I mean, they are not 1:1. Yes, the 3rd in command is in both cases a womaniser BUT, in the case of the Roger Pirates, nearly all men were womanisers. Rayleigh and Oden were both popular with women and, to an extend, so was Roger. There are similarities but there differences as well.

You are ignoring the fact that Shiki was antagonistic towards the Roger Pirates till the bitter end. He would shoot Crocus before he had a drink with him should he reject his offer.
He also held a great respect for Roger, and these animosities are decades old at this point. I can see him and a member of Roger's crew sharing a drink, like how Whitebeard and Roger were rivals but also friends too. Or how Garp and Roger had a mutual respect for each other.
For some reason I'm reminded of this fic I spotted ages ago where Luffy becomes a Marine, his goal to become an Admiral. Rather than do anything unique, the author just has the exact same events of the story play out. Just replace "I wanna be King of the Pirates!" with "I wanna be an Admiral!" and that's the story.Yeah pretty much. I’m a bit of a sucker for these “tell the story my way” type of stories, if only because it’s taking things into your own hands instead of waiting for Oda to get to certain things eventually.
How would impel down and marineford work? I could see Marineford working with Ace being a marine too and captured by Whitebeard to be executed. Robin would definitely not be a crew member unless they actively hid her identity. It's an interesting thought experiment but eventually the story would need to be changed a lot.
What i find interesting is how most What Ifs don't go beyond Marineford for some reason.
Marineford is too big and too foundational to the story for a fan fic to broach. It’s basically the climax of the first half of the series, and to change it would require rewriting the entire thing from scratch.
You could always start from when Luffy finished his timeskip training.
I only skimmed through it and I don't remember if it even got that far yet. What I do remember is I deliberately went to Enies Lobby to see how it might change, and...it didn't. Same general dialogue and actions. Like it literally is just One Piece except give the Straw Hats Marine uniforms. Luffy even had a special deal that he could choose his unit, naturally just the regular Straw Hats, and had no generic Marine footsoldiers or anything.
I’d call that wasted potential, but I’m not sure if there was any potential to begin with.
Honestly, it may be fun to see how far the what if/start at the beginning story goes before the wheels fall off.
