I blame the players just as muchas I blame the admins!
There's less people who play for the player interaction/dicking around and more about doing shitty jobs in solitude.
Before if you were a dick and annoyed people, you would get beaten up till you stopped. Now you get 3 autists ahelping that you are "disruptive" and an admin eager to slap a 7 day ban for "breaking the rules".
Games aresnoozefests of people doing their job for 4hrs AND ENJOYING IT. SS13 is not about making conflicts and dealing with antagonists, it's about sitting in front of consoles to do dumbed down minigames.
A lot of servers removed antagonists altogether or made them so piss weak, they get dealt with in the firs 10 mins. Some guy is being an asshole for 5 mins and admins have not banned him yet? That's definitely an antagonist.
A lot of powergamy system got nerfed or completely removed cause people complained. You can't have kudzu or killer tomatoes do anything. People complain that they can't do their console jobs if there's antagonists doing anything. Even begging medics for healing can give you mean stares.
People forget what SS13 was ever about. It was about antagonists, not about stuffing your face in a comsole and doing minigames that are shittier than Amongus...

Well, Goon had the whole "NATZEES!" in 2016 though.... The Trump election really broke people.
It "did" bring in people who thought the game should be played a certain way. That's not unique to Sseth though
Baystastion is a great example of this. It's run by a bunch of hoity-toity Bongfags who act like Britain still matters and run it like a god damned parliament (Nothing gets done). FFS, they voted in a headmin who hadn't played in 5 years before.
I distinctly remember people leading the GPL mob to DMCA, sue, and then try to ruin the lives of people not being GPL compliant all so they could steal and port features. It's a fucking game.

Yeah, that's kind of why I feel like the social hemisphere of SS13 started changing for the worst much earlier than just 2 years ago. Goon started cracking down harder, and that seemed to lead to /tg/ starting to tighten up its rules, not to mention Hippie dying out and all these other servers popping up, and the "fresh intercommunity drama on a monthly basis" trend started happening around that time as well.

I seem to remember 2012 Goon being pretty good. The thing that plague the HRP (even MRP) communities are meta-cliques that form. That and underaged people in the 18+ servers (not an issue unique to SS13 though, I think a lot of the ERP forums/communities would have that issue but I never joined any). I hate this new ideological world, I just wanted to have fun and than get murdered violently by a changeling or something.
Remember when the lore had the third soviet union and muh fourth Reich in it for laughs? I remember when the latter got removed for being "insensitive".
I hear some of the unlisted servers are still great, but I don't know many of them. Lifeweb's the only one that comes to mind and I just remember that whole child rape ERP incident, and VORE comes to mind since they might be degens, but they at least to my knowledge don't go dramawhore the rest of the community.

It's not as good as you think it is simply because it's less "developed". The dev did a really good job tying lore and gameplay together, but it's not as "feature" rich like tg/goon/bay. The only thing separating most of those servers is the admin direction though (goon is an exception), it's a great change of pace when the GPL mafia comes and tries to rape your ass for a fucking free game.

The antagonists are there to make things more interesting. Not ruin the game for everyone, but make it more "EXCITING."
The best matches are when things go sideways, and shit happens.
Getting turned into a vampire thrall and fighting sec to distract from the "MASTERS." plans
Being miner antag, emaging fellow miner and giving him a ton of explosives to distract everyone so i could do my task.
Trying to covertly take over the ship by hacking the AI and killing the captain.
Having to replace everyone's ass because they were blown off by a wizard.
The fun is your normal job plus DUMB SHIT!.
Removing and limiting antags makes things BORING, which is why I lost interest. Too many dull matches.

The staff are suggesting moving to Hippie. Now I've played very few servers myself and only vg and merchant weren't complete ass, so what's Hippie like?
Actually scratch that question, I looked at the rules for Hippie and I think I'll give it a shot ("tajarans are valid" is my barometer for whether a server's going to be shit or not)

There is a new "Hippie" that was run by the parts of the admin team after they pushed out the host and he DFE'd his stuff (I think there was groomin/ SA allegations thrown out too). I'm not to clear on the drama but basically he got forced out for wrongthink iirc.

Admiral hippie offed himself after multiple failed attempts previously. The current individuals running the show seem to be both based and have a far better grasp of things then when a woman was the host. Having played a few rounds, its pretty good when the population spins up and the server should properly relaunch on the hub soonish.
Also its funny to see the thread on reddit about josh, naturally, a goonstation admin is the one doing it for free.
Every time I wonder why reddit is so overwhelmingly liberal I am immediately reminded why seeing these obese mouthbreathers who "safeguard" every reddit against the horrors of the most moderate opinions on the internet.

I heard on the grape vine that Admiral Hippie actually trooned out, which wouldn't be surprising at all since it was foreshadowed a shit ton on his twitter before he deleted it.

The Goon of a decade ago makes the Goon of now look like comparing a $30 steak dinner to a $2 Burger King hamburger.
The "Solarium" ARG - one of the biggest draws for hardcore Goon players - is basically dead in the water with Cogwerks about the only one moving it forward at all, and that at a snail's pace. He's also been reduced to e-begging so he didn't freeze to death. Judging from several Discord conversations the dude honestly needs an enforced "touch-grass and get your shit in order" break from coding.
Perfectly good Adventure Zone maps are being yeeted for no reason.
Some legend got official permission to use System Shock 2 assets in Goon and Cog blew him off because "meh doesn't fit with our style".
Trying to submit even the most basic new content gets more scrutiny than sending in my yearly taxes, which has driven away several budding contributors. End result: nothing new in the code besides antag items and the odd lame gimmick for years.
Oh yeah and the source code was leaked at least twice in recent history because of security fuckups.

Null's server I don't think so. Lot more players in general today but it's not as "good"* as the glory days of getting your shit beat in because you had flasher while screaming shitcurity and nigger everywhere.
It's all drama with copious child grooming, Muh WRONGTHING and GPL violations lawsuit faggotry (Yes, they sued somone because they wanted the features of a codebase) these days.
*Just look at the old goon page for the pubby tears and banned camp
Noahgoldfox (who has a thread here) and Android Data (Not on farms) were some decent cows. Original Bay host (Narcisstic tard), Yithlani (Hosted server on his work at a britbong school server, tried to swat someone, then hacked somes computer to dox them), Hippie were some other hilarious retards.
Noah got the speedrun 100% permaban on all the major servers and ERP (Erotic Roleplay) servers I think.
