Checked out movie 6 for the first time.

That’s some fucked up shit.
Baron Omatsuri? Can't remember if that's movie 6 but as default when it comes to the movies and fucked up shit it's that.

That’s the one.
A quite enjoyable change of pace for a One Piece movie, thought the whole thing was executed quite well.

Lily's transformation will stay with me as one of the creepier bits of animation ever done, not just in One Piece. At that point of the film you know everything is awful and it still manages to find a fresh level of "oh fuck no."

Edit - fun aside. Omatsuri's voice actor Akio Ōtsuka aside from doing a metric fuckton of other anime work is also the voice of Blackbeard.

And his real world dad was Gol D. Roger.

I fail to see how Yamato declaring she’ll join means she will. When Luffy’s response the first time she did that was ‘i am not having Oden on my crew’ and the spoilers say she still refers to herself as such. I’d say she is not joining yet.

Then again, I still think we have a lot left to go before we are done with Wano

Agreed, the fact that she is explicitly referring to herself as “Kozuki Oden” feels like there’s still a lot of unresolved baggage there regardless which way that pendulum ends up swinging.

Though slight correction: Luffy doesn’t say he won’t have an Oden on the crew; Yamato says something like “Speaking as Oden, the proper logic dictates that you being Ace’s brother means that I should join you” and Luffy cuts her off to say that it’s fucked up of her to run around LARPing as a nation’s dead hero - especially when there are people who knew and loved the original. So he never actually comments on her wanting to join, and it’s hard to tell what Luffy’s opinion on the matter is between the lack of interactions they have and Luffy giving her a nickname similar to Law or Bartolmeo.

I’m also wondering if Luffy (or Zoro) is even conscious for this. I would hope not just because it’d be rather disappointing, and would diminish the Kaido fight if Oda just hand-waves all those references about it taking a toll on Luffy to just say he’s fine now. I’ve also noticed that Yamato in my re-reads that she’ll tell people she’s joining Luffy when Luffy isn’t around to actually speak for himself, so if that’s the case here as well then I’m sensing a pattern.

I’m more interested in the developments with Momo. Momo giving a whole speech that ends with him declaring that he’ll be the greatest shogun ever just screams “something is about to go wrong.”

Though slight correction:
while that's true I took that to mean 'not joining until you knock that shit off'

Oh yes. Momo has not shown himself to lead yet. So. pretty sure that has to happen. And besides, Momo seems to have a thing going wrong with him…

And there was that earthquake…

Well, so much for Momo looking “Just Like Oden” :story:

At least that stupid, stupid “Buzzed hair with a Top Knot” hairstyle he had as a kid didn’t translate over.

Honestly, Momonosuke is looking pretty badass with this sweet Bishounen hair.

It’s not April 1st, so I doubt this pic I saw on Facebook is a fake

And now begins the momo thirstposting.
Considering how some people who are gonna thirst for aged up Momo are the same one who claim pedo when people draw aged up versions of female characters, I’ll be interested to see the in-fighting/justification.

If Yamato does join, it would hit Luffy’s “I want a ten person crew” wish he had from chapter one.

I got more a vibe closer to the narration we got after the formation of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet (and that reminded me of the narration from the end of Ace & Blackbeard's fight), and it was more of a declaration of "I'm taking back the throne but only together can we fix everything these assholes broke."

You have to admit, he looks pretty damn close. Any bishie aspects of his look can probably be chalked up to his mother's half of the gene pool (a la Hiyori).

Also is it weird that I liked this chapter more than the previous one? Considering this one was mainly emotion and exposition, maybe I'm just burned out on the action (because it dragged on too long)

Reminder Momonosuke is still an eight-year-old, mentally. Thirsting over him is illegal. Thanks, Oda. :story:

Hey, does anyone have that picture of the first preview of Wano that had two new characters on them that everyone was theorizing about? I wanna do some cross-checking.

EDIT: Got it.

Did we ever find out who those two ever were?

The chick is named Kiku and the guy is Lark. They were characters from a special One Piece event in Kyoto back in 2017 where people would go around the city and collect stamps of the Straw Hats to bring back to City Hall, for which you'd get their wanted posters, a Berry note, and a link to a congratulatory message from Oda.

The full story featuring these two is here.

Yeah, the initial spoilers mistakenly reported that Momo was the one making the declaration about being the greatest shogun. Though makes a lot more sense, Momo isn’t confident enough for that.

I still wonder if this is leading to Momo dealing with some sort of crisis in the near future, especially considering his stated intent to keep Wano closed, however temporarily, and basically return to the status quo from 40 years prior. A major point in the Oden flashback is that Wano’s keeps out not only enemies, but allies as well. Oden didn’t get news about Wano being in crisis when he was out at sea, Wano gets no news at all, his retainers and father in Wano couldn’t contact him, and Wano had no outside contacts to reach out to when Kaido arrived. If Momo’s intends to keep Wano closed, would that also mean cutting ties with most of the alliance that helped him get to this point when they all inevitably leave? Or would this be a half-assed sort of closed where Momo gets to keep in touch with Luffy while the rest of the nation has to stay isolated?

Hell, what about Yamato? She gave a whole speech about liberating Wano by opening the country and unleashing the samurai upon the world, and that she’d disgrace Oden’s name if she didn’t. Is she really going to be content leaving Wano that way, thus proving Kaido right when he said she‘d never open Wano, just because at least she might still get a chance to leave?

Like I said, considering the importance of taking risks is a major theme of Wano, Momo’s choice feels a little against the grain.

Agreed, this chapter flowed a lot better than the last. I think a lot of it was because the last chapter was trying to cover so many topics at once that you got a lot of jumping around, to the point that characters were practically teleporting between scenes. I get the feeling that part of that was possibly because of the page count limit SJ publications adhere to, but it definitely seems like certain scenes are missing. As nice of a moment Hiyori hugging Momo is, it’s undercut by having her hop on his dragon form off screen, and having a scene where the 9 Red Scabbards regroup first would’ve bridged the gap between Kin and Kiku being critically injured to fine.
