porn and child pornography. Even with its partnership with Microsoft to use AI to filter out CSAM, it had to make the decision to completely block user uploads and require verified accounts to post.

The story that they cannot acquire funding might be true in some part but I think that's actually because they're getting in trouble with sex trafficking again. There is a known history of underage girls doing porn on OnlyFans and then them having to eat shit for it. Simply put, this is criminal. The US puts the burden of verifying the age and consent of women heavily on the pornographer and with any open online platform this presents an enormous challenge.

OnlyFans's owner (British son of a British Barclay's banker) likely made the decision that it's better to dump the legal problems, slash the business down 90%, and see if they can compete with Patreon using their existing brand recognition, rather than fight the system, risk criminal charges, and then lose the business entirely anyways like Backpage did.
Patriot Act was lapsed.

"In November 2019, the renewal of the Patriot Act was included in the stop-gap legislation[11] The expired provisions required renewal by March 15, 2020.[12] The Senate passed a 77-day extension in March 2020, but the House of Representatives did not pass the legislation before departing for recess on March 27, 2020.[13][14][15][16]"

And now the OCC is going to reign in the banks.

I can almost taste the payment processor we're going to have.
To address the concerns identified
above, the OCC is proposing a
regulation to clarify (1) the obligation of
large banks to provide fair access to
financial services, consistent with the
Dodd-Frank Act’s mandate 18 and (2) the
parameters of this requirement. Unlike
prior articulations of the fair access
principle discussed above, this OCC
action would have the force and effect
of law and enable the agency to take
supervisory or enforcement action,
when appropriate.19

Supervisory Guidance,’’ 85 FR 70512 (Nov. 5, 2020)

Mr. Comptroller says he has the power.
@nya001 Kill yourself.

There are four companies that matter. MasterCard, Visa, Discover, Amex in that order. They are all cucking speech. If one of them cucks speech, payment gateways have to oblige. Discover (5% of the market) actively works with the ADL and can enforce its whims on everything.

Doesn't matter who's president. We need regulation. We needed it 20 years ago. So yes, I want the Comptroller of Currency under any president to "rule all banking" because the ADL already does and the OCC can only be as bad as the ADL.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news: https://www.occ.gov/news-issuances/news-releases/2021/nr-occ-2021-14.html

They probably will gut it or take out the part that would allow banks to refuse access from oil and gun companies. Silver lining could be that whatever they do allows individuals or smaller businesses to access banks, but it is all up in the air.

Those were my thoughts too. Alot of these people bitching are the same people paying hundreds of dollars for pics of girls in bikinis about as scandalous as a trip to the beach.

I don't really care one way or another if OF bans porn stuff since I don't use it (it encourages parasocial relationships, which are cancer with or without porn) but my thought is this: what comes to the average person's mind when you say "I have an OnlyFans page?"

My guess is probably "oh, they do porn." How is OF going to "mend" or "course correct" that reputation?

Basically, I think they're shooting themselves in the foot to a degree. It'll be interesting to see if they fizzle out to a shell of their former selves, like tumblr did.
What always gets me is the logo; from the combination of the fonts used for the "only" and the "fans" to the lock in the "O", it's design reeks of a porn/erotic subscription site rather than the generic paywall site they were (supposedly) going for. The logo adds to their reputation in my opinion.
There is no way that they're going to course correct this reputation - they are definitely going to hurt quite a bit with this move.

That's the case with all user content platforms, whether its porn, youtube, or social media, its always possible to post something illegal unless every single post and account goes through an approval process before it's visible. It's impossible to guarantee every post is legal as long as users are able to freely post content.

No one involved with the platform goes to jail because they take down the illegal content when its either discovered or reported, if the platform was held legally responsible for every user, youtube would have been shut down and its staff arrested after the first illegal post, or all sued after the first upload of copyrighted music. Kiwifarms would also be in the same situation, shut down long ago and Null jailed after the first illegal post.

That's an over simplified version of an internet safe harbor and the significance of section 230, which make social media and user-generated content possible.

Mastercard & Visa are bypassing those regulations and the law to eliminate or forcefully change platforms based on the crimes of individual users, or, as we've seen over the past few years, being affiliated with the political right, especially as competitors for Twitter launched only to be blacklisted by payment processors.
