So, I have two issues with this:
  • From the storytelling side, it’s always better to have a protagonist who wins through his willpower and determination rather than being granted some ridiculous power up.
  • It makes no sense how the World Government knew about Luffy being the Nika fruit user for a very long time (with Luffy announcing his fruit power at every step) and decided not to do anything until now. People are speculating that they didn’t know that Gomu Gomu no Mi is Nika fruit until Shanks told them about it recently, but the stuff said by Who’s Who earlier in this arc seems to contradict it. He got specifically kicked out of CP-9 and imprisoned for loosing Gomu Gomu no Mi. In comparison, Rob Lucci lost Nico Robin (who’s a huge threat to WG) and he still kept his job. Also reading back on his fight with Jinbei, it seems to be implied he knew about the fruit’s real power. So, the question is, why would WG not make a priority out of stopping Luffy from the very first time they learned about him. They went out of their way to murder infant Ace just because he was Roger’s son. You’d think they would send at least one admiral after a guy who inherited Joyboy’s power.
On the brighter side, it’s still better than some theory’s that were thrown around during last week.

Oda had definitely written himself into a corner with Kaido. Something that seems to happen a lot in manga is an antagonistic force is given a lot of thought in how to make it as oppressive as possible, with less thought given to how the protagonist is going to overcome it in a satisfying way. Oda himself admitted he didn’t have an idea how Luffy was going to get out of this as late as the start of the raid, and you can honestly see the exact moment he figured out what to write.
Some of the lore implications are fun, and it could be turned around to something fun once the chapter proper (and maybe some follow up) comes out.

I wanna join in the spoiler game, too!

Watch Luffy revitalize Elbaf's Yggdrasil tree with his life-giving goop.

Hey, I just realized something.
It's been exactly 500 chapters since that bit in Impel Down where Crocodile mentioned the jailer beasts were awakened Zoans.
That's a funny coincidence.

An interesting fact that’s been overshadowed is that it’s seeming like Kanjuro is nailing the final blow in Orochi. Involving that “Kazenbo” spirit flame that, like all other “Plot C’s” in One Piece, has done diddly squat to be remembered until now.

Is this the real music track??? HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY

It's been pointed out that Luffy's awakened Devil Fruit powers has been foreshadowed as far back as Sabaody with the resin coating which suggests Luffy will be able to coat the Thousand Sunny himself for underwater diving in the future. Oda you fucking genius
I don't want to believe the Nika theory; I think Luffy's fruit has just finally awakened. Doflamingo actually mentioned fruit awakening to Luffy while they fought...he even threaded an entire building to showcase it.
Also Teach has three fruit powers; Yomi, Quake and Inu inu no mi: model Cerberus. The secret is in the Hat.

The five elders literally say that the fruit "is a legend, even to them" meaning the only guy who would even know the true nature of it is Im. The only way they would have JUST NOW realized it is if someone with that kind of knowledge informed them (be it Im or someone else who uncovered some Poneglyphs with that information), plus the sudden appearance of Zunesha heading towards Wano. If anything, they probably tried to capture the gum gum fruit for ages just on suspicion that the legends COULD be true.

Holyshit, Luffy can treat anything like rubber now. Also, the art became more comical because of the new power

I'd still like to see how this ties in to the failure SMILEs that were distributed in Wano.

Also despite this development, Oda didn't go against his intention of making Luffy look ridiculous when fighting. It also calls back the SBS factoid of power being limited by the imagination. I can't tell if this was set up in advance or if he figured out he could connect all of this together.

Mythological Zoan type: Hito Hito No Mi Model: Jim Carrey's The Mask.

Luffy actually having a Looney Tunes style cartoon fruit is somehow both retarded and really fitting. Also makes sense how he can take so much damage, set himself on fire, and take Kaido's blast breath like nothing. Depending how deep Oda runs with it, it's incredibly powerful.

It's basically having reality bending cartoon powers.
