By this logic, we should also downplay the PlayStation 2’s achievement in sales because of how fragile early models of the hardware were. People often had to get second or third consoles to replace broken ones.
Nah, I don’t think this is a valid comparison.
Switch is still objectively Nintendo’s best selling console you can play on a TV.
Not arguing that fact, just saying that handheld consoles that are 80% fragile led screen being replaced after being dropped by kids would logically be a noticeable portion of their total sales.

You won this time sissy. Now imma go play kingdom hearts dream drop on my pirated homebrew 3ds.

Winning doesn't get any easier when the opposition is as incompetent as you.

This generation has produced the most sour grapes I've ever seen, it's pathetic how these people feel threatened over a vidya company being successful.

This is completely retarded. It's not the red ring of death. If people were having trouble with the screens, it would have been all over social media. People are buying it because it's popular.

It's like saying the Wii was popular because people were throwing their Wiimotes into their TVs.

I’m not saying there’s some defect with the console, I’m saying that the thing that plays videogames that can fit in a kid’s backpack and costs less than half what the other consoles does and is the go-to pick for younger kids understandably gets damaged by those kids and in turn gets replaced.

Let me be clear I’m not making some console warrior argument or judgement of quality regarding the Switch, I’m just making an observation about the number of units moved.

Is it just me, or does the new Zelda look like it's an asset flip. Even the concept is boring, solving puzzles by opening up the GMod Spawn Menu. It's cool that it's a zelda game that's more puzzled based, Oracle ages did that too.. I feel like the ideal Zelda as the protagonists game would play something more like earlier Harry Potter games were Zelda learns new spells or abilities and puts them to use to solve problems. Something that goes more back to the classic Zelda formula.
Is this the Zelda Cycle?

A not insignificant portion of this has to be replacement consoles for kids. The Switch is probably the most fragile handheld ever developed and I personally know multiple people whose kids are on their third or fourth Switch.
Someone clearly never had a ds lite. I've seen joycons break, but I've never seen an actual switch break.

Talking about how much you love your modded 3DS (which half this thread also has) isn’t doing you any favors in proving how much you totally don’t care about Nintendo.

It seems more durable than DS/3DS with the hinge that broke by looking at it wrong. Also I personally bought a half-dozen 3DSes by the end of its life due to new revisions & cool limited edition consoles...

I mean I’ve never broken the screen on either of mine, but I can reasonably predict what would happen if I dropped it down a flight of stairs or on the concrete at the playground like a child might. Not to powerlevel, but my last wagie job involved hawking the things and with no exaggeration at least a third of sales involved a parent having a conversation with a 7 year old about taking better care of this one.

The console being inexpensive to replace is a valid reason for sales to be higher than other consoles, I guess I’m just pointing out that units sold doesn’t necessarily translate directly to playerbase or market share.

I know the DSlite I bought my sister had its hinge break, but I was exclusively pc gaming during the DS’s lifespan so I dont have much experience to compare it with the Switch. My last handheld was the original GBA which you could bounce off the concrete and continue your game without issue.

Are these goddamn Japs ever gonna release a better version of this glorified smartphone? Watching that fucking Zelda game dip to ten fps despite looking like something I could run on a fucking calculator was embarrassing.

Ace Attorney Investigation Collection reminded me that I still have to play Ghost Trick
Do it. Legit one of the only games I'd call a 10/10.

As for the Direct itself....it was kinda cool actually.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership looked dope, if a bit unpolished. That reminded ME that I still have to play Superstar Saga.

Not into fighting games and even I could see how big of a deal MvC2 being freed was. Why announce it during a Nintendo Direct though, and not at, say, Evo?

Echoes of Wisdom also looked dope, although a lot of my concerns mirror @ShitLurker's

that's about it for things that interested me.

You really should. Bowser’s Inside Story is generally considered the best, but Superstar Saga is also a fan favorite. The 3DS remake is better in some ways and worse in others, so play whatever is most convenient to you.

I’ve seen someone (I think it was Maximillian Dood?) say of course EVO would get excited, but revealing it in a Direct is better for the casual crowd. Fighting game fans are gonna get hyped regardless.

Well, you can look at mine. Despite practically living in my dock, the fan went bad and had to be replaced after 4 years or anything more demanding than Picross would cause it to overheat and shut down.

By "living in my dock" do you mean it was always exposed to the outside? Sounds like a dust or humidity problem. This is why I always put my consoles into plastic boxes.

out of curiosity, did you forget that the Switch (not the Switch Lite) came with a dock that lets it connect to a tv?
