So over at the Sony thread there was a discussion going on about Game Preservation. As most of you are aware, the eShop for both WiiU and 3DS are closing down on March 27th. Luckily, every game on both platforms have either had a re-release on switch, or have already been preserved online via roms and such, so this is a non-issue... unless you're a normalfag consoomer like The Completionist who went on a fucking rampage and bought EVERY WiiU/3DS title for his own "preservation"

Of course, everyone who isn't a fucking idiot is laughing at his stupidity.

lol is he really trying to spin consoomer clickbait as game preservation? Wikipedia tells me there are 35 Wii U exclusives and 233 3ds exclusives, if that's his concern why not buy only those games? it would probably cost like 5% of what he spent.

Just look at Arlo buying out a stores entire stock of Starlink Star Fox bundles just because they were on clearance.
 
It sucks that the eShop for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will close down next week, but if you ask me, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to game preservation.



For the 3DS and DS, I even saw that they were selling some pretty interesting multicarts. Though, it probably could be just the same old popular games with a few obscure titles that no one has probably played.

If this dumb fucker actually cared about preservation he'd have brought them as they came out so that companies couldn't take down games with legal issues/rights issues or release bugs. Fortunately, a bunch of other, quieter, people have been doing that all along, though they don't have any self-aggrandizing YT videos to post about it.

Unless Jirard has his consoles modded to dump all the roms for those games, this is just an excuse to wave his e-dick and money around.

"Muh vidjya preservation!" Please, enlighten me, how many of those games are actually undumped and unavailable online for anyone with a modded console or emulator? If the claim is more than "a handful of games", I'll have to call bullshit.

From my experience of modding or pirating for previous consoles (specifically the Dreamcast, something that had DLC, and nowhere near the sales numbers of a fucking Nintendo console), almost everything the console has ever had to offer was READILY available for download from the Internet, DLC's included. There was literally only a small handful of games that did not have working roms, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out that particular problem has been remedied since that time.


Also, you know.... "Vidya preservation" is kind of a bullshit excuse to be this much of a consumer if you're not dumping the goods. Hardware fails and dies, it's an inevitability, Wii-U's especially are starting to break down like crazy, you aren't preserving shit if that console and its hard drive dies before you offload everything to somewhere it can be copied.

I like games that you may not and the reverse is true as well, not to mention personal tastes change over time. So by this simple reasoning, I consider anything worth to be shared (key word here). However, no point in buying tons of vidya if it's just to keep it for oneself and never get to play them anyway.

I'm just saying that it's funny how I heard so many people claim the Wii was majority shovelware 10 years ago, and now I see some of the same people claiming we need to preserve *everything* (Edit: and they've all, to my recollection, been faggots who just love to buy games to collect them and tend to shun piracy)

Now maybe Wii U was different, but it just always gives me a chuckle.
