I mean I think I'm making a pretty big statement by being tacitly okay with emulation to begin with; because let's be very, very clear about it: 90% of the reasons people use emulation amount to them being lazy and not wanting to spend money on something so they choose to steal it. There are very few altruistic reasons behind any of this, despite everyone claiming to be Aladdin. And then every tenth person is a Ross Scott that has a genuine interest in archival and/or preservation of digital art. By and large it is thieves and high school kids that don't have jobs. I can't knock the high schoolers as much, they're just kids so whatever.

Oh yeah, they're pretty cool.

Watching the emulation scene get curb stomped annually by the corporate video game industry is a little side hobby of mine. I appreciate their work but I also appreciate watching them be reminded that they aren't as great as they think they are. The archivists are cool though, I'm into that.

Here's the part where I tell you that I was too lazy to hook my Wii up so I downloaded Dolphin to replay Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles My Life as a King. Strong recommendation from me. It is a very good game. Consider that one for your next download.

Oh, here's another fun look into the duality of man... I dump most of my console games to ROM files and have been doing so for almost 20 years now. If you like SNES and PS1 games, you probably played some of mine at one point. Yoooooou're welcome! :lit:

Weird shit. But yeah give My Life as a King a try, you might like it. It's a lite city builder with some basic party management shit. You stay home and build a town that can support the needs of your heroes that you send out to complete missions to allow you to build better facilities for them. Fun stuff!

this just reminds me that I want to play a legit Crystal Chronicles game with a theoretical future group of friends one day
I don't even like Final Fantasy, I just think the concept of Crystal Chronicles is extremely interesting and sounds really fun
I don't have anyone to play it with right now, nor do I have the option to shell out hundreds for three more GBAs + a GBA Player + 4 link cables + a Gamecube, but some day before I die I hope I will either have a friend who can or the money to do so myself and then I shall be happy
Is My Life as a King similar at all? It doesn't seem like it from your description, but I'm intrigued since it carries the subtitle

It's similar to the enjoyment I get from watching Chantal or Ralph and the harvest is about as regular. Same goes with the Sonic fandom.

You will not be disappointed whatsoever. My biggest gripe with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is that every release has been needlessly obtuse. The original had the GBA handicap which was a bummer. And then the fucking re-release omitted local co-op which would have made the game into a nice twist on playing Gauntlet Legends with your friends at home.

So I've always been annoyed about that game. But it is really fun if you have all of the equipment to play it as it was intended.

My Life as a King is nothing like FFCC though. It is a single player optimization grind. If you like that, it's great! But you really have to like that.

I still gots my DREAMCAST

Niggas!!!
Bitch please.

I still got the Gamecube. And it was Nintendo's final great console (except for handhelds GBA, DS and 3DS, whcih I also have). Man, there will never be a great decade like the 2000s, ever.

Some of the gameboy games had batteries that have all started to die in the past five years
Speaking from experience, you have two or possibly three routes to take.

Most Game Boy games use the 1616 battery (going from memory here, but it is a common one) so if you get the batteries and the proper bit to open up the games (don't cheap out and use an improper bit you'll fuck those plastic carts up with metal tools) you can simply remove the battery and replace it which will nuke your save file. That's option one and maybe you don't want to lose your saves. I didn't!

So options two and three preserve your saves.

Option two involves performing what amounts to a battery bypass in which you provide power to the cartridge in the form of another battery while you replace the actual bad battery, then put it all back together while maintaining a continuous circuit and you've replaced your battery, saved your files and are essentially qualified to perform heart surgery on living humans.

Option three is more expensive but easier. Grab yourself a tool to connect your cartridge to your computer (if memory serves the retrode has a GameBoy attachment and there are other devices out there) and once you've done that you can pull your save files onto your computer, replace the battery and then move the save files back onto your cartridge. A tool like this also gives you the opportunity to dump your cartridges as ROMs on your computer, giving you honest to goodness legal ROMs.

Let me know if you have an interest in any of this. You can send me a very gay PM through the forum's totally safe and non-hackable private message system.

These methods are also applicable to pretty much any cartridge-based media that uses a battery save.

Regardless of what you think about ROMs and piracy and all of that, there is a lot of opportunity to refine some basic technical skills that may prove useful in your personal and professional lives. I strongly encourage anyone that is able to tinker with their toys to do so. You cannot predict how far it might take you.

With regards to some of my older stuff, things like Pong machines and arcade cabinets will lead you down the road of learning how to solder and desolder and once you've figured out how simple printed circuits actually are and they lose their intimidation factor, the sky is the limit. You can pretty much repair anything around you for pennies.

Throw in some welding skills and the ability to machine and you'll almost be qualified to work on pinball machines. :drink:

I played the demo for that an eternity ago but never ended up buying it. The other day I'd been thinking about it a bit so you bringing it up now is kinda funny.

It doesn't make any logical sense

Dolphin is not that hard to download/install and set-up, it works like every other emulator that's not named RetroArch.
  • Google Dolphin emulator
  • go to dolphin website which is the first result of google
  • download stable build on whatever OS you use
  • click the .exe to run emulator
  • go find the roms for emulator
  • add roms to emulator in the same folder as emulator or make a separate folder for it
  • Enjoy playing
How much of a lazy nigger does one have to be that everything I just listed is far too complicated to the point where you just HAVE to have it in the same library as Steam or else it's an impossible task? RetroArch ALREADY combines (almost) every system on one emulator, why does one need ANOTHER collection to a collection?
They probably wanted it on Steam because of Steam Decks. But installing it on Linux is even easier because you can just install it directly from Flathub and get automatic updates and everything. Or just use Emudeck and it gets set up automatically.

It was recently announced that the final digital event for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is next week. Hard to believe its already been over two years since the game's release, and the final batch of DLC is almost here. Awesome game, one of my favorites on the system.

Back in the day I got a Nintendo Winter 2003 promo booklet from EB Games, and FF Crystal Chronicles was one of the games that it mentioned. I had never played an FF game before, but it caught my attention, and I always wanted to play it, but never got the chance. Still want to check it out at some point.

Pucker your buttholes, boys and girls. If you like Dark Souls, you're in luck! Dark Souls is the Etrian Odyssey of Western RPGs.

You gonna get killed. Also it's really good if you want a pure JRPG and a dungeon crawler. Hoping for a physical release soon.

Beware the FOE.

Oh, we're getting a sequel to the tech demo?, didn't know that. but besides, how many games made or published by Nintendo were shadowdropped in something like a Nintendo Direct at the last minute?, this should be something to be expected if the last time they did this was a remaster they announced in a direct with no marketing at all beyond the direct.

All I have to say about 1-2-Switch is that I was fully planning on buying it off a clearance rack for like $5, but then it just never, ever price dropped, and I have yet to try it.

If I were a normie I'd be shocked that anyone gives enough of a shit about 1-2-Switch to care about posting anything about it, but I know Nintendo loyalists have to shit their pants in some direction every time something's announced.

Shame about the pricing. This'll be one where I wait for a discount before I consider getting it.
