So apparently offending a trans individual is a bigger deal than protecting free speech in New York City. I'd love to know the opinions kiwis have about this.
I know NYC has done some stupid shit but this is too much in my opinion. This just makes trans people look even more like whiney babies that can't just live their life without being coddled. It's a shame since I want to support the "truscum" that want to transition and be done with it, but the movement has become so ridiculous.

(This is my first thread so sorry if it sucks.)

Yeah..no. This is just another weapon for ranting cis-haters to use against anyone they dislike, by claiming that person deliberately misgendered them. I can foresee this being abused quite frequently..

Aren't these trannies and tranny-lovers just wonderful people?

Hopefully some patriot will take this matter to court and have it struck down.

New York City is losing the Tranny wars? Surprising. Then again they also failed to achieve Occupy Wall Street's original end goal. That movement lost it's way and quickly devolved into shit like this quickly with those "no rape zones" amongst other things.

New York's gone soft. Did the strong New Yorkers have a mass exodus or something?

Employers will no longer hire these "special individuals", due to increased risk of litigation.
Fun fact: New York is an at-will employment state, and has no public policy exceptions. In effect, you can be fired for pretty much any reason at all.
As for evictions? It's as simple as landlords refusing to issue a new lease.

Assuming it is accurately represented in a Breitbart :story: it is flatly unconstitutional and would be thrown out on the first challenge at great cost to the city. It would probably also give rise to a § 1983 violation against the city for violating the rights of anyone prosecuted under it, for deliberately violating their constitutional rights under color of state law.

So they'd end up paying the challenger's attorney fees and costs as well.

This is one of those cases where the old adage "you can't fight City Hall" is bullshit.

I wouldn't even be surprised if they get preemptively sued about this before even trying to enforce it.

this is a joke, right? Please tell me that this is a joke.

It’s not as simple as referring to transmen “he” or transwomen as “she,” either. The legislation makes it clear that if an individual desires, property owners will have to make use of “zhe,” “hir” and any other preferred pronoun.

I know SJWs love to ignore this but what about people with language and learning disabilities or, hell, people who only know English as a second or even third language? People who may have trouble with non-standard pronouns like 'zhe' or any other neo-pronoun? Isn't it ableist fine someone like that if they can't comply with using their employee's bullshit bunself pronoun?

There are so many potential legal and civil rights issues with a bill like this seriously, someone please tell me that this is a joke.

To me its funny how such a small group of people can have such a large impact

Honestly there are at my best guess a few thousands of SJW types out there but here they are forcing new legislation because they're able to effectively lobby their interests.

I wonder how far the general populace will allow this crap to go? How far does white guilt reach? When will folks start pushing back against this stupid re-born PC crap?

Oh yeah, definitely would be hell for people who are ESL...and people with stutters/dyslexia would be absolutely shit out of luck..

How do you even prove something like, "one time at work my boss misgendered me." How? This has so much potential to turn into he-said-she-said back and forths. Especially in the case of ESL users who may or may not be aware of the US legal system and may or may not be able to defend themselves from accusations like this.

Exactly, hence why I was saying earlier this could be so damn easily abused. Especially if the "victim" has other transgender friends coming forth as "witnesses" for false allegations.

And I thought NYC was a shitty place to begin with - this only reaffirms that opinion of mine.

Are there really that many SJWs living there to justify this? I swear to God they are a massive minority.

I say all of this because I swear, last time I checked, save for their major cities, New York, like Pennsylvania, is quite conservative in their views (again, outside of major city limits...), as in they're not really fans of people being coddled like this. At all.

This whole thing really has the potential to just turn into a debate of "Whose human rights are more important?"

No one's rights are more important than anyone else's. Anyone who thinks that their rights are more important than anyone else is an asshole.

Even the stuff about make up and who can and can't wear it in the workplace has a potential to cause shit.

EDIT: Fixed some bbcode fuck ups

On the one hand, the law specifies intentional misgendering. On the other hand, how easy is it to tell if it's intentional, and does a one-time intentional misgendering really warrant a six-figure fine?

What does and doesn't count as intentional misgendering could be an entirely subjective thing. For example, @ActualKiwi and I were talking about people like ESL users who may not be able to use neo-pronouns. This inability to use kit/kits/kitself as a pronoun could be seen as intentional misgendering to some but not others.

Whether or not such things would be reported would depend entirely on how vindictive the "victim" is feeling.
