It’s actually rather interesting as it might have revealed an uglier side of the guy that up until now seemed utterly untarnishable. He claims to respect the game a lot and owes much to it, and even states that he didn’t want to change too much - but despite all that grandstanding he still did it anyway, changing the track to literally just be ‘Hey don’t forget about me! It’s me! Me, I am here! I made this song!’ As if he couldn’t stand not being the center of attention for once and had to hijack a pivotal track in the game and turn it into a cover to remind people of his more popular one.

That and the other reference shoehorned in just comes off as egotistical and kinda arrogant especially since tobys first reaction to the bscklash was to say he did it for free (how gracious) and then kinda fucks off. I know the dev claims that they weren’t pressured either, but let’s be real - the guy just naturally exudes influence over the team and if he really means what he says then why even do it in the first place? Cuz they sure as hell aren’t going to say no.

Afterall, if you get Toby Fox to compose your entire game, are you really going to tell him what to do? If the soundtrack really has the "starts quirky but gets darker as the game ends" rule (that UT fans keep using as shield without getting it's not how OFF works) then you know it was Toby's idea.
I can sorta understand the idea because I imagine many see the Guardians appear in ascending evil order. Dedan is mostly just an ass, Japhet was a benevolent leader driven mad, then Enoch runs a factory which turns his workers into sugar. At the same time, while I guess the game doesn't directly present the Batter's goals until the end, it doesn't hide them either considering you can pretty much immediately go back to any zone you completed and tell that purification is more like erasure.

That reaction is pretty poor. Not sure why him doing it for free protects him from criticism, sure doesn't work for jannies. Not sure what he was thinking, maybe we plebs just don't understand how the great Mr. Fox turning his inspiration into a tribute is super respectful or something. The comments in the remake video clearly seem to take his side, though maybe that's because the uploader was pruning comments.

Speaking of False Orchestra, I've heard the theory that Dedan's and Japhet's theme names were swapped, because Dedan's moves refer to a clock and Minuit A Fond La Caisse translates to "Midnight at Full Speed". Pretty interesting if so, since the current names still fit IMO.

Watched a video playthrough to check the new things. The writing feels worse, Toby replaced the not-Bonetrousle music for Dedan for a more generic one (in fact, most of the music is bland), the new bosses are unrelated to the story and you get a wallpaper for your game screen for beating them (aka useless), and the "load someone else's save" gimmick of the OG game is gone for the final segment.
The new bosses seem to represent concepts like life, death, justice and so on, and are called the zodiacs. They don't seem to fit much in the story, if at all.

Verdict: Play the original game instead.

Which is what I expected.

I'll see if i pirate this tomorrow and play, i didnt play OFF in years like i said but i expect an notably different vibe due to Toby fox soundtrack that will be impossible to ignore.
