On one hand, fuck Nintendo. On the other, I’m impressed by how inept they are. They’ve clearly had this idea in the background for years but have been too shit to implement a music streaming service until now. Here’s a four year old video of the Fire Emblem premium arrange. Every time it was uploaded, it was taken down. Reuploaders even started mocking them in the titles.
Every day, Takeshi clocked into his job at Nintendo, scouring the waito piggu internet for Nintendo music because his boss told him that a streaming service was right around the corner. It was his job for the last six months to protect the Fire Emblem premium arrange’s honour. He had already taken down hundreds of reuploads. Then one day, he read the new titles, people claiming that these were not the premium arrange. His boss reassured him that a streaming service was coming soon and then he would be promoted to working on Zelda or some gay dream he had. It was too much. Right there and then in the cubicle, he committed sudoku. Four years later, they have finally released their streaming service.

Stop trying to make this a moral issue. You zoomers need to understand you are either pro censorship or not.

Japan bending to western standards has opened the door into a lot of stupid censorship decisions. It started with stuff like this in the early 2010s and has continued to get worse, to the point where many Nintendo games now don't say "Choose Male or Female" anymore to appeal to western standards. This is what dabbling with censorship does, it never stays small.

I wish I could buy snes soundtracks. Not stream, Buy a fucking physical CD to put on my shelf.
I've got the silent Hill 3 soundtrack that came with the PC copy, but not much else.

On the plus side, the presentation is excellent. Every song has its own unique thumbnail instead of just being the game's box art, most games have curated playlists (like Star Fox 64 having playlists for the game's hardest route, or only boss themes), and many songs have looping versions, which you can't really get with a downloaded OST unless you want to download 30 minute versions of each song. The only significant problem (besides the crippling lack of music) is that they don't show the composers, which is pretty scummy. Not worth paying for, but it's "free", so ehhhh.

Oh, and as I'm typing this, the song I was listening to paused on its own. When I hit play again, it restarted. Good job, Nintendo!

All of these features and more can be accomplished with EasyTAG and VLC. This is bare the minimum and you feeling the need to note them is embarrassing.

So nintendo just announced their own version of Spotify, containing video game music. I know one friend that would subscribe to Nintendo Online for it.
 
i'm curious how they are capturing audio for the non cd-audio games. probably emulation if i had to guess. real hardware capture would be nice but no way the lazy nip fucks would bother.

They likely have and have had all the music on file for years.

You can download most of the tracks currently available on iTunes already. They already sell these tracks if you want.
