Unpopular opinion: the 4kids voice actors were generally better than the Funi ones. Maybe it’s because I heard the 4kids voices first. But I actually liked the random accents they’d give certain characters. It gave it a more worldly feel. Like they’re traveling all around the world and meeting tons of new people from exotic places, so you’d expect them to talk differently.
The shitter 4kids episodes might have better direction than a lot of Funi episodes. And any time they went hammy was actually pretty fun. I blame dub fans for being so dumb that they lap up whatever they get that isn't "4KIDS SUXLOL". And I think the reason that a shitload of episodes seem low-effort is because Funimation is well aware of this. I don't just mean recording; localization is ignored in favor of 1:1 translation most of the time and it harms the acting (compare both dubs of Neon Genesis Evangelion to see what I'm referring to).

Also the Grand Battle/Grand Adventure games showed that the 4kids actors were very capable of acting their roles properly; the main problem with that dub was direction.

That being said, the censorship was lame in general. I can kind of understand the idea behind it since it was being marketed towards kids, but kids loved Dragonball Z and that had a shit ton of violence and blood.
Might have been a corporate bias against anime in general or something. One Piece may have been one of their more violent shows but 4kids also did shit like this:

Plus DBZ wasn't immune to it either, lest we forget the Ocean dub (which itself is fucking classic, censorship be damned).

That's a good point. Especially since we now know the Straw Hats practically would come from different parts of the real world, them having a twinge of an accent would add more to their personalities. It's actually kinda funny that they went with giving Robin a southern accent in the 4KIDS dub just because of how she was dressed when she first showed up, but I think there's a touch of brilliance to it when you look at the West Blue. I mean, how did Miss Valentine, another West Blue native, sound in the 4KIDS dub compared to how she was voiced in the Funi dub?

She sounds scruffy--someone in the comments say she sounds like Timmy Turner. But although rough, there's something neat about it, especially since Jamie sounds so bland coming off of that one different interpretation. I only found one other clip where Miss Valentine lets out a laugh in the 4KIDS dub, but it kinda is similar to how the character typically laughs anyway.

Also Marc Diraison gave a shit, at the very least. He was the most fitting as Zoro. I just know Chris Sabat inserted himself into Zoro's role with his blandest voice he could've used because it'd guarantee he'd have work after Dragon Ball was over and done with.

Yeah, I'm sure there was corporate bias going on, but they also had to follow FCC's broadcasting rules and so they had to tone down the violence, or at least make it look cartoonier (given the art-style). Even Shaman King wasn't fully immune to it, and it was targeted more towards the older demographic. Changing up plot was (in hindsight) the dumbest thing they did that ultimately hurt the dub.

Talking about Zoro, that’s another thing I think 4Kids handled better. “Roranoa Zoro” always sounded awkward to me, and it feels weird to say out loud. Like I’m sure it’s fine if you’re speaking Japanese, but when it comes to English, “Zolo” is more euphonic, in my opinion.

Zeff called him out on this in the manga when he first started as a kid and kicked him for it.
Well Zeff should have kicked him more..kicked him until he stopped..or died.

Can anyone explain to me what the fuck even is the one piece?

Presuming this isn't a troll. One Piece is a treasure at the end of a Series of Islands that can't be navigated normally, the exact nature of this treasure isn't known however we do know that it 100% exists and isn't some stupid "The Real treasure was the friends we made along the way." bullshit, as when someone actually gets there it will cause a massive war within the setting.

Now, none of this matters to the Main Character..he just wants it because it gets him the Title of Pirate King..and that means he can tell everyone else to fuck off when they ask him to do something.

The 4Kids dub is eh in my eyes, but I generally prefer the Funimation dub. Both Zoros sound fine, though.
I tend to use "Zolo", not because of the 4Kids dub but because the Viz manga calls him that, even now.

Also "Zolo" is one letter away from "Yolo", which sounds about right.

Sanji sucking on Lolipops was better than him Smoking.

If he stopped smoking then we'd never have gotten this beautiful work of art.

There is nothing redeemable about the voice they gave Sanji. That kind of voice was too uncalled for.
