Anyone remember the glory days of internet flash games? Between 1999-2002, Newgrounds hosted some of the edgiest content at that time. My friends and I spent hours playing flash games sponsored by Newgrounds itself and those created by its popular contributors. Most of them have now aged horribly, but they still hold some nostalgic value. Those games were quite raw and full of sound effects/music lifted from other games, but it was fun picking out the sources. Even funner was discovering all those independent musicians from mp3.com (RIP) developers would source their soundtracks from.

Do any of you remember the early days of flash games?

There was some really cool star trek based trading game, I think it was broken mirror. Fun as hell but a few flaws and pretty easy to break.

Generic Zombie Shoota was one of my favorites from that era.

There was also all those Assassin games where you got to kill annoying celebrities and other pop culture figures:

Man, I loved flash games. I'm gonna post more in the evening, but the ones I remember the most were Super Mario 63 (A 2d-Mario 64 remake with a goddamn level-editor) , Stick RPG, Epic Battle Fantasy and Upgrade Complete!.

Final Fantasy Sonic X
Super Mario 63
Super Smash Flash
Stickman fighting games

All of these were MY SHIT

I remember searching far and wide for the bgm to that game in elementary.
Super Smash Flash
Seconded.

A few of my favorites got ported over to console and became classics, like Fancy Pants Man and Super Meat Boy. It’s kinda nice to see the legacy of flash games continue.

I mainly played this one for the music: https://armorgames.com/play/838/hearts

Not really Flash, but Insaniquarium and Fish Tycoon were also my shit.

Cartoon Network Resort, Courage The Cowardly Dog.. can't believe just how many games I played..

Also that gta styled drug dealing game introduced me to porn (:_(
This one?

Oh my fucking god, I just remembered I still have a Newgrounds account!

Here's some games! From Newgrounds or otherwise:
Abobo's Big Adventure is a cool beat-em-up, which references a ton of vidyagames
Dino Run is a platformer where your main objective is to outrun the world-destroying catalyst as a dinosaur
Pizza City is a game where you are supposed to, uh, deliver pizzas! Wacky shit happens while you do so.
Clarence's Big Chance is a neatly designed platformer, where you, a smelly fat loser, tries to woo a girl! It had a cool collectible system.
Seriously, play Super Mario 63, if only for the level creator. Probably my favourite flash game as a kid.
Depict1 is pretty interesting.
Doodle God is neat. You are supposed to match elements to get new ones. Sounds dumb, but it is actually pretty fun.
K. O. L. M is a good metroidvania game.
YOU'RE TEARING ME APART, LISA!
Other that that, there are also Nitrome games. They are pretty much all gold.

Wow, that took me down a trip down memory lane. I feel nostalgic now (:_(

Kaboom!
One of the best suicide bomber sims to this day
