I never played The Last of Us when it came out and incredibly I gotta agree with Cory it's overrated as fuck. Why do people say it's like a GOAT contender?
I remember being hyped for it. I don't know how to explain it but it was very heavy on its characters and narrative. It wasn't just that you're Sora going to the Little Mermaid world and your friends donald and goofy are there. I know heavy rain and the telltale games were out by then, but this was an action game. So I understand the appeal at the time (2013) when Uncharted was popular and people went crazy for anything with zombies. Walking dead was first aired in 2010 and getting more popular. Uncharted 3 was 2011. They also had the concept that the zombies came from a fungus which makes for a gameplay gimmick where the zombies are blind and drawn to sound. It's not just people infected by random disease slowly walking towards you moaning.

I also think you just have to grow into liking Ellie, thats the real experience. I think it's normal to think shes a brat but Joel and you warm up to her. I have had no desire to play the second game exactly because this dynamic is missing from it.

I doubt they are going to enjoy it, it's just not their kind of game. I think it's just hard to enjoy fully when god of war probably did a better job at being a game with a parent child story.

What's frustrating to me is that they have 15 hours of gameplay to 'warm you up' to these characters vs a standard movie's 90-120 minutes

If you have video game devs trying to ape hollywood they have a ton of leeway to be narratively lazy. Not saying they all are of course. That's obviously why (in my humble opinion) gameplay should be the first priority over everything. Sprinkle some character development in there as an extra. Like the Devil May Cry series.

Because you can watch a guy slowly bleed out when you shoot him? Max Payne 3 was doing better shooting and realistic reactions like a year earlier while actually being fun to play, with the added bonus of the cast not being all psychopaths. Rare Cory Delaminguez W right there.
Despite what "gwaphics don' mattuh 2 me" cope many gamers say, niggercattle are still enthused when a blockbuster game has all the new graphics tech that doesn't impact gameplay whatsoever. Even ensouled people inflicted with the pangs and passions of the niggercattle-mind sometimes can't help but be charmed by the occasional "push-button-for-7-second-animation" game. It's like Björk's TV hypnosis monologue but actually real this time.

The anti-thesis to this is troonslop. Wherein they, deluded by a corrupt and stunted anima, actively strip the beauty from their creation out of some warped sense of mechanical purity.

Also, most people struggle to form opinions on games other than "wow i liked it" when the game works and takes them on a fairytale adventure.

Shenmue really was the beginning of the end

Side note: Remember when people got mad at Adam Sandler for a scene in Pixels where he's talking about trashy video games and the game shown is TLOU? HOW DARE HE INSULT THIS MASTERPIECE OF A VIDEO GAME AND STORYTELLING :story:
Shits on TLOU and loves Shadow of the Colossus... Adam Sandler really is my fellow epic gamer.

This is what's fucked up about the opposition, they NEVER show the wholesome side of Null
They're manipulative and one-sided.

I can't believe this has gone over everyone's heads. Chris actually had the gall to reference the horrible abuse he inflicted upon Mika in the guise of a joke and thought nobody would notice.
He even bragged about winning the cops over.
chris's confession.mp4
I really wish Chris made a short album akin to Ween's "12 Golden Country Greats:. At least that's what his generated songs remind me of

But that's the appeal of the game and it worked for me and only in that game. I think it's fine to have a slow burn because a video game isn't two hours. A movie can be two hours, but not all media has to be that fast paced. Breaking bad is slow burn too. It takes what, 6 episodes (about 6 hours?) for Walt to decide Jessie is worth sticking up for by confronting Tuco. But with a video game it's a lot easier to give Joel a throwaway moment where his parental instincts creep up and maybe this isn't just a job for him anymore.

But I agree no part of me is itching to play the last of us again like I would with dark souls. Death stranding is way worse for this even though I liked that game. It probably took me well over 24 hours to get any character development on any of the cast. Probably over 50 hours to learn about Heartman, and that was explained in like a 20+ minute cutscene. There's a reason why Oneyplays never touched Death stranding.

What's the worst Let's Play on the channel? I forward Panic! from Oneystays or the Pokemon Arceus/Z-A playthroughs. Last year's Boneyplays also had some stinkers, I don't remember enjoying the Silent Hill Remake that much, but maybe I'll appreciate it more on a Boneyplays rewatch. I was shocked to see the Digimon Cyber Sleuth playthrough was 5 hours long, either I didn't watch it or it was the most forgettable thing ever (all Digimon fans are exactly like Ding Ding btw, this thread is for Pokemon Chads only). I'm thinking of doing a Boneyplays Marathon later this month on my days off so maybe I'll find some more Worst of Oneyplays.
Of those mentioned, definitely "Panic!", though that vid at least has been made funnier by the importance it held in DD&J's argument on their hOrRiBlE wOrKiNg CoNdItIoNs.

At least the Silent Hill remake vids had Dave, the Z-A were just meh, and the Digimon one had the all-timer "Dr. Egg's Long-Legged Dreg" video which is still one of my favourites. Panic! has to be the most uninteresting game played to my mind. Even the shitty DOS games (not my faves either) have some personality to them.

It's a game for non-gamers, which I call "horse testicle games." you know how Red Dead Redemption got lots of game journo puff pieces about how it was so hyper-realistic a horse's balls retract in the cold? It's games where they focus on little parlour tricks to distract the cattle while having a "good story" (ie emotional soap opera no different than any periodical TV show). Gamers don't care for these third-person movie-games because they're hardly games: they're boring third-person shooters at their core with some minigame distractions every now and again. A gamer understands what a scripted sequence is: when you walk to this threshold, this cutscene plays. But a non-gamer doesn't understand that, so when a character says anything it may as well be a whole dynamic world dynamically reacting to them. When Joel walks over a catwalk that buckles, Chris and co. make fun of it saying that it wouldn't collapse because they understand the concept, but a non-gamer sees it being SO REAL and would probably get off the catwalk instantly. The more you understand games the less you'd enjoy God of War Reboot, Spider Man, GTA, RDR, Tomb Raider Reboot, Uncharted, etc. I would argue that these same tricks are part of what led to the success of the Half-Life games with their scripted sequences and decent graphics: it just so happens that the actual gameplay of those games wasn't that bad which led to them holding up better over the years.

What the fuck was that
A shibboleth, outsider
Why are you on this thread if you don't recognize that?
it's literally from the video where he says that
We should never have to point this out...

And this does not even deserve a  react because this is DEAD SERIOUS. If you don't recognize every single possible quote from every single appearance of any one of the guys in any video, including things not directly uploaded to the OneyPlays channel, then you are BLOCKED from the thread you are BLOCKED from the forum and you are DONE.
UNIRONICALLY if you don't know the references you need to Lurk Moar. It's like joining a Warhammer thread and being like "why do you guys keep saying there's an Emperor since I don't get it you must be retarded."
In other words? Hold your fucking phones...

The first Red Dead Redemption was good. I liked fighting swarms of wolves or bears over and over, which you can't do in the new one because of how realistic it is and you have to put the pelts directly on your horse. Also, RDR 2 was way easier because it gave you basically quick time events when animals grabbed you. and there was no Hardcore Mode. Cougars weren't nearly as deadly in the second one, and I feel for every gamer who didn't experience the first.
