Interesting you mention that, I've not seen it mentioned anywhere that Higuma was the first person in to die in the series in real time (it wasn't a flashback at that point), rather than Ace and Whitebeard.

Oda does that thing where he puts something out there and it's open enough (or not strictly tied to whatever he used it for) that he can revisit it later in either or both imagery or story (see Koby about to get killed by Alvida/Koby about to get killed by Akainu). The Venture Bros. is fucking built on it. Doing this makes it look like "OH GODA PLANNED IT ALL ALONG" at points where this was not the case.

Though one thing I will point out is that sometimes it is the case that Oda plans shit out years in advance, but it's not so much that as it is Oda planning to do one thing but not actually being able to do it for years because of how he writes and how shit gets thrown into the mix constantly, like the Going Merry going down at the end of 2003 (this one may have been pure rumor though, at least the part about Oda claiming "a straw hat will die" at that time), Binks' Sake (the instrumental music) being commissioned 4-5 years before he was able to actually do Thriller Bark, Boa Hancock designed an entire decade before her debut, Ace biting it 1 year in real time after his introduction, etc

I love how their reason for wanting to see Wano is "BECAUSE!!!!!" and Oden introducing himself to Whitebeard.

It reminds me of Luffy "recruiting" Chopper. "YOU ARE IN THE CREW NOW LETS GO!"

God damn Oden really is a hilarious character and of fucking course he'd ask Whitebeard to join his crew while attacking him. I'm pretty sure Oden gets recruited to Roger via a Davy Back fight though. I gotta wonder wtf Orochi is up to since he now works for the Shogun and it seems like he is probably poisoning him. But for real, it really says something how Yasuie believed so much in Oden and the same goes for Kin and crew.

Gotta add that I can not wait for the Kozuki Oden cosplays to start pumping out and the possible dumpster fire of cultural appropriation claims
