Deltarune has less reddit wholesome chungus or holds up spork moments so chris might have an easier time with this one, plus it's more railroaded than undertale but the main problem is that toby is still releasing it in chapters yearly
Can't blame anyone to write it off as the same as undertale with the fanbase being the way it is though

I would. The pacifist run is "le boops heckin snoot" kinda stuff, but the broader point and tenor of the game lampshades a lot of video game stuff in a pseudo-intellectual way, especially with how characters remember unsaved things or remember things done in other saves. The moral of the genocide run is the giga-brained take "even if literally everyone around you tries to kill you on sight, it is wrong to defend yourself." It's like Spec Ops: The Line not letting you progress without committing war crimes and then telling you you're evil for committing war crimes. It's literally impossible to get in fights in Undertale without the monsters attacking first. Undertale was so shit, I have no idea what Deltarune is about.

I feel this speaks entirely to my point. YIIK has flaws, but it was made in accordance with the creators vision, it has heart, and the dev clearly gives a shit. He made a trippy turn-based RPG whose characters are shitty millennial hipsters. Toby Fox made a turn-based RPG to actually make a bullet-hell game to tell you violence is le bad.
 
The idea of Chris ever crossing paths with Homestuck was something that has never crossed my mind. Has him or any of the Oney crew ever mentioned it?

No because in order to genocide run you have to actively go out of your way to pace around in every area killing shit until "but nobody came" shows up. It's a bitch to do just for fighting sans at the end because it just becomes a slog of waiting. Self defense just gets you the neutral route ending.
