a direct where I literally shouted out holy shit a few times, today was a good day. Honestly, didn’t think a partner direct could interest me as Switch’s showcased 3rd party is typically JRPG (primarily turn-based), which I usually lack any interest in.

Going over what was shown
  1. Portal Collection - Love it, but is it physical? I like lining my shelf and not wasting space on Switch, so I will definitely be picking it up if it is.
  2. Pac-Man World: Holy shit, they actually got the rights to Mrs. Pac-Man. I never thought I would see this game given the current legal battle with AT Games, but here it is.
  3. Nier Automata - Again, is this physical? Otherwise Nier was fantastic and the new costumes look nice. Might think about triple dipping for it. Otherwise, I would just play my PS4 copy as it likely runs better on 5 than Switch. Kinda surprised Replicant isn’t also coming?
  4. Mario + Rabbids - Looks as great as the original, just a definite buy.
  5. Sonic Frontiers - Mixed? It maybe can be fun as I like open worlds, but it is also Sonic. I only wonder if that final shot implies Infinite is back.
  6. Return to Monkey Island - I am just going to wait for Wiiviewr to review this as he is the only big fan of the series I know. Otherwise I don’t care.
  7. Disney Dreamlight Valley - I remember seeing the YT comments saying the company behind it is shit and lying about the product. It being early access gives little hope.
  8. Blanc - Honestly looks interesting.
  9. Bomberman R 2 will be fun, but Nintendo, please add exclusive content to it. The last game ended up being better on other systems because they did, so I wonder if a year after release this will follow suit.
  10. Persona Collection - Honestly, already got Catherine and Catherine > Persona. You know it’s true.

The extra content for the Switch version look like it may hit other platforms in time with the concert/event they're planning.
They said in the Direct that it was Switch exclusive extras. So all that may stay on the Switch. If the game runs as smooth as looked in the Direct, I'd say this version might be worth getting for the extra content, especially if you haven't bought it already.

I assumed that just meant it was a GotY version. Was there anything new shown in the direct footage?

5. I AM THE SHARPEST OF BLADES!
8. Very, actually. Great for coop with the wife.

New costumes were shown off that were never part of the original game.

Genuinely speaking, I don't think Infinite was a bad idea for a character. He had a cool design and voice, and his presence could be intimidating. The story was just too rushed to make anything of him and the Shadow DLC stripped him of his coolness.

Agree. I even unironically liked his song before I also started enjoying it for the memes.

Sonic is at it's best when it is doing SA bullshit super powerful monsters so Infinite was cool in my book. He has no fault the game he was in was shit.

Nope, it's a new character, an AI named Sage:

Nintendo awooo'd all over everyone with a freshman-tier Direct.

The first party Direct is going to physically hurt the competition.
I guess, depending on who you are, what you want and how you feel about announcements that are over a year off. The near-term is XB, which we know about, followed by Splatoon which we also know about. Next year is Zelda, which honestly, we know about that too despite the few moments of gameplay shown, and then Mario, Mario Kart and MP3 as farther off-unannounced/nothing known about games.

And personally? I have zero interest in Splatoon so their directs are unlikely to do anything for me before the Zelda blowout.

No they didn’t, they replaced her with ”Pac-Mom”.
Which brings up a lot of questions for the Pac-Lore. Does Ms. Pac-Man not exist anymore? Who is the mother of Jr. Pac-Man?
Has Pac-Man been pucking Pac-Mom? :tomgirl:

You are confusing me. But it's okay.

Its amazing hearing that this is apparently a shock or surprise when, umm, most of the Phantasy Star series is single-player.
I think he means the series turned into Phantasy Star Online for so long that seeing a new single player entry would be a bigger and more interesting reveal than another Persona release.

I'm just surprised they didn't port Persona Q while they were at it.

Yeah, a new single player Phantasy Star, one that preserves the funky aesthetic of the original series, would be a lot of fun to see. Likewise, I’d like a new Shining Force that keeps the big hair anime style of the original

Hmmm looks like just P4G for me since 5R steelbook on ps4 already

P3P.....I thought it was going to be like the others with walking around exploring and stuff but now I am hearing its essentially P3 The Visual Text Novel?! Doesn't Laura Bailey play a female protagonist? I'm confused

I'll phrase it like this as someone who played Persona first with P3P.

You know those overworld sections in 5, take that, and just make it into a really basic screen like you were playing a GBA game with an 'overworld' where it is just set points. Everything else is more or less the same, the dungeon crawling is still movable and it is effectively like mementos. You lose a decent bit of immersion, but it isn't the worst as the more interesting setting is still the same aka the maze dungeon area with all the enemies. It will make the social links so much faster as a small plus because you don't have to move around a map.

Laura Bailey plays the female protagonist in P3P, so they're basically like Joker in P5.
