Didn't Metroid Dread do around 3 Mil? That's just .4 from what ARMS did. I don't think it was a complete failure, at least not sales wise. It just didn't blow up to become a new Splatoon.

Yo this looks cool asf
These type of games live and die on player retention theough updates and dlc, not on regular sales.
Splatoon is not only a good seller, but it has an extremely dedicated base that is not small.

Forced motion controls + forced online play = of course everyone's gonna get pummeled by people on button controls who actually know what they're doing

Now that I know button controls are a thing, that might have been one of the worst demos I've ever played. It took me from mild curiosity straight into deciding the game was awful and I never wanted to try it again. I feel like judging a game off of a demo should be enough, considering that's an entire kind of a product designed to sell you on the entire experience, but it just revolted me that much. And the game is like six years old, it didn't sell well, but it's still $60, what the fuck.
I just looked up gameplay for the global testpunch and it had both button and motion controls. What are you talking about?

ARMs has been on the market for 5 more years
Yeah, but its a fighting game, once the community dies sales do too.

Anyways, 3 million for a fighting game is fine. Its not great, but its fine. ARMS was the "off game" for either the Mario Kart team or the Animal Crossing/Splatoon team, so whatever, it let them get stuff out of their system before going back to their main franchise.

I played a while back the demo of Daisenryaku SSB on Switch because I craved a bit for some Advance Wars-like gameplay, and it felt like coming back from the early 00's of shovelware.

Nippon Ichi Software is the first publisher that comes to mind in terms of experimental stuff, and I would easily recommend Yomawari 3 (horror game, doesn't need to play the previous games beforehand) and MAD RAT DEAD (rhythm platformer). I recall Grimgrimoire Oncemore (fantasy 2D RTS) has a planned western release, and it is also published by NIS even if developed by Vanillaware. Pretty sure there is a ongoing big sale of those NIS games on Switch due of the current Golden Week.

among other unusual games on the system, there are Black Bird (shoot em up) and Elechead (puzzle/platform - recorded vid below) which I appreciated as well

The Earth Defense Force franchise fall into that category as well, although with the exception of World Brothers, all the titles on Switch are sadly exclusive to Japan. Which is too bad because the Switch versions of the older entries are the definitive editions, and the online (for 2 & 3) was a lot more populated compared on the Playstation Vita.

How do the EDF games run on Switch?

The first one was pretty decent. How was the second? And... they made a third, right? I think I remember that.
Oh yeah, I probably worded that wrong, the first one is actually one of my favorite RPGs. I just meant as the series went on it got a lot worse. The second one is already a huge drop in quality and the third is beloved by fans but it's way too different and weird.

You act like they haven’t all been good.
None are bad but they set the bar way too high from the beginning and just couldn't reach it again, not even close imo.

To be fair, a lot of that is probably just because I prefer a more traditional JRPG structure and hate gimmicks, so I'm not really trying to shit on the series.

@Calandrino did you play Fast Racing NEO/FastRMX? Those are very good racing games on Switch.
Only FastRMX, it's something I've been meaning to get back to actually. tbh the arcade racing situation on Switch (or even in CY generally) doesn't seem like the greatest... new stuff looks shovelwarey, old stuff doesn't get ported or remade. Maybe there's just no market.

Came close to biting on that but I don't know if the soundtrack is going to grow on me

Why compare porn numbers? Of course Pokemon's numbers would be higher. it's the more popular franchise, it only makes sense. The fact that it exist in the first place is bad enough for both sides (and in the thousands no less).
You're right, only trash series with disgusting fans get po-
mother 3 is wet garbage lmao.png

Tell me boy, were you wearing your varnished heels when you decided to stick your foot in your mouth or did you settle for the poorfag sneaker lmao.

3 million for a fighting game that isn't duty fighter or mortal wokeness is nothing short of astounding, Arms hates are just salty that MinMin got into smash bros over their obscure-ass cereal mascot husbando. It's painfully obvious that Yabuki loves his creation and will push to do more with it once the deluge of MK8 dlc is finished.

New Switch figures have dropped. Hardware has topped 125 million units sold and software has topped 1 billion units sold. This gives us an attach rate of 8, which is crazy. The rate for the PS4/Xbone is around 4.

Switch sales are also starting to seriously decline. They sold about 4 million less than in FY21-22. They also think 15 million for this fiscal year will be a bit of a stretch.

Surely we can find more people to buy Switches. Time to flesh out the Latin American and the Middle Eastern markets. Do we count Chinese Tencent/Switch sales as units sold to people?

It's time to release a Switch 2.

Holiday 2024 is the earliest I expect it to happen.
I would say this Holiday, especially since Nintendo is showing up at Gamescom this year.

Yeah, there really isn't any fucking rush with the lackluster game output of Microsoft and Sony right now IMO.
It's not about the other companies, it's about releasing a machine that isn't an old Nvidia Shield from 10 years ago.

They said no new Switch hardware for FY23-24 in their financial report. I mean, sure, they could be lying but I feel like if they actually do want to fulfill their goal of 15 million new hardware sales for the Switch dropping a new system this holiday is going to torpedo that. Them being at Gamescom is interesting but I don't think that's indicative of a new console drop in the holiday season. They could have some surprise games slated for later this year that they want to show off there. If Gamescom does have them talk about their new system I expect it would be like how Sony was just teasing details about the PS5 long before they fully revealed it.
