Yes, it appears one of the world's most famous and loved tween boy-bands has decided to call it quits, maybe indefinitely, who knows? What does that mean to you or I? Probably not much. But to the girls who have made them a 50 million dollar brand, it probably means quite a bit.

This is all from skimming the #OneDirection tag on Twitter for about 5 minutes, mind you. This all just happened, which means the next few days will be full of teen girl drama and they will be tweeting and tumblring their asses off about it. Let's laugh at the crazy.

PS: Please don't turn this into an argument or discussion about the merits of One Direction's music. There have always been boy bands, their music isn't always great, we get it. Let's laugh at emotional teens freaking out about it, not sperg up this thread.

edit: these are all teenagers so talking about weening in this thread is completely off limits. Post the drama, don't get overtly involved.

I'm amazed to find out this disposable band even still existed.

1D are rubbish even by disposable boyband standards. Here's the real, actual acid test for whether music has any value: covers. Basically what sorts disposable prolefeed from decent music is whether the next generation of artists pick it up and interpret it.

The Monkees were a manufactured boyband, but the music was good. People are still covering Daydream Believer today. Stock Aitken and Waterman produced hit after hit in the 80s for the likes of Kylie Minogue, but the number of modern SAW covers is disproportionately small compared to their original success, because the music was an afterthought (and often cynically ripped off from classical music).

Forty years from now, will anybody be recording new versions of Best Song Ever?

Remember when Rucka Rucka Ali made these parody songs mocking One Direction?

Their response to his obvious parodies:

What is this obsession with killing people you disagree with or offend you?
If someone has been trained since birth to get enraged by everything then once they reach young adulthood they will desire to kill anyone who even vaguely slights them

We should just make a thread for all boyband communities. This kind of fanbase is present for young pop stars in gereral. If we're going to have a thread for one of them, we might as well make a thread encompassing all of them.
