i could be missing something but i am almost entirely sure everything left to cover should end up getting covered on the way to laugh tale. elbaf should be the next island and i expect that to be a very big lore/power up spot then laugh tale should be where the strawhats fight the blackbeard pirates which ends up leading into the final battle against imu. i just hope that whatever oda ends up rushing past ends up getting covered more in the anime.

In terms of what needs to be done for sure, we’ve got:

-Zoro vs Mihawk for the title of world’s greatest swordsman (and hopefully we get to see Mihawk actually do some cool shit instead of coasting by on reputation and dismissing fights against lesser opponents)

-Luffy returning Shanks’s hat

-I’m not sure how Blackbeard fares into it, but we should some payoff over Whitebeard saying that Blackbeard isn’t the man Roger is waiting for, while Luffy….is.

-Also, pirate with eyepatch.

And because it’s been on my mind, was it ever said by Oda that the story will end once the treasure has been found, or that finding the treasure will kick off the grand finale war that’s said to be Marineford on steroids, including any LOTR style epilogues? I’m not sure if Oda addressed that, and I can believe either of these scenarios at this point.

Honestly, I think that could just happen considering that the Straw Hats are about to leave Egghead and a check on the other players seems to be par for the course of One Piece, since those chapters are mostly about reacting to Luffy and his antics. It shouldn’t take too long though.

Meanwhile, the series is leaning heavily into the Luffy as the reincarnation aspect, down to having Joy Boy in Vegapunk’s story looking like Luffy in Gear 5.

I don't mean a swap to another characters perspective I mean the straw hats changing direction entirely. Or possibly another split up.

Luffy said he wanted to stab his eye but missed. I am guessing Joy Boy 's eyepatch will be on his left eye since that is where Luffy has the scar.

We already have confirmation Joy Boy wasn't Nika because Nika is a mythological god from Elbaf. Zoan Fruits (all of them, really, but Zoans in particular) give the user characteristics of the Fruit's essence regardless of individual looks. Nika has wild flaming hair, is crazy flexible (rubbery), and laughs. Therefore, Joy Boy took on those characteristics when he awakened the Fruit, and so has Luffy.

Now the Devil Fruit origins is tied with the Void Century, so maybe Joy Boy was the basis for Nika, but Vegapunk said Nika is an Elbaf god, and Giants keep to tradition. Slaves also knew of Nika possibly due to stories passed down from the Void Century/given to them by the Giants/Buccaneers. Therefore, I'm not buying the reincarnation angle because the Will of "D" has something to do with it.

To bring more credence to this i believe that is how mythical zoan/devil fruit work as they are powers descended from gods more or less. DF are still something that needs a little explanation as recently Vegepunk did confirmed they correlate with the user's dreams and desires. My little thoery (not anything seriously) is that the powers from before DF manifested in this same way as maybe Joy Boy desired ultimate freedom.

this can also explain the Gum Gum fruit being based on the Sun God Nika. Also why it was renamed since we also know that Joy Boy is a critical piece of the Void Century.

We know that strong enough Willpower can have physical effects on the world around you, what if enough collective desire can manifest a Devil Fruit.
