I don’t think it was sudden. Oda does this a lot introduces a character by putting them against people vastly below them and then it takes an Arc or two till the go up against someone on their level and it turns out there was always a limit they just had not hit it yet.

Luffy had G4 from the timeskip and it took till Doffy for him to need to use it and for us to learn Limits.
Got to disagree. He never ever pulled the personality swap trick again, and since that could affect somebody of Sanji's level, maybe not screw with Doffy himself, but it would definitely have allowed him to scramble the rest of Doffy's crew or the Toby Roppo. And in punk hazard he was doing shambles with ships without batting an eye. He noticed that he gave him a "villain" level power like what Robin got and had to put limits after the fact. Hence the throwaway stamina line almost out of nowhere before reaching dressrosa which really stuck out to me when rereading the series.

A similar example exists in JoJo. Pannacotta Fugo had a stand called Purple Haze, the stand's gimmick is that it's hyper aggressive and it had capsules in it's fist that when broken (usually while punching the shit out of you) would liberate deadly viruses. Purple Haze only had a single fight in the whole series because it was probably a nightmare to think of scenarios where it could work and then the character was outright written out of it like halfway through even though he was one of the main cast. Supposedly this was because he was intending to betray the group and Araki decided against that at the final hour due to some personal matters of his own during that time. But instead of keeping him loyal, he just preferred taking him out of the equation outright and I've heard a lot of speculation that his stand power was a part of it. Like I said, his power is obscene, but makes a lot more sense when it's in the hands of a villain. Robin and Law fall into that same bucket.

Here's a fun new challenge, create a new One Piece arc that is AS CONGRUENT with canon as possible.
I actually had a dream that there was a short arc right after Egghead, where the Straw Hats had to fight against a modern submarine out at sea. Said sub was built during the Void Century, and just kept in reserve up until everything got revealed, and the WG decided to just send it after Luffy & co. as a hail mary play to take them out.
Whether this is congruent with canon or not, you be the judge

I’d say it’s too early to do something like that. You need to find a way to keep Luffy from learning of the significance, and I really think it’ll take a while before Luffy himself is a specific target that needs to be taken out, rather than just him being a nuisance because of his actions and powers.

it says a lot really that Imu keeps tabs on Luffy and Blackbeard, knows everything about them and doesn’t really give a fuck. It’s honestly a nice change of pace having the big bad not care.

i like the idea of something from the void century surviving without imu or anyone else realizing only for luffy to run into it on accident and have to fight it because it senses nika inside luffy or it hears he has a D in his name only for it to vanish or fall apart randomly for reasons we dont learn about till more is revealed. kinda like skypiea and that whole mess.

speaking of kuma i always found it interesting how kuma sent franky to one of vegapunks labs. given what we know about the relationship between kuma and vegapunk it makes me wonder if kuma was hoping vegapunk would have showed up and upgraded franky into something similar to himself so franky could help more given how he sent everyone to places where they could get stronger.

My guess is that even the old, outdated research of Vegapunk was considered futuristic by the standards of anyone outside the SSG. Kuma knew enough about Vegapunk to know that sending Franky there was a safe bet.

I'm going to be honest, the immortality thing being countered with haki just like everything else kind of ruins it. At first I though it was a clever way to stop the power creep issues inherent with all Shonen anime, the villians aren't more powerful than the hero they simply can't die rendering the hero's power meaningless is an interesting twist especially in a series where the protagonist is a literal god at this point. I really hope there is more to Gaban being able to halt their regeneration.

I’m willing to bet we get some more stuff later on. Honestly, I’m more wondering if Luffy is actually going to throw hands with the God’s Knights, let alone learn about their immortality. Even then, I don’t think immortality will be that big of a factor since killing isn’t the real aspect of defeating a villain as much as having them be forced to see all they built and dreamed of fall apart in front of them.

I'm standing by my assumption that their immortality and summoning is tied to Conquerer's Haki, with that being part of how to trump their immunities or banihs them in some cases. Which while still meaning some people get an easy in to defeating them doesn't make it an utter cake walk.

im with you in that their immortality has something to do with the summoning and maybe haki from someone else gives them a power boost of sorts. so disrupting that haki is what makes them vulnerable again like how imu got effected by joyboys haki left inside emeth.

though it would be nice if the way to damaging them is not something limited to only luffy or zoro or anyone super skilled with haki. like maybe they are only immortal in their normal forms but if they awaken their fruit they can be damaged or something.
I want Brooks awakened devil fruit to turn him into a Necromancer.
he is already kind of a necromancer with how he can control souls. i think brooks awakened ability should either be something that gives him powers similar to big mom or maybe something that allows him to absorb souls to make himself stronger which results in him getting his skin back.

Criticizing sanji for the character he wants him to be. Double standards for sanji, but other things get a pass from characters.
More fanfiction-tier Turing of what he wants in the story instead of what we’re probably leading to that’s gonna be disappointing.
Criticizing Vander decken for being creepy. Lol, of course. He’s a male, root of all evil. We don’t need it in series ever.

Every time I see this guy and his thumbnails, I get the feeling he’s gonna have a massive meltdown if the theories he posts never comes to pass.
