So , the current rumor is it's supposed to be a woman who's about to undress, possibly Black Maria. Still looks more like an "Oh god, a Kama" expression than an "Oh wow, a naked chick" one.

The stomping I think threw me off 'cause I'm not sure what's even with that, if that was Apoo or something else. It could've gone either way with Sanji when it comes to a woman or a "woman". But I remembered earlier in the chapter the map pointed out there was a bath house, so that's probably what it's alluding to.

Finally started to watch One Piece, subbed version, after years of hearing about it but not really interested (after all, when I was actually around 12, the 4Kids version was the only one available, and with its ridiculous edits and cheesy voice acting, who could blame me?).

Does it actually get anywhere or am I going to watch 900+ episodes with just a bunch of filler, little advancement of the main plot, and lots of dropped plotline elements?

Would highly reccommend the manga over the anime. Anime is really doped up with filler

It would be a lot faster to read through the manga, then watch whatever parts you like in the anime. The pacing gets worse after the timeskip.
One Piece has a habit of picking up plot elements from a long time ago (an early example would be Coby returning). I don't think the anime is too different in that field.

Filler's relatively low compared to other series (*coughNarutocough*), think the most episodes a filler story arc had was G-8, which is recommended watching following Skypeia nearly 200 episodes in. Pacing gets fucked once they're about to enter the New World in episode 500, but there's still fun moments to be had in the anime thanks to the voice-acting and some cool musical cues.

Manga's faster, though. If you still want to watch the anime, go right ahead, but if you're going to stick to the manga while still wanting to see the anime, check out the movies.

1. One Piece (2000) (Released after episode 16 in Syrup Village)
2. Clockwork Island Adventure (Released after filler episode 60, before crossing the Red Line)
3. Chopper's Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals (Released after filler episode 102 in Alabasta)
4. Dead End Adventure (Released after episode 146 in Jaya which is Blackbeard's first appearance)
5. The Cursed Holy Sword (Released after episode 183 when Enel in Skypeia activates the Maxim)
6. Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island (Released after filler episode 223, just before the two episodes of Foxy Pirates filler)
7. The Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle (Released after Water 7's episode 257)
8. Episode of Alabasta (Summarizes episodes 92-130)
9. Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in Winter, Miracle Sakura (Released in the middle of Thriller Bark but otherwise summarizes episodes 78-91)
10. Strong World (Released after episode 429, last of movie tie-in filler arc in the middle of Impel Down, but it's supposed to be just before Sabaody)
11. One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase (Released after episode 489 after Marineford)
12. One Piece Film: Z (Released after movie tie-in episode 576 after Fishman Island)
13. One Piece Film: Gold (Released after movie tie-in episode 750 after Dressrosa)
14. One Piece: Stampede (Released after movie tie-in episode 896 in the middle of Wano)

If we're talking pacing, that started to really slow down around the time of Impel Down and Marineford. Around that time (or maybe a little before) the episodes themselves started getting shorter, with the runtime being padded out by the opening credits and subsequent recaps (think 17-18 minutes of content)

If for some reason the year ended with this chapter it would've been a massive cliffhanger. I think the tragedy is about to happen, and the people celebrating the Fire Festival ARE DONE FOR.
I love how Oda draws snakes, they're so goofy.

Are... are his legs snakes? What the hell, these SMILE fruits are terrifying.

Holy shit, I should've just waited for the morning before reading this chapter. Fuck, didn't see that one coming.

Oda giving Zoro the “I’m tired of all this bullshit” moment and just cutting Apoo and being dad to Chopper like always was great to see, I’m hoping for another nice splash page when he fights Kaido[\ispoiler]

Good chapter. Def could have qualified for a New Years Cliffhanger but Oda must have big plans for 1000.

(Spoilers!!!! I don’t know where the tabs are now, sorry @Trombonista)

I wonder if the entirety of Onigashima could potentially become a Homie now... come on Linlin, time for you to do something important.
