No-one knew any of that stuff was going to be important for a literal decade and the characters and fights were boring outside of Enel himself. Ask people where the lore dump was pre-Wano and they'd say W7/EL or maybe Sabaody.

wasn't even talking about post timeskip or water 7 i was talking about Skypeia by itself. Clearly I am not holding it against more fascinating arcs that came after it.

That is kind of pointless to say because of course they weren't. We have this knowledge know years later but back then it was just information for the arc itself that is legit what I am talking about of course we have more in-depth stories and more interesting arcs in current One Piece and around the time Water 7/Enies Lobby dumps information about the bigger factions at play in the world. I am speaking on Skypeia on its own merit. A lot of early OP felt self contained since that is usually how a lot of series' start and rewards you for sticking with it by bringing up past events that have effects on stories that come years and years and years afterwards.

I wish something similar would be done for Alabasta, honestly. That arc bizarrely feels a little lacking in the lore department which is a damn shame.

Same with dofflamingo, only difference is ‘mingo is an amazingly written and unique tyrant trope, he grew up as a celestial dragon with a god complex but he was denied being royalty when his family left so he plays it now. But they just like his “aura”

I think this is actually why you had a lot of people willing to come into the community now. Now that the bigger picture is finally being put together.

I wasn't talking about the fighting specifically because my point was people gloss over the narrative a lot especially when it comes to lore heavy series' like one piece and sure there isn't a crazy amount of stuff here that requires you to think extremely deep (it is a shounen lol).

I am not talking about the fighting, I am talking in terms of personality and skillsets and how they are disconnected from the lore of Skypeia.

Enel showed up one day kicked out Ganfall to get access to the golden city to build an arc to find the place of infinite Verth. They just showed up wrecked shit and want the gold to build the maxim.

Enel has no connection to the longstanding Skypeia vs Shandoran feud, he just shows up and smites the shit out of both sides. The skypeians just roll over and accept it and neither them nor the Shandorans even seem to have thought about a team up because an asshole has arrived and LightningMogged both of them until someone else who can throw Enel off the throne shows up and kicks ass for them.

Skypiea is actually important to the lore, and I've not been subtle about it lol.

The things we learn are, but the events are not.

TBH Mingo was kind of trash given how much he was built up.

As soon as Luffy went into Bound Man Mingo could not keep up despite having an awakened Fruit.

A lot of the interest seems to be all the 4D Chess planning he spent years doing only to have it torn down because he fucked with Luffy. It's funniest because Bound Man is Luffy's slower more cumbersome form.

In fairness, even that wasn't enough. Dofalmingo got knocked around, but he outlasted the time limit. If it wasn't for half of Dressrosa stalling for time, Doflamingo would've killed Luffy with ease once he got worn out.

But they were. That's like saying if they didn't need to fight Oars the crew could have ganged up on Moira.

The Crew didn't need to gang up on Moria even when Moria was hyped up on 1000 Shadows, Luffy whipped Moria's ass and if not for the sun Rising Luffy wouldn't have have even needed gear 3 because jet Bazooka was enough to make Moria start puking up shadows.

Also they did not need to fight Oars at that point..by the time Moria was out in the open Oars had a broken back and was out of commission. The only reason Moria lasted more than 5 minutes against the Strawhats in general was him hiding inside of Oars.
