I never played any educational games.

I did play Duke 3D Doom Doom II and Wolf3D in the early 2000's though. Diablo as well.
You missed out. Humongous Entertainment consistently produced bangers:
Yes I know all the words to it. I would play Putt-Putt Saves The Zoo and Freddi Fish regularly along with games like Quake, Doom, and Dungeon Keeper.

A man of true taste. I raise.
I have no choice but to call.

Painfully ingrained memory from the Jumpstart games in the computer lab during elementary school.

Edit: Also the Dogz and Catz games before they became very generic.

Dogz and Catz was literally my introduction to modding in the 90s as a kid. Custom breeds utilizing the game's surprisingly fleshed out system for the pet models and being able to change the size of each body part. There's sites that are STILL up that have downloads for custom breeds. And/or backports of breeds from later games into the older versions.

Whole thing is a nostalgia bomb rabbit hole.

I used fuck around on there a lot reading shit and playing around with the global instrument stuff listening to all the weird different musical instrument from around the world.

windows 3.1 had the wildest edutainment shovelware that has ever existed.

before hard drives were common in school machines i played where in time is carmen sandigo '89 version swapping floppies at the school library. I actually learned stuff and still retain it to this day which is shocking since my short and medium term memory has evaporated. soon i will be free.

I did the same thing, hunting down all the articles with media and playing them over and over. I can still hear some of them in my head years later. The other thing I remember was the trivia maze game with a creepy jester following you around.

I see your Encarta and raise you 1 Dangerous Creatures.

Not sure if this counts as a "kids game", or rather a "kidz game", but I know I played this when I was younger(and only me, nobody else seems to remember it):
It's a puzzle game from Monolith, yes the same one who made Blood and FEAR. These guys used to make all sorts of crazy games, like Claw or Shogo in the early days.
This game has a particularly funny memory for me since it might be a catalyst for my first instance of trolling and gaslighting. Back then, not everyone had computers, let alone the internet, so as kids we would visit each other and swap games or let each other play on our consoles or computers. I was the only one I know who had "Gruntz", and from the looks of it, pretty much nobody else has heard of it since, it is still a very unknown game. Well, when others came over and played it or watched me play, I would just make up all sorts of shit about what's in the game. If you look at the gameplay, the game has a really whacky sense of humor, so it was actually believable, no matter what crazy thing I thought up of. From random pop culture references I knew weren't there to crazy borderline adult humor or the various hidden levels that obviously weren't there, I like to think I sold the lie well enough since I stayed within what the first few levels would show you, which is usually as far as the kids went when they were over. I also lied about some basic things I knew they wouldn't look up, like that this game was from a Euro studio and was really big back there, it was just us uneducated Americans that didn't like Gruntz. Hence, why nobody knew about it other than me. I liked messing with other kids like this so much that this lead to other pranks IRL, and later internet trolling. Then, several decades later, I end up here. Funny how that works.
This might be the earliest instance of trolling in my life I remember, like I said, unless you count all the schoolyard rumors kids made up for Pokemon games for the Gameboy(which I obviously participated in, altho I don't remember any in particular).

FWIW if you enjoy TempleOS aesthetic edutainment made for windows 3.x and digging through old software the exodos project also makes eXoWin3x. The old version of it if you can find it (v1) runs on XP. Has all the win3.x era games too but much of it is educational or just plain odd.
