It also looks like the OLED has a better stand. Not just a thin piece of plastic and can be readjusted to a different angle.

I guess nintendo also likes to play the game of "create a problem and then sell another version with it fixed"."
I have the normal switch that I only for Mario Kart and need to use one of these things to prop it up:View attachment 3559599
Yes it is a significantly better stand and the battery life is also improved. I rarely use it though because I already had one of these which I highly recommend if you can find one.

But overall I was very pleased with the OLED model. I can't recommend it to everyone because it is pretty expensive for mostly quality of life improvements. If you do want one though and are okay with the cost, you will not be disappointed one bit. Games look gorgeous on the new screen. Metroid Dread was designed for it as a showcase so of course that looks good; but with the vivid display mode activated games like Mario Odyssey and Animal Crossing are beautiful.

I had no idea a charging stand like that was made, that's cool. I currently shove my switch ontop of the bended cord while it's on my cushion and hope it doesn't fall over so I may look into one.
As someone who uses OLED, do you ever see pixelated lines of models when you look at objects on the screen closely? It's difficult to explain but when I played animal crossing I saw pixeled edges to my character's model which was slightly annoying given the switch and game's price.

Hm I haven't really noticed anything like that. At least there is no more aliasing than I remember there being before. It could be a little more noticeable with the better screen, though.

Yes I have both and use both. The OLED model has a slightly larger screen and the colors are much more rich and overall better looking. The speakers are better, too.
One overlooked point is that playing on higher brightness levels (50% and above) won't put a dent on the battery life unlike past models. Which is practical for outdoors use.

There is a larger stand from Hori that can be imported from Japan, which I found to be more stable and better built. It was an essential addition with the V2 model I used to have, although I still use it sometimes with my OLED model whenever I want to connect my train handle controller (for Densha de Go!) or the drum (for Taiko Tatsujin)

I would say the same thing as @Too Many Catgirls, I didn't notice anything on that matter.
The larger screen makes it easier to read any text though.

I like Hori but I won't touch anything to do with my system's charger and power consumption that isn't sold by Nintendo themselves. Doesn't matter if the manufacturer approves it; I never buy something so important from a third party. I'll take a manufacturer product with a manufacturer warranty.

ARMS reached 2.5 million in sales as of December of 2020 by word of mouth alone and has consistently sold ~250K units each year, likely crossed the 3 million barrier by now; it has more than made its development budget back to justify a sequel. And I'm glad, because the game is preceisly the type of left field, genre-convention-ignoring-creativity that Nintendo thrives on when it isn't making Mario cash-ins.
Well the Arms team are part of the same working group as the Splatoon team (and they do Animal Crossing too, Jesus Christ what utter legends) so they probably have to finish S3 first since it's not just an unofficial remaster of Splatoon 1 this time.

Hey some of those Mario cash-ins are awesome though.
Some of them are nice, but I can't help but wonder if most did not just get the Mario branding slapped on as a way to increase sales for concepts Nintendo didn't think had legs with OC.

And Yabuki has been working on Mario Kart Tour since 2019, with the series workload increasing due to 8's DLC. I'm sure he'd love to jump back into ARMS, but his hands are tied with these prior obligations for now.

Going back decades now, Nintendo has made no bones about using their existing characters to the fullest extent while focusing on the game mechanics. I remember a discussion with Miyamoto once (it may have been in a Iwata Asks) where he went on about how he does not believe there is much reason to make a game if the mechanics are not being improved or otherwise evolved and that the character in the game is ultimately irrelevant with respects to that pursuit. Which is to say that because Mario already exists and is popular, it would make no sense from a design and business perspective to create a new character and eschew any benefit of using Mario or Link instead and peeling off some of that existing fanbase and goodwill in the process. Mario as a entity is a mascot and entirely separate from the design process and if a good design idea is given the green light to become a game, Nintendo will find a suitable, existing mascot to overlay onto that idea if at all possible.

It makes sense to me. I never really put much stock in the "it's the same character all the time" complaints because I guess what I want is largely what Nintendo delivers, which is a mechanically-sound experience with appropriate changes often and large shifts in design paradigm less-frequently.

Zelda is a good example of Nintendo going too long without making a major change because after Wind Waker I more or less stopped enjoying Zelda games until A Link Between Worlds and Breath of the Wild. Mario on the other hand seems to have a different sort of dynamic in this regard because I have largely enjoyed Nintendo's 2D and 3D Mario entries throughout despite a general lack of major changes until recently. The only time the Mario series got a bit funny was when the "New" aesthetic began to get overused. But then Mario Odyssey was great and so was Bowser's Fury. The biggest misstep in recent memory with Mario was Super Mario 3D World gumming up the analog controls.

Oh shit, your right, Arms is from the MK team, not the AC/Splat team. Honestly makes it a little more plausible that they'd have Arms 2 mostly done and ready for a Q1/2 2023 launch.

Adding on to this, two of the more well-known examples are Star Fox Adventures (originally Dinosaur Planet) and Kirby’s Epic Yarn (originally Fluff’s Yarn). This even dates all the way back to the NES, with several leaked Dr. Mario prototypes being mostly complete gameplay-wise but having no Mario branding. But sometimes the inverse happens; Splatoon was going to be a Mario spin-off at one point in development.

I got yuzu switch emulator working on the steam deck, motions controls and everything works perfectly. Shame can't do online play except for private and lan servers ;\

How complicated is the setup?
Incredibly easy, download yuzu from pacman. Drop the encryption keys in ~/.var/app/org.yuzu_emu.yuzu/data/yuzu/keys/ Yuzu should autodetect and autoconfig most of everything correctly, make sure you're using vulkan backend and then set the controller to pro, and "steam virtual gamepad", and done. So far I've tested BoTW, mario odyssey, links awakening, and metroid dread, motion controls worked, no glitches or graphical errors, working flawlessly so far.

Looks like the Switch is getting a Tactics Ogre game. I suspect its a minor upgrade of the PSP release which is a great game in my opinion. Would wait for reviews in case there are weird technical issues which seem to plague a lot of these remasters on Switch but if its a solid port then well worth playing. Tactics Ogre is one of the best SRPGSs better than FF Tactics by a long shot.

It's supposed to be the remastered SNES version. FF Tactics was alright, but Vandal hearts and Tactics Ogre were always my favorites. Onimusha for gba was pretty fun too.
Per Square Enix, the games improvements include:
  • Beautifully remastered graphics
  • Fully voiced cutscenes in English & Japanese
  • Full orchestral re-recording of the game’s soundtrack
  • Redesigned battle system
  • Adjusted level management system
  • Reworked AI
  • Simplified and improved UI

Not a Ogre Battle 64 remake but I will take it.

Digimon Survive runs OK on Switch. Not nearly as terrible as I'd heard, but I've noticed drops here and there. It's like 90% visual novel, 10% SRPG anyway so framerate isn't really high on the list of things I'm concerned about.

thats what ive heard. its surprsing how terrible the digimon games always are and then they say the digimon IP isnt popular.

Well no...the digimon games are terrible but the concept of digimon is A+ and would sell well with a good game connecting real world digital world BS with some sort of replayable combat system/gameplay loop.

They just need to throw their pride away and make a straight up Pokemon clone. Most Digimon games are mediocre or bad, so just do what works.
