Given that we have not seen an awakened Logia I dunno what the limits might be, given what we have seen of Paramecia fruits being awakened a Logia might be absurd and it would be fitting that Buggy lucked into a way to get last Poneglyph..by having Crocodile be able to clear the way to it.
Maybe back in the 2010s and prior, but that's change dramatically. Luffy was at the Macy's Day Parade in THREE times consecutively, which isn't no small feat of recognition for them to utilize as a parade geared towards Americans. I've seen everything from fairground food vendors with fan art of Luffy eating their food to window decor of One Piece at book stores. Now there's a Popeye's promo of One Piece called a "Luffy Bento Bundle" in the past month. I would say it has most certainly caught on since the covid lockdowns, especially for younger generations who didn't have their perceptions skewed by 4kids.
I think there's multiple reasons on top of it, but yes 4kids acting as the proposition value was indeed a reputation killer for many teens in 2004-07 on picking it up. I knew they edited (butchered) the hell out of it, but back then even the episode count for the subs at that stage of the anime was very daunting and by the time Funimation took over, I was in college and just too busy to shovel through it with how much was out there. I also think that there was a more interest in anime/manga that had an Eastern aesthetic for its exotic factor whether it was ninjas/samurais or martial arts with a more "serious" artstyle, which One Piece wasn't on its surface. At leasts thats how I saw from the opinions of contemporaries online or in school.
Toonami was also exiled to weekends only at that point so you couldn't watch five episodes a week like you could with, say, Naruto which had weekday slots.
The Funimation version also premiered with Skypiea rather than redubbing East Blue and Alabasta arcs at first, which I guess makes sense in theory since they did reruns of the 4kids version for years prior.
i dont think we will get much backstories for blackbeards crew aside from maybe a tiny flashback like we got for some of doflamingos crew (senior pink is a good example) many dont really need a backstory.
my guess is the final poneglyph is at lodestar island or dragon has/had it but it was stolen by blackbeard. if whitebeard had it its most likely in his old home being protected by marco or marco himself is the only one who knows its location.
That reminds me didn't BB attack the RA at one point? I thought the reason we were told was to steal weapons but maybe that wasn't the real reason, especially considering the RA is still effectively sieging MG.

yeah. i dont recall much being said about that either just that it happened and that it forced the RA to find a new base. baltigo itself supposedly had ancient ruins in it as well so its safe to say even if there was no poneglyph there was still something there blackbeard wanted. which makes me believe its something oda wants to keep secret for now like how he did rocks and imu.
Covid lockdowns brought in a lot of people. Also enough time has passed that many younger people who weren't born yet when 4kids version premiered got into it.
I think there's some truth to the Covid lockdowns angle allowing newcomers to jump in and catch up to everyone. In fact, we were in the middle of the Oden flashback when the lockdowns began, and it was just as we learned a bit more about Roger and his reaction to finding the One Piece right at the start of 2020. That was a big deal to the fanbase, and it was catching attention in anime spaces, on top of news coming out that One Piece was (probably) coming to an end within the next few years, even though that was people taking it out of proportion because learning about what the One Piece is is not the automatic end to the series. Also just because Oda was making a guesstimate of when he was wrapping up the series doesn't mean it was actually going to happen as he says.
That just makes Devil Fruits even more fucked up because that means you can awaken the Jacket Jacket fruit to the point to becoming THE JACKET GOD.
And his power better be called "Ultimate Drip".

how would an awakened jacket jacket fruit even work? does the user just gain the ability stack jackets over and over until they become essentially immortal due to the number of layers of people they are wearing?
no matter what the real solution what devil fruits are, the Jacket Jacket fruits existence is going to be bizarre
i don't want to meet the guy or guys whose wish was to become a jacket. i'm sure the intention was something noble like "i want to protect my family even if i must take blows for them" but some guy thought "yeah i want to be a jacket"
