I'm trying to understand the insanity of the western fanbase. Why do people hate the "Kurozuni are born to burn line?" For the last 5 years, we witnessed the evil of Orochi subjugated Wano, enhanced the corruption, killed innocent people who weren't involved, brought in an Emperor to keep his reign and experimented on Wano with the Smile fruits.

Apparently it has something to do with that wretched “Oden is Boiled” pun everyone loves shoving up everyone’s mouths.

Some people were saying Hiyori supports genocide :story:

I was harsh with the chapter, but one big build up thing I was satisfied with is there being no new Straw Hats in the main cast. The whole time people were speculating who will join... Yamato, Carrot, Momonoskue, etc... and I just thought the crew was already fine and we're too late in the game for it. Assuming we don't get a surprise member in the next few chapters I think Jimbe should be the last and he needed a lot of build-up compared to the earlier members, something no one else closes to matches from the canidaes.
Pretty much this. Especially because Jinbe’s entrance into the Wano arc, and subsequently the Straw Hats officially being all together in one place, was presented. The build up of Luffy treating him as the missing piece right before the raid, the general framing of his arrival, the little speech Jinbe gives, the artillery fight and delayed toast, all seem to designed to the reunion feel rather final. The pattern on Jinbe’s outfit is even an inverted version of the one he was wearing when Luffy first met him, which further reenforces his placement as a bookend.

The main thing that I think held this moment back though is the general editing/framing issue that is prevalent in most of Wano. After holding off on having an official toast for Jinbe, the actual post-raid party & toast ends up not feeling like a real pay off for that. Jinbe last being shown alone in the banquet hall is effective as an establishing scene, but also undercuts the party being used as his welcome to the crew. The big spread being used for the toast with Luffy includes many of the major players in the arc, but the Straw Hats in particular are all shown in separate panels to accomplish this and they end up not coming across as being a United crew compared to most of the other party scenes. And Robin isn’t present at all the shave down on time instead of her finding Wano lore being a separate scene, but it means she lacks presence at the party altogether.

While it’s possible that this was meant to pay off later down the line, for now it just comes across like the scene was robbed of some of its emotional catharsis in an attempt at more efficient storytelling.

While I don’t think the scene is nearly as bad as people are making it out to be, especially given how much of that line is lost in translation, it did feel like kind of a weird note to end the arc on. Feels like it would‘ve been better suited as being juxtaposed with Luffy’s final blow on Kaido and Momo saving the samurai by finally making flame clouds. Especially considering how Wano’s closed borders have been used as a metaphor for ignorance, with the reveal of Old Wano further showing how the borders made the people literally and figuratively more insular, does give this ending scene showing a dramatized retelling of the events a bit of an accidental “we learned nothing” subtext.

Although even then I think readers put way more emphasis on the Kurozumi family persecution than the writing does. The history of the Kurozumi family isn’t even mentioned until about halfway through the Oden flashback. And there old lady Higurashi only mentions that the previous shogun took their titles and wealth, and that their family became a laughing stock - no mention of the extended family facing violence anywhere - and the Orochi‘s initial conclusion is that Sukiyaki is the real criminal because without him being born Orochi would’ve been rich and powerful. He didn‘t even seem to know what his grandfather did during the Higurashi scene, which doesn’t really line up with Orochi later saying he was being chased around by vigilantes hunting down the family of the daimyo killer.

After that, the only times the Kurozumi facing persecution is brought up is when Orochi is manipulating others: when he tricks Oden into doing a 5 year apology dance, when he’s bragging about how Kanjuro’s family being murdered made him a perfect tool for Orochi’s plans, and when he’s convincing Kanjuro that creating a fire demon will give his life meaning as a real Kurozumi… which is also the whole reason he ended up being set on fire that Hiyori line is referencing. If anything it paints Orochi even more like a hypocritical, opportunistic asshole who doesn‘t actually give a fuck about his family being wronged outside of the parts he can exploit.

FFS, Orochi put Wano in a drug trade via Smile Fruits.
Yes. Because the people of Wano hunted his entire family for sport.
Have they learnt that’s wrong? No. They killed the last of them and celebrated. If you set up an obvious problem that caused all the issues, standard fair says you address it. There’s a reason Tama being Orochi’s child was a theory people hoped would be true.
Overall, I actually am kind of meh on Wano as a whole... people who are saying it's a top arc are coping or taken in by recency bias. Not bad, it's One Piece afterall... but in comparison to other arcs, even ones looked on less favorably as a whole, it feels more contrived and less exciting despite the theoretical stakes... Doflamingo felt 10x more threatening than the entire Beast Pirates to me for example. Comparing it to Water 7/Enies Lobby or Marineford (which Oda's staff hyped it as bigger than, lol) is just utter insanity, it's not even in the same weight class. Glad we're done with it, hopefully the pieces start coming together now and the hype of 20+ years is payed off correctly.
Doffy was 10x better than Kaido and The Beasts. He was actively doing things and his desire to screw the country only happened because the SH screwed things up. Kaido was literally waiting round. And yes it makes sense as to why he was but my word it makes him dull. Kaido should have been actively tracking down SH to break a captured Luffy to actively try and trigger JoyBoy. Or trying to unearth Pluton or both.

I am more scared for Wano now that Kaido is gone than I was while he ruled.

Considering the hype for 10+ years underperformed amazingly, I have my doubts now to say the leadt.

Which adds to the fact that Orochi's vengeance is petty and stupid. It was all about Orochi's lust for power. Even after Oden's 5 year apology dance, it wasn't enough.
Tama's parents were killed due to Orochi and Kaidou

Twas truly excellent. The resolution to the actual arc’ inciting issue implied by a blink and you’ll miss it moment maybe.

That’s the kind of thing that should have got a dramatic reveal after things were over. It’s the kind if thing you see Tama tell or show Momo early on only for him to drop it on us straight after he’s Shogon as part of a plan to demonstrate the country can move beyond that.

That’s the scene that you use Momo’s Ame No Hibikiri for and make his big scene.
Tama's parents were killed due to Orochi and Kaidou
That’s what they said. But you’ll forgive people for believing in an arc where literally everyone is faking identities that that wasn’t the whole truth. Especially when it would make for big play dramatic drama. And Wano was all about that.

  • Usopp: 500,000,000 Berries

- Buggy is not the leader of Cross Guild, he is one of the new emperors by a mistake of the Navy.

- Buggy owes a huge debt to someone.

- Mihawk was known in the past as "Marine Hunter"

- More bounties are revealed.

  • Mihawk: 3,590,000,000 Berries

  • Crocodile: 1,965,000,000 Berries.
- At the end of the chapter, the Revolutionary Army receives a call...

"It's me, Sabo!!"

From Scotchinformer-

- Crocodile was the founder of Cross Guild. Mihawk received an invitation to join and he accepted it and since Buggy's face was in the middle, the marines thought that Buggy is the leader of the guild

BREAK NEXT WEEK

Even after becoming the Doctor of an Emperor, the Navy STILL can’t be bothered to think of Chopper as any Danger.

Such bull shit.

I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO BUGGY IS AN EMPEROR BECAUSE THE NAVY ARE RETARDS.

To be frank, Buggy was a member of Roger's crew, and despite his comic-relief type cowardice, that fact still made him special compared to others. I still had some respect for Buggy that instead of capitalizing that fact of him being Roger and Shanks crewmate, back in Marineford, he hated it instead when the Marines revealed it to the world

Also, poor Chopper. And I also just realized as well that Jinbei's bounty surpassed Sanji and made him number four in the crew. There's going to be some joke about it, isn't it?

and yet somehow they have been ruling the world and keeping everyone in the dark for 800 years. I can only assume the people of the OP World are stupid
Shit fell apart pretty quickly after Gol found Laugh Tale, and it's not that hard to keep folks in the dark when you just nuke everyone who ever questions the situation.

You’d think people would start questioning what keeps happening to get the nuked island or where the islands go.

I think the WG would honestly have been better if they just did nothing and just waited for people to die. Despite having complete records people irl don’t even remember or know stuff from 10, 20, 30 years ago.
