OnlyFans is getting out of the pornography business.

The company will prohibit users from posting any sexually explicit conduct, starting in October. Creators will still be allowed to post nude photos and videos, provided they're consistent with OnlyFans' policy, the company said Thursday.

The changes are needed because of mounting pressure from banking partners and payment providers, according to the company.

they're still allowing nudity, sounds like theyre just going to be restricting some weird fetish or hardcore porn stuff

the ones who make the most money are the ones who tease the simps that thirst for more anyway so i don't think it's going to really harm their bottom line
Got to tease something harder even if you never do it, if that something harder is ruled out from the start, it has got to have some impact on subs.

It's likely that this decision is consistent with Title 3 regulations of the Patriot Act (which, after the Patriot Act was not renewed, was shuffled into some other legislation). "Sex work" sites are open vectors to sex trafficking and the reason why Backpage (owned by Carl Ferrer, now arrested) was shut down was due to its inability/unwillingness to stop it. Whenever you have a site that opens its doors to strippers "trying to make their way through college", it also opens it to cartels trafficking underage girls. There were parents of sex trafficking victims begging Backpage to help them find their daughter or at least remove the ads from their site to hurt their daughter's pimp's business but they refused.

Pornhub (owned by MindGeek / Bernard Bergmair) had the same issue with revenge porn and child pornography. Even with its partnership with Microsoft to use AI to filter out CSAM, it had to make the decision to completely block user uploads and require verified accounts to post.

The story that they cannot acquire funding might be true in some part but I think that's actually because they're getting in trouble with sex trafficking again. There is a known history of underage girls doing porn on OnlyFans and then them having to eat shit for it. Simply put, this is criminal. The US puts the burden of verifying the age and consent of women heavily on the pornographer and with any open online platform this presents an enormous challenge.

OnlyFans's owner (British son of a British Barclay's banker) likely made the decision that it's better to dump the legal problems, slash the business down 90%, and see if they can compete with Patreon using their existing brand recognition, rather than fight the system, risk criminal charges, and then lose the business entirely anyways like Backpage did.

That part was proven when PornHub removed millions of videos last year. Money is the ultimate weapon. You remove that, you can get anything you want done.
It's funny that it's not the prides getting shit removed from sites, but the libertines. Fucking bizarre world we've moved into.

I would be stunned if they could ever shake the stigma of the phrase "I have an OnlyFans"

Oh Jesus, it's going to go back to the pre-Only Fans days.

Twitter is going to flooded again with 'send amazon gift card plz' posts.

Does nobody in authority understand the concept of containment?

Watching so many barely-adults turning themselves into e-whores was getting dedepressing. Prostitution should have a larger barrier to entry than creating a simple online profile on a site so mainstream that pop songs make reference to it.

But I don't like that it's literally the banks controlling internet shit again.
Its not even sex work since they dont even have sex with the people they pay

At least prostitutes offer an actual servoce to people

Isn't October the same time the rent moratorium ends and SCOTUS returns? I foresee a lot of garden tools being super desperate when their simp bucks end just as they have to pay rent or face eviction.

It’s actually happening

The company will prohibit users from posting any sexually explicit conduct, starting in October. Creators will still be allowed to post nude photos and videos, provided they’re consistent with OnlyFans’ policy, the company said Thursday.

The changes are needed because of mounting pressure from banking partners and payment providers, according to the company.

“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, and the continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines,” OnlyFans said.

OnlyFans has attracted more than 130 million users by giving online creators a platform to charge their fans for photos and videos. Many of its most-popular creators post nude photos and videos, and it has been praised for giving sex workers a safer place to do their jobs.

But sex work still has a stigma. And OnlyFans is trying to raise money from outside investors at a valuation of more than $1 billion. The company handled more than $2 billion in sales last year, and is on pace to more than double that this year. It keeps 20% of that figure.
