Pokemon Infinite Fusion is jank, but it's fun jank. Especially with how indepth the Fusion mechanic is.

Don't mind @Anonitolia, while he makes a good point about pokemon fangames, he is a little too harsh when it comes to his judgement.

Seriously why did they mass produce high quality Luigi figurines with him making that pose of all things. It was years until the much more normal Super Mario line gave him a normal one

In Smash Luigi's gimmick has slowly become how weird he is. The Amiibo figures were based on the character's victory poses and Luigi's was him doing this weird falling planking thing, which became his Smash Amiibo.

I don't even like Pokemon but that last line makes me deeply curious what you mean. Are you saying Team Rocket starts offering a Prime membership that promises things will arrive the next day and then their service goes to shit so that now everything takes a week no matter what, or.... what?

One thing I keep noticing is that unless its a straightforward premise, it feels like Nintendo never really understands what makes their own franchises work. the trajectory Metroid is on reminds me of the rut Zelda was stuck in for a short eternity--part of what made the two NES games fun was the sense of adventure and discovery, and then Nintendo goes on to quash that by designing the games so that they cater to retards and blatantly tell you where everything is (say what you want about Egoraptor's video, he absolutely nailed it when he said "you're not discovering a world, you're being taken on a tour.") Even when they reversed course with Breath of the Wild it was a less than perfect return to form.

Now with Metroid the feeling I get is that they've been pivoting it more towards being an action series with minimal actual exploration because.... frankly, games where you have freedom to explore seem like a concept Nintendo just struggles with.

Then again, "players having freedom" is a thing Nintendo struggles with in general, even outside of gaming.

I mean more “current year big tech company” than Amazon specifically. One late game NPC goes on a multi-paragraph tirade about gender identity and the bigotry of misgendering or something. It has nothing to do with the rest of the story or anything else that’s happening, it just sort of… exists.
Also “fuck” and “shit” are said a few times, but “faggot” is censored. And (minor spoiler) this is a lesser example, but you’re charged for your crimes at the end of the game, including violence toward women… the implication being that violence toward men is fine? I get that one is worse than the other, but it feels weird to outright exclude one.

It was in development for a long time, so I can only assume later dialogue was made with more “modern sensibilities” in mind.

where'd you see that one? I went nuts talking to loads of NPCs after I found their dialogue somewhat interesting on initial check; never saw something like this. Was it added in the update that removed the line about trannies?

It's in the Viridian gym. I finally managed to track down a video, but it's from an old version where the dialogue is much shorter and less preachy; is this what you were talking about?
I dug through a bunch of playthroughs but couldn't find one in the latest version that talks to that specific NPC. I swear I'm not making it up
In the latest version, after he says it once (or maybe after you finish the main game?), it changes to:

ohhh is this during that section near the end where all the grunts "learned better" and started spouting a bunch of sjwspeak? If so then yeah, that area was affected by the dialogue change since some dickweed got offended that a criminal lowlife was using a slur

That’s the one. I’m almost tempted to replay it up to that point to get footage, but it’s basically at the very end of the game. The rest of the grunts’ dialogue was pretty tame, but that one stood out because of how ridiculously long it was.

I plan on getting it day one anyway so I could share my two cents afterwards.
 
Hey, its time for me to review a game again. Remember that time a month ago when I reviewed the Xenoblade 1 Remaster or perhaps a few years back when I wrote a shorter review of Xenoblade 2 along with a bunch of other games? Well, 2 years later its time to finish that off with Xenoblade Chronicles: Torna The Golden Country, a DLC expansion that also got a standalone release in the United States. I certainly loved XB2, so did I love this one too? Ehh, not really, read on to find out more...

So, Torna isn't merely an add-on to 2, its actually a prequel with a "seperate" story and refined gameplay mechanics that incorporate closer character actions that could not be included in the base game due to its rushed development. Part of this refinement is a scale-down, with the much debated gacha system being replaced with each driver having two -and only two- blades, with the blades themselves being able to switch into battle. That leaves you with a party of three being able to switch each character to two alternates, same as the main game. Lacking the gacha blades, you are more restricted in the set-ups you can run. But, thankfully, the devs have taken pity on you and given you direct control of the healer, bypassing the "bullshit Nia AI" issue. There is a downside there though, in the form of combos felling really samey, the same 16 from the base game return but you will likely only see two or three of them regularly. Smaller game, reduced complexity, thats just how it goes.

Speaking of smaller, its time to discuss the plot. Given that this is a prequel to an already existing game, one which already told you the basic plot, plot beats of the story are at risk of just being retreads. And yeah, they are. In a series famous for its ridiculous anime plots, this one just plays itself straight. Thats a shame as Malos is as boring and shitty a villain as ever and Jin is, uhh, also present. Ugh, and the localization continues to do the game no favors. Why they would take an idealized world and insert Scottish "people" into it is beyond me. No, I'm not done being pissed about it.

With the main plot being as threadbare as it is, the game relies on the sidequests to take up most of your time, and I do think that I put easily three times into them as I did the base game. Their system is also slightly reworked and upgraded, with the game having, possibly, the best character dialogue QoL I've ever seen. The much beloved yellow stars return, with upgrades to show quest completion and community progress. Its just a shame that the quests themselves are of so little substance, especially early on, and with no blade quests, well, you have to really want to engage in the world to get your money's worth.

So then, speaking of that.... At launch the game was priced at 30 dollars, which neatly mirrored my 30 hours of gameplay. Five years after release, I purchased the game used for 40 dollars, a pretty good deal as it usually costs 45, and thus did not get a favorable dollar per hour ratio. The overall experience felt stripped back from the main game and was a slightly bitter pill to swallow, given how much I loved 2. Overall I give the game a 1 out of 2 and found it to be a lesser version of its source. Go buy that one instead.

See you in another month or two for Tears of the Kingdom, or perhaps Picross S: Lord of the Nazarack, which I had abandoned a playthrough of to get Xeno in before Zelda.
