It was my general default position (I generally joked Yamamoto's gender should be labeled as Oden) but I was waiting for something that convinced me beyond a shadow of a doubt that It was just LARPing instead of an actual mental condition.

They don't do work outside the office, so the pandemic definitely didn't help out much there. Still, there's a reason why Oda tends to take two breaks a month [between JUMP's release schedule and an extra one].

In the official release, Ruffy tells Shinobu to let "him" help, so as far as they're concerned Yamato's a dude.

Still, I'd rather Yamato get over the Oden thing at some point, whether that means the pronoun sticks or not. It's one thing to inherit the will as the series shows time and again, it's another to actively try to BE someone [frell, the entire thing with Momonosuke was that he knows he isn't his father and he lives in his shadow, so he has to stand up on his own terms]. Whether this ends with Yamato meeting Ivankov and losing his tits or deciding that she'll be known as Nadeshiko after this arc is done, I don't care, just stop LARPing when the arc comes to an end [or DO be a LARPer but be funny about it].

The same official releases also refered to Yamato as "Kaido's Daugther" at some point IIRC.

The entire thing is absurdly confusing because why does Kaido even indulge in it..when he put explosives around his "sons" writs.

Only Luffy in that chapter called Yamato a he, but he's kinda retarded so he doesn't count. Maybe Kaido's got a quirk where he's retarded too but it's buried beneath the booze and the Rocks influence. And to be fair, Jack thought the same thing (are we sure Holdem thought it too? I swear that was a Jack-only thought).

I mean is it really arguable that there is something definitively wrong with Kaido's mental state?

No yeah, Jack was in Kuri when Shutenmaru was robbing people and they fought for a bit before Kaido showed up. Kaido was drunk and tried to recruit Shutenmaru, he and the Atamayama Thieves Brigade ran the fuck out of there and got chased until Basil Hawkins directed his attention to the remains of Oden Castle.

And yeah, there's some weird-ass duality thing going on in his head (example: he beats his 8 year old daughter for wanting to be like Oden yet shows reluctance toward directly harming Momonosuke and even gets this kind of "god damn it" look when Momonosuke cops to being Oden's son after being given a ridiculously easy out of it).

My mistake, Wano is a long ass arc..and there are a billion literally who Animal Kingdom Pirates. Characters.

It took me to the "reveal" to remember who the fuck Yasu actually was in terms of importance..and I legit Fused Hyori and..that female Samurai at some point.

As for Yamato, I'm pretty sure Kaido wanted a son, so he raised Yamato as a boy and she decided that if she had to be a guy, she wanted to be Oden.

This is my pet theory as well. Kaido raised Yamato as a boy because he wanted a strong son to succeed him.

On an tangentially related note, I also believe in the theory that Kaido is Katakuri's (and the triplets') father.

Technically the possibility is still there... but I’m more curious about what Perospero is about to say to Linlin and Kaido.

Because what, it’s been four chapters since he appeared on the scene with Marco? And yet he hasn’t done squat.

Drake says that he is the "lone force" of the battle and asks him to join them.
