Mate you could have gotten all that for free with a PS3 emulator and the HD collection, it runs MGS3 perfectly. Most importantly, you can bypass the retarded resolution gimps Konami tried to sneakily play off like they couldn't improve. Recently even MGS4 has gotten to a playable state in emulator form, which blows my mind.
Yeah, I actually had the MGS collection on my Wish List... but then I hear about the gimping (and particularly MGS2 apparently has problems on the Switch, and that's legit my favorite of the series) so I start thinking "Wait.... I already own these on PS2, do I really need to buy them again?"

I agree with all of your points. And I even know how to do all that stuff. But I don't anymore... no particular reason.

Life has chapters and all that.

Got the Metal Gear Solid Collection at Best Buy 20 bucks off for Black Friday. Fucker is still downloading lawl.
I got a new microsd card and everything is downloading. Everything fits, no more Sophie's Choice with Dragon's Lair vs. Night Trap. Watching the little progress bars fill up is like the world's easiest rpg, very satisfying.

No, it's not the sd, it's how they implemented it. Basically you choose what to download manually, most of it online despite having a cart, so in theory you could save space, but if you wanted everything like me, it was slow, because there was no download all button

The MGS Collection on Switch is fine in itself besides the very poor packaging where you're forced to download MGS2 & 3 despite getting the cartridge.
And in my case, I bought it as a Japanese download code on Amazon JP at a cheaper price, but the american versions of each game had to be downloaded as DLCs from the in-game menu, thus increasing by another 10GB the total data size of the trilogy (35GB on the microSD once done).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't switch carts go up to 64gbs? What was so hard about shoving that all into one physical cart and calling it a day?

I think the 32gb cart cost something like 20 bucks, compared to the 10 - 15 bucks that a PS or Xbone disc costs, so I'd imagine the 64gb cart digs even more into the profit margins. I'm not even sure any game uses a 64gb cart, I can't find anything about it other than that it exists. There's only a couple games that use the 32gb cart in the first place.

Doesn't MGS2 on the Switch version run at 30fps, when it ran at 60fps on the PS2?

I'm not sure any Switch game has ever come out on a 64GB cart. The contents on cart need to match what's on the eshop, with the caveat of game cartridges that use downloads for more or cartridges that bundle multiple SKUs. If you can find an eshop game over 32GB aside from MK 11 and NBA 22 that would be it,.

Some people were speculating the Arkham Trilogy would be it but that has downloads.

I also doubt the numbers that get tossed around about how much Switch production costs are per cart. I'm sure there's a minimum but you know with big companies everything is very white glove treatment and the costs are always negotiable.

Imagine going back in time 10 years to the people crying about day one updates and telling them that some physical releases would be literally unplayable without a download.

Yes, although it jumps up to 60 in very weird, very quick spots, usually involving hitting loading triggers and any close-up camera angles.

Switch is 30fps unless the game zooms up such as interacting with closets or the transition between levels where it goes back to 60. PS2 wouldn't run at 60 in exterior areas iirc.

Personally, the issue of framerate is of no concern to me unlike the trigger warning that was revealed on gaming articles (I did expect censorship because of this).

I'm just glad I sprung for that 512 gb Samsung Micro SD, like holy shit, I needed that little extra bit of download speed compared to the SanDisk cards

What did the Vita port run at? I'm assuming 30fps, and it felt buttery smooth to me. If Switch at least matches the performance there then it's adequate imo.

Are you noticing a difference?

I've been using a 512GB Sandisk Extreme for better reliability, I don't think there's any real advantage in load time in digital games though since the Switch caps the speed of the sd card slot.

I mean I've only used Samsung so I have no clue, I just assume it goes faster because the speeds are faster on the box. It doesn't lag, that's for sure

The speed on the box is mostly meaningless (for games at least, not if you use it for cameras) because it is sequential speed when games will generally be limited by the random seek/write speeds. Hence why despite SD Cards lagging behind even HDDs on sequential, the higher random of flash storage lets them do a lot better than HDD storage.

Huh. That explains why it feels as quick as my Xbox one X that has a standard HDD. Photos and video must just demand a lot of bandwidth I guess, explains their filesize

Atari 50 set a new standard: the day one patch removed a game from the collection, due to rights issues or something. It's on the physical release, but the patch will prevent you from accessing it. So perhaps we can look forward to the day when offensive content and misinformation can be purged even from physical releases.

That reminds me of when Nintendo replaced Kirbopher in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Even though his voice acting was completely finished and already in the game, they pushed out an update that made it inaccessible. And it wasn't even for legal reasons, they just wanted to spite him.
