I haven't noticed any recurrent framerate problems during my runs of Fire Emblem Engage and Kirby & the Forgotten Land though.
I didn't play FE but there were definite stutter issues on Kirby. Go through the first parade float level again and watch as they pop in and start driving at you from the back. Might get down to single digits for distant objects. Also happened with non-important items like kicked cans in a few places.

For me, SMTV was the biggest offender. It's the only game I have on Switch that I'd rather play on something else. I don't think stable 30 FPS should be much of an ask at this point and I found the way that menus lag to be incredibly irritating. More an indictment of Atlus than the Switch since they could have cut back on graphical fidelity but it still has made me desire beefier hardware for the Switch. The main thing that would interest me in a Switch 2 would be a significant leap in hardware. The chip mentioned in the leak from yesterday was reported to be slightly inferior to the PS4 equivalent, which would be more than enough for me.

The insane attach rate the Switch has makes me hope against all odds that Nintendo might try selling the successor at a bit of a loss just for a bit higher performance, though I know they never will.

Actually yeah, forgot about that one, and ugh the load times on some of the ports I've played...
 
edit: The pitch for Switch 2 is that a lot of the biggest recent releases run poorly on it. Pokemon, Sonic, FE, even Kirby noticeably struggled. And its only going to get worse from here, we're all going to have to wait and watch to see if Zelda is a stuttery mess.
Switch 2 being more powerful isn't going to fix Pokemon and Sonic having incompetent dev teams.
 
It's pretty amazing how Intelligent Systems massively improved on a technical standpoint from Three Houses (which required cooperation with Koei-Tecmo with the Dynasty engine because IS struggled with its first high-definition game) to Engage (which works on Unity and done entirely in-house).
If I recall correctly, IS was not heavily involved with 3 house's development. They merely pitched the concept, were advised on gameplay systems to ensure it felt like Fire Emblem, and did some writing (namely the church route). The bulk of development was done by Koei-Tecmo. The presumed story is that IS worked on Engage and KT made 3H, but due to delays and covid stuff alongside 3 hopes coming up Engage had actually been finished for at least a year (datamined files like the opening video have dates as old as 2021 iirc) but was delayed for marketing purposes to avoid something like 3Houses > Engage > 3Hopes which would be an awkward release order. This is also the presumed reason why Engage's DLC is being released so fast because it was effectively done a long time ago.

So 3H running like dog shit is because of Koei Tecmo, though this is technically IS' first foray into a home console since Radiant Dawn on the Wii, but they've been on handhelds for a long time which might be why Engage's handheld performance is fine because IS has been a portable developer for about a decade straight at this point.

Hell, the original Breath of the Wild struggled to run on the Switch in places, despite being a straight port of the Wii U version. The console was already behind when it launched, and the power issues will only become more pronounced as time goes on. I have to agree with Shokio when he says that the Nintendo Switch feels like the first console that even Nintendo themselves are limited by.

While there is always room for improvement with a Switch's successor, I will also say that someone needs to understand that framerate and graphic quality are eventual concessions to make (in favor for the form factor, portability and battery life) when using a handheld system, regardless it's a Switch or Steam Deck. Sure, the latter allows a higher ceiling (with customizable settings) compared to the former but the limitations do remain the same in theory.

The Steam Deck's limitations are no where near as bad as the Switch's. The Steam Deck is an actually pretty capable piece of hardware, when you get right down to it. The Switch doesn't really match it.
The point was that neither the Switch and Steam Deck are good options for someone who prioritize framerate and/or graphic quality above else, as the form factor will force to make concessions either way. And I say that the Switch is still a capable machine as it's one step below the PS4, like a mini portable version of it.

Then again, I mainly play japanese games so it does the job just fine.

The Switch is definitely at least two steps behind the other last gen consoles. Its just that games are so scalable now that if they hit midspec PCs they can hit Switch too.

The switch is like half an Xbone, but apparently the architecture and api are very dev friendly, which makes making these impossible ports easier.

They also aren't as universally great as people say they are. Don't get me wrong, I was glad I got to play Witcher 3 on anything but man those minute+ load-times suuuuuucked. And on occasion the game would shit the bed graphically, if you were doing something like going full out on a horse for long distances.
 
Nintendo is going to cut support for the most popular console since the wii just as it crosses the 110 million units sold mark gaiz trust me gaiz
I know the 5 year hardware cycle was beaten into people for decades straight but the modern market is a whole new animal and with the world being in a precarious state its wiser to stick with the product thats already proven itself. There's nothing stopping the switch from beating the gameboy's nine year life span when it revitalized the company, to say nothing of it consistently having exclusives that sell dozens of millions.

Gameboy only lasted that long if you don't count Color as a seperate system, which it totally was. Or take into account that it was supposed to be subsumed by VB and had to be given a second wind when that failed.

Both the ps3 and ps4 had 7 years life cycles tho

Original Game Boy was in 1989, Color was nine years later in 1998.
Or take into account that it was supposed to be subsumed by VB and had to be given a second wind when that failed.
There is not a chance in hell Virtual Boy was ever intended to outright replace the Game Boy.

Did you play it in handheld mostly? Most of the people I've talked to who didn't see much wrong with it were people who owned Lites or exclusively used the Switch portably. The performance issues were largely based on resolution as a lot of it went away when I turned the display down to 720p.

yeah I've played it exclusively in portable mode back then. I have gotten a large 32" pc screen (and use it as a TV) a few months ago to play more often in docked mode.

The sole games I remember struggling on the Switch have been Serious Sam 3, The Talos Principle (both can only be played in Performance mode) and a bit of The Witcher 3.
But as a machine to play my japanese vidya including imports, I have no complaints whatsoever.
 
Another year, another cycle of Nintendo not releasing a ton of info on their big games (as usual) and games media/fans deciding that this means the game cannot be good.
