One Piece - I'm Gonna Be the Pirate King!

Had a One Piece discussion with my brother (later brothers once his twin came home from work) last night I kinda want to share since we went all over the place but were coming to some interesting conclusions (not everything's in spoiler tags). I'm not going to be all that surprised if other people somewhere have come to the same conclusions, but wouldn't that be cool.

First thing we talked about was Shanks being an Emperor from the very start, in that we wondered whose seat he took/dethroned. I brought up the Rocks/Locks pirates in how Garp, even though he became known as a hero from that era, said that the Marines would be fucked if they were to make a comeback, like they were apparently the strongest, most feared pirate group on the seas at the time. So my brother suggested, "What if they were a Yonko pirate group?", though he must've meant the captain.

Sure, the captain could've been an Emperor, but I don't think that's the seat Shanks took over from. It had to have been someone else. So I brought up Shiki, wondering if he could've been an Emperor himself--he was on Impel Down's sixth floor for a reason, after all, but then he escaped. He could've been a Warlord--then bro said "What if he came from the Rocks/Locks pirates, but he went under a different name when he escaped so he could go searching for his old crew?" But I ended up shooting it and the Emperor claim down simply because pre-timeskip Luffy took him out. The Rocks/Locks pirates may have been unstoppable as one, but I'm certain each member of the crew is hella strong.

Though seriously, I think Shiki hailed from Wano, and if there's ever a perfect time to bring him into the manga proper, it's Wano.

Another we brought up was questioning if there's any familial connection between Ace and Luffy after all, as I had a thought about if Ace had inherited many things from his father (such as the ability to hear the Voice of all things), but when he died the Will of D he had passed on to Luffy. But I guess Luffy always had that Will since we've known him, though wouldn't it be something if all bearers of the D have this ability? Or at least have to unlock it? We only learned of Luffy having this after the timeskip, perhaps it was awakened in him when he was training.

It may still be up in the air if they're cousins or not since we have no idea who Luffy's mother is and if she has any relation to either Roger or Rouge. If they're not related by blood after all, then their only relation is with the "D" in their names. Though I figure that given the Marines/World Government wanted everyone related to Roger dead, the Monkey D.'s would've been on the chopping block if they ever learned of it. It's why I'm thinking that the only way they can be cousins is if Luffy's mother is related to Rouge.

It's also why I believe that even if Ace had joined the Marines and became a high-ranking officer, if it ever came out he was Roger's son, the World Government's going to want him dead, no questions asked. They'd have to be careful about it, however, so they'd off him off in a "freak accident" so they can dupe the world and perhaps many of the Marines. The Admirals may catch on, however, so like Akainu could have a lot of conflict in terms of having one of his cohorts die but that cohort was the son of the Pirate King and he despises pirates. (The other brother brought up something like "Like if it turned out Akainu and Dragon are brothers, the world's going to flip and go crazy." And you know what, at this point, I guess any relation's possible, but I'm personally doubting it.)

Like I'm pretty much convinced that Im was the one who ordered the execution of Ace--like it wasn't just because he was in affiliation with Whitebeard. He had to have known he was the son of the Pirate King. It's why even if he had joined the Marines, he was still going to die because Im willed it because something about Roger (whether it's because he learned about the Void Century or what) scared the shit out of him.

Then as we brought up Raftel, I went ahead to make a claim that the islands that'll be name-dropped on the Road Poneglyphs are going to be islands we've seen, like I don't think Oda is going to pull up islands we've never heard of or seen before once the Straw Hats get all of the Road Poneglyphs. So I'm calling it right now, for prosperity, that one of the four islands is Amazon Lily. There just has to be a Calm Belt island in the equation, whether Raftel's in the Calm Belt or not. Because I seriously doubt Raftel is smack-dab in the middle of four neighboring islands, the islands are going to be spread out to allow for some advanced cartography. (My brother jokingly suggested the moon will be one, so they'd have to use the Z-axis. But I think that's amazing and I just want to see the moon because of Enel.)

Man, I'm having a lot of fun with these discussions.

I usually dislike "Luffy showing off" parts of the story and this was no exception. Glad its done with, time to regroup everyone and move along with the exposition.

Pappagu really got miscast, in my opinion. He should have sounded more like an islander (I'm from the islands, and his voice is not islander at all). But instead, he gets the Johnny voice that Franky should have gotten.

...I wouldn't put it past Oda to have something similar to that in mind considering how ridiculous this thing gets at times. It would give the theme of his crew a bit of backstory too. The only thing major it has going against it is that that character has been established as a notorious asshole and is not likely to get the friendly treatment very easily (see: Crocodile).
 
Sounds like Kinemon, Momonosuke, Kanjuro and Raizo are, in fact, time travelers.
 
Yeah this better lead into some huge serious shit, otherwise it's gonna suck so hard if this turns out to be the moment one piece jumps the shark. :jacepout:
 
I'm actually trying to remember if someone had brought up the idea/theory of it. Tekking might've brought it up once but I don't remember which video it was.

I think it was brought up when trying to explain why it is Momonosuke is the age he is, and yet he remembered Roger/his father dying--OH HOLY SHIT
