newbie lurker here because of the recent off-topic closure but I wanna give my two cents, apologies, but my thoughts on Wano right now:

In lieu of Shanks and Jinbei showing up, I'm sort of hoping with Wano Zoro steps up big and even helps hold off an emperor on his own and really make the Straw Hats stand out compared to other pirates. You have Kid and Killer but they've sort of tampered Zoro down in terms of the Worst Generation to make the captains stand out, especially in the anime, and I think it's now time for him to show off. Luffy's gotten the usual protagonist power boost since day one and particularly with Whole Cake, but I've always liked Whiskey Peak because Zoro could be on par or hold his own with Luffy and potentially the bigger names in the world when not losing because plot. Oda's been hinting since the time skip he hasn't really shown his full power yet and even Pica was handled with relative ease, and with Enma and Ameno Habakiri Zoro might finally show off and get that good bounty and make Sanji feel bad. Leave King and Queen and Drake to the other Straw Hats.

It's kind of corny and too much like Naruto but I've been expecting for a long time Zoro to open his left eye and have observation haki out the butt. Yeah, it's as shonen a reveal as you're gonna get. Maybe this was already shown in the anime to pad it out or the manga but I watched Onepace and then switched to the manga at the tail end of Whole Cake to get caught up to date and they never actually showed him losing the eye so far.

Zoro doesn't have anything under there. He's gonna prove that badassery by covering up his good eye and reveal himself to be the eyepatch pirate all along

interesting theory
One of my pet theories is that common interpretation of the blank century is wrong and that the ancient kingdom were the bad guys while the WG were the good guys and the roles got reversed as time went on and the celestial dragons got lazy and arrogant, but this is a new one

It is close to my theory, though I am questioning part of my theory because of..the last chapter.

If the ancient history is all so terrible why did Gol D. laugh?

In regards to Zoro I imagine him head lining a fight against whichever Yonko doesn't fight with The Other Strawhats. Honestly my biggest gripe with the Timeskip is that Luffy is the only one who has had "serious" fights where they had to go all out. We are really overdue for Eneis Lobby tier "everybody gets to show off" time.

It's already been a really long time since the iconic ending of last chapter, but we haven't even crossed the announced break?

Jeez, being a One Piece fan sucks around New Years.

Today is Capone "Gang" Bege's birthday! Here are his pixiv tags.

He and Chiffon are such a great couple, and their son Pez is adorable even with a 5 o'clock shadow.

The Roger half can be excused by the fact that right before the flashback started we were treated to Oden politely declining offers of assistance from Rayleigh, Shanks, and Buggy, saying that his plans for Wano were an internal matter he and his retainers/family had to deal with themselves. Roger was dead and the crew disbanded when Kaido showed up and fucked everything up so it's a safe bet that the scene I described was his farewell to the Roger pirates with everyone moving on.

As for the Whitebeard half... I've read theories that Whitebeard tried to move in on Wano when shit went wrong, but was repelled by an early Big Mom/Kaido alliance, which might make sense of some things:
-her saving Kaido's ass from the Whitebeard Pirates being that "life debt" she holds over his head
-the anniversary mentioned when they formally announced their alliance (makes more sense to celebrate a huge victory than anything with Rocks, who they hate talking about their association with)
-that huge scar on Whitebeard's chest, which we now know was not something Roger gave him, surprisingly, which may put an interesting spin on his comment towards Shanks (unless this was one of the errors that gets corrected for the volume release)
-Whitebeard's reputation for going after anyone who kills one of his "sons", Wano's "super strong samurai", and even the "Four Emperors" and the fears the WG have towards them fighting/meeting/etc, among other things being things might stem from this very incident

I do agree that there's no way Whitebeard would've just sat back and let it go if he could do something about it, considering Oden was technically only being borrowed for 1 year, I doubt he had a farewell with the Whitebeards like he did Roger, otherwise Izo wouldn't have been part of the crew for as long as he was. Unless I'm completely wrong about all of this and there is something else going on but that would raise more questions at this point.
The BM/Kaido alliance would make sense, though it's hard to see fatty ever sticking her neck out for anyone. Doesn't explain why Whitebeard wouldn't just invade at a later date either. I can't imagine he would have just given up.

Thinking about it, it's funny how both Whitebeard and BM made crews based around family and how differently they went about it. Whitebeard adapted numerous pirates as viewed them as his own children, ultimately sacrificing himself trying to save Ace and avenge Thatch whereas BM fucked like a rabbit, threw her children's fathers aside when she finished with them and views her offspring as tools to advance her goals, willing to slaughter any of them if they get in the way when she's hungry and abusing Chiffon for simply being Lola's twin. It's definitely gonna be enjoyable when she inevitably gets her shit pushed in.

WEEKLY FIX
Also the translation is probably messy again and @Kari Kamiya will believe it the hardest so we'll blame xir, and then find out what's really going on come Sunday morning.

EDIT:
Shoddy translation be damned, please let this read out exactly, really and truly.

Chapter 969 is going to be the biggest one in a long time as we find out just exactly what the hell went down in Wano, what happens to Oden and get a glimpse of just how OP Kaido is.

Oden going ham at the end of 968 was great.

A couple months ago I claimed my entire library of DVDs were destroyed in Hurricane Dorian. However, I just came back to the Bahamas today to find I left a number of Voyages in my parents house. So far, I still have Enies Lobby and the Paramount War.

Now in my own house, which was destroyed, that's where a good chunk of my episodes were. They are probably under the rubble but by now are all waterlogged. I will know tomorrow.

SAY IT WITH ME PEOPLE
/a/ is for ASS

PS. I don't have anything against the translation, it's out and those fucks at r/OnePiece are being pedantic about their scanlations (the most accurate ones they wait for come out on Sunday... when the official release comes out)

/a/ was bitching about Oden being a Gary Stu for months and after this chapter they're seething because that's no longer the case. Truly the duality of man.

Oden's an idiot, though--charismatic and probably lucky, but he's impulsive and does more stupid things than smart. Gary Stu's are known for their vast intellect and ability to warp space around them without even lifting a finger.

In case anyone else cares, Pirate Warriors 4 is set to have a 9 character DLC pass.
I'm hoping it will be primarily new characters. 30 dollars would be kind of steep for mostly returnees, reformatted or otherwise.

Lola and Chiffon celebrate their birthday today!
