I can't tell if it's because I'm old and have low expectations or because I'm old and immune to hype, but to me 1080p60 is pretty much peak video game. I honestly can't even really tell the difference between 1080 and 4k.
Even with movies I opt for 1080p at the most. A lot of older stuff looks better in 720 and drops off a lot at 1080, despite being "better".

I do enjoy some games at a higher than 1080 resolution but that is pretty rare. Actually it is mostly just Star Citizen (try it out now, they actually have a fun product out... 15 years later). But 60fps is more or less the gold standard for me. Plus most of these shitbag delevopers promised me 1080p at 60fps when the PS3 was still grilling burgers and I still have yet to see it.

It is cozy and laid-back and perfect to chill out to. The complaints about "it puts too much emphasis on multiplayer" are fucking stupid because you don't need to carry or rely on other players, unless you're dead set on finding the rare creatures which can be kind of challenging--you might be on the other side of the map but you can just warp to the player that found them. The only thing I agree with the journoscum on is that the story missions are ridiculously short. It's usually just "go find this creature" and the creature is not far from you so they can be finished in a few minutes or less, and then you have to unlock the next one through other dives. Which isn't that terrible, because I just wanna dive for God's sake!
I love Luminous, but I do agree with the focus on multiplayer complaints. While it is fun exploring, so much of the former titles got lost. The story is practically non-existent, and with that comes the lack of good characters like Jean Eric and Oceana that the second game brought. Daniel is fine, but hardly a good substitute.

A lot of how you interact with the world and creatures is also missing. There is no feeding fish, no swimming alongside them, dolphin training or the aquarium. Items are now just jpegs represented by glowing yellow dots rather than being modeled like previous titles.

The generated worlds are cool in terms of being able to have a unique location every dive, but I feel like it lacks the unique atmosphere built by the previous. Fish can feel a bit out of place and a lot of the sea feel samey (nothing like the lake or arctic yet) from what I have experienced so far. The up-close looks into areas from 2 are also missing, which is sad as that was a fun method for finding small creatures.

My main thoughts on the title are that the core of exploration is very strong, and I enjoy the diver customization, but that is all the game really has. It lacks that extra bit of care, though with 500+ models made now, I have a feeling they could really build off what they got here for an EO4 and make a title that is definitively the best in the series.

Cuz they know that their customers will literally buy anything that has Mario's name on it.
Mario's name isn't on Metroid prime........

Speaking of games with no sales...

It was kirby's birthday like a week or two ago.... and all he got was a shitty news post on the switch news channel saying "oh hey, he still exists, here's his games you can play.. bye!"

I've seen a rumour that the WiiU game Kirby and the Rainbow Curse might be getting a port to Switch. I could see that being a fall release this year.

If I had to guess, it's because Prime 1 Remastered was practice for Prime 4. No idea about the other two games.
Those who played the Prime Trilogy know the games are peerless and are graphical spectacles for the hardware they came out on. But, those who played Prime 2/3 especially know that Retro's art department went ballistic in those games. As much as I want Prime 4, and as much as I know there's no fucking way Nintendo will remaster Prime 2/3 with the same level of polish that they did for Prime 1... I really want to see what could be done with legit remasters.

Skytown, Phaaze, Torvus, and the Sanctuary Fortress would be incredible to see in HD. I'm still impressed by the effort Retro put into Prime's remaster, and I want to see all of the Prime Trilogy treated with such care...

Breath of the Wild might be getting an enhanced version for Switch 2. Not sure how I feel about this, mostly because it casts doubt on the console itself beefing up previous generation titles.

A part of me hopes it'll be like what Xbox did where the project just updates the old game to higher graphics and improved code but your old game purchase is transferrable.

if they can't even do that with the Virtual Console (you STILL had to pay a fee for the game even if you already had it on Wii), they damn sure won't do so here. You WILL buy the game again at a higher price, and you WILL be happy.

I don't know if it looks better at 720p, but there are definitely very, very quickly diminishing returns.

I always shake my head at autists who do stuff like insist on upscaling Playstation 1 games to 4K - exactly which of the ten triangles being rendered wasn't pristine enough at 720p? Do the textures in that 4kb cache finally have sufficient clarity now?

That’d be nice and if they go that way they’re pretty strongly indicating that the Switch 2 is just a Switch so I don’t know that they want to (I still feel a part of the Wii U failure was that it didn’t sound like a new console, and instead a university for Wii stuff).

Of course the real hotness would be to fix the control problems with BotW and TotK both.
