If Shanks and Akainu combined couldn’t take Blackbeard when Blackbeard flat out said he was not ready to fight Shanks then Luffy should have stayed dead when hit by Kaido. Because he stands no chance against Blackbeard now.

Also, I think if anything, the idea is to make it look menacing but then go into Luffy having silly fun.


If the idea was to be demonic, we wouldn't hear Luffy having so much goofy laughing and cartoony sound effects.

Blackbeard is a coward, not "ready" to fight Shanks very likely means "I don't have a 100% chance to win"

That is because the art and animation for Egghead is odd.

I don't want to call it outright bad, but something about it feels off.

A god whose core concept is freeing people from slavery would be very unlikely to enslave somebody.

Luffy doesn't need the power of a God or to be possessed to do that.

Holy hell the dub sure caught up fast. Can't believe FUNimation (rest in piss) continuously put the brakes on the dub that they fell behind like that, but then again, they didn't have that Netflix money or something.

I'll definitely check out the Gear 5 episodes after work, curious how Colleen handled it.
 
Clip I found from Xitter, I'm not a dubfag but I think they did a good job, though I think kaido sounds a bit weird.
Edit: just sent the video forgot xitter is gay.
 
Sobolov's perfomance has generally been mediocre. Doesn't help how similar he makes the character sound to a bunch of other villains. I wish Funi or someone in the guild had looked harder trying to find a new Mako Iwamatsu after hearing all the criticism for the new Aku in SamJack Season 5. Clinkenbeard's still doing great, but she'll probably never stop getting hammered with the same "sounds like a chain smoker" accusations she and Maile Flanagan's Naruto always get. Weird how her best work was probably doing Charlotte in Black Clover.
