The World Government right now:

As for the World Government not being a threat, the threat they pose is like The Party in 1984: all that matters is keeping absolute control, regardless of what needed to be done in order to make that possible, like suppressing history and destroying an island. Maintaining order is their main drive, and the only reason they’re doing thing like showing the Gorosei having monster forms is because they feel that an agent of chaos has gone on for long enough now that the true power of that agent (Luffy) has been realized.
The threat the world government poses to Luffy is kinda like the threat Lex Luthor poses to Superman. Lex ain't able to beat Superman in a fight, but he sure can fuck up the things Supes cares about. Here, the WG may not be able to defeat Luffy, but at the same time, they can still hurt the people Luffy is trying to protect (e.g. Vegapunk).

I'm calling it now: Bonnie isn't leaving Egghead in one piece.

It’s funny how Whitebeard’s speech mentioned how the one to find the treasure and challenge the world will be one with the weight of history of their shoulders. And Luffy is just some dope with a dream. And a hat.

It’s been basically telegraphed that Luffy will be the one to fulfill the prophecies of legend, but I have to wonder if Luffy will go through this whole story completely aloof and ignorant of the greater history of the world and the conflict.

One piece has gone full funmaxxing

Cope
Seethe
Sneed
Hasn’t the whole series been fun maxing? IIRC, Oda made Gear 5 manifesting as a means of ultimate happiness to contrast with all the shonen super forms manifesting in a form of ultimate anger.

One Piece is different from Dragon Ball and some people just cannot take it.

Truth to this interview? It sounds likes Oda, he just does whatever the fuck he wants.
Haven’t really seen Sandman lie about Oda in his interviews yet.

Also, it tracks with what I’ve heard about Oda before: he just wants to have fun with his passion project, and he wants to make sure things are done his way 100% of the time. And he’s got enough clout that he can probably get away with stuff others in his industry can’t, though I’m not sure if he’s tried to flex that power.

The WG is closer to Darkseid than Lex.

The Gorosei seem to be swinging some heavy lumber in their own right. And we still haven't seen the power level of God's Knights but if they are willing to jump into the mix between the Roger Pirates and the Rocks Pirates, they are probably a serious threat.

Back in the Void Century, the World Government defeated JoyBoy(Nika). We don't know how they did it, but they did. Can they do the same to Luffy(Nika)? Possibly.

IIRC he's also on record saying he needs his editor to be able to keep him in check, and that he's nervous if any of them were fans of the manga before getting hired (which one of them was, one of the more recent ones, I think)

Agreed. I just don't really get what the fuck is up with Bonny's character and why they have suddenly become one of the MOST IMPORTANT characters with clearly the best ability out of nowhere.
I'm just baffled with how "pop, you are a Nika too!". "Believe in yourself and you can also be one of the most obscenely powerful entities in One Piece!" even if it's with a timer.
I wouldn’t say Egghead is bad. If anything, I think it’s not sticking the landing (with the giant looking like the only true disappointment). I think Oda realized that if Vegapunk went on with this broadcast undisputed, it’d lead to his readers connecting the dots and pieces together and figuring out the endgame WAY earlier than he wants them to, so he did a hard pivot and had the cut broadcast pieces to keep the mystery going, and he must have felt it was worth it if it just turned this thing into a rehash of the last speeches of Clover and Whitebeard.
Only thing I know is that Atlas and Lilith can't leave alive since if they do, there's no reason to not get an immediate explanation about the D since I'm assuming they all know what core Vegapunk knows.
Didn't people feel this way about Law?
Pretty much, but Law's fruit is obscene and one of those that is great on villains, but a huge issue in heroes. Same deal as Robin's fruit though she has kind of reconverted to "make big parts and slap things" to not make it feel as savage as when she was breaking spines left and right. But with Law you always have in your back of the head "why isn't he doing the swap personality thing, is it a haki thing? He was able to swap Sanji, so even if that were the case, he has enough clout to fuck with pretty strong guys already" and so on. I'm rereading the manga and noticed that in the middle of Dressrosa, setting up a Room suddenly "required a lot of stamina" and it just comes in as a post arc way to try and keep the power in check.

I will admit that reading everything in one go, Law is a lot less grating than my first rodeo with Dressrosa, but I do think he spent too long as an unofficial Mugi.
Oh hey, Sanji's finally reappeared.

Don't like how obviously copypasted Nika Luffy is.
But when will Sanji get the memo that Bonnie is 12?!

And yeah, the final drawing I swear seemed like a fake, Luffy is copy and pasted and Bonnie just looks so... derivative visually, that whole page has "how to draw your manga" cover energy. Nika Bonnie is just leaving me meh for now, maybe seeing her in action will get the blood boiling

Vegapunk as a whole started very strong but it's kind of not sticking the landing, the Gorosei have really lost an edge as threats and though I like the lore dump, I think it went a couple of chapters too long and could have been condensed better.

@ShitLurker I do think if we get any D explanation, it’ll be in a way where Luffy or anyone will know. Also, wasn’t it said Punk Records will keep growing and growing even after death?

As for the Gorosei, I’m still thinking that this is just teasing their true power and skills. We’ll see the true extent in the grand finale .

i think this is going to be one of those things that looks better in the anime. the gorosei are also still a threat considering none of them have been actually taken out yet at most luffy is able to hurt them but not much.

i do think that revealing every single one of them was a mistake and i would have liked it more if only one or two showed up on egghead as more of a teaser for the rest of them.

i thought that was how it was looking and luffy was going to end up defeating one which would have resulted in the island getting destroyed.

Well the World Government only knows of overkill when it comes to stopping threats to their power, which is what Vegapunk and Gear 5 Luffy are. I’ll stay on the hill that this whole thing with the Gorosei is to show off their powers before the final showdown, especially since we’re looking at going to Elbaf soon, which looks to be a big contender for the next “the never ending arc” and a place where a lot of the bigger machinations will come into play, or even a new giant quest will be formed.

fun reading them flip out over the recent chapter. Somehow i find this less annoying than the power scaling community that effects every shounen but at least these peolpe are honest at being annoyingly cynical.

I wouldn't mind the design but it is too early and Bonney went from getting another in this arc in terms of backstory and characterization to getting too much when i saw she gets a form that is possibly akin to Gear 5 which is still a recent transformation for Luffy and also a pivotal thing for his character.

My assumption is that Bonney will not have access to all the Nika power that Luffy has. Certainly not the Conqueror 's Haki that one can coat their body with so while she will have similar attributes, it will not be the same.

Bonnie is basically imitating Luffy. The longer she observes him, the more powerful she should become.

If I may let the comic book nerd in me come out for just a second . .

All the gear forms, and especially gear 5, take a heavy physical toll on Luffy. He's only able to maintain gear 5 for a short period of time before needing to eat. It is unknown if Bonnie has the same limitation. Bonnie is seemingly able to maintain her future forms indefinitely, as evidenced by the fact that she runs around in her 20-something year old form. That said, she is called "The Glutton" so maybe she needs to eat to maintain her form. But the possibility exists that with her years of experience holding future forms for long periods of time, she may be able to hold her Nika form longer than Luffy.
