Is Super Mario 3D World really short? Having a blast but blazing through it, judging by the in game map I don't have much left already unless there's a second set of maps.

Is that why Bower's Fury was included?

Spider-Man 2 and SNES Lion King are my gold standards for movie tie-ins. Stuart Little 2 on the PS1 was also good. Chicken Run had an okay MGS clone.
Toy Story 2 also had a pretty solid platformer on the PS1, there's also of Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay which is probably the best movie tie in released around when the movie came out.

Yeah there's four secret harder worlds you can unlock by collecting everything up to the end of world 8 if I remember correctly.

Are these reskins of existing levels? Because one of the "New!" games on the 3DS did this.

Yeah I think most of them are but I remember some levels I didn't recognize sprinkled throughout, and of course the big final challenge level at the last world.

Doom is currently on sale for $9.99 on the e-shop. Doom Eternal is also on sale. Has anyone here played those on Switch, how are they?
I have Doom 2016

It's alright, perfectly playable, though it's low-res and runs at a noticeably lower framerate than other versions, for obvious reasons. Even has gyro aiming, if that's your thing. Doom '16 is a game that benefits more than most from high resolutions and framerates because of its fast and visceral nature, but if you don't give a shit and like the idea of playing it portably more, you'll be happy.

3D World has a pretty decent amount of post-game content. Bowser’s Fury was added as an incentive for people leery of spending $60 on a game that came out in 2013. There’s also the possibility that you are blazing through because the speed of the characters was increased pretty significantly for the Switch port. It’s a great game and I love the soundtrack.

Doom eternal runs a little better than 2016 which is crazy. They are both playable and absolutely the worst versions of both. There are lots of equivalent boomer shooters like quake/dusk/powerslave that are probably a better experience.

Surprised no one has mentioned this, but a few days ago, Nintendo acquired another company by the name of SRD. Apparently SRD has been working alongside Nintendo for four decades, all the way since the 80s. I've never even heard of this company prior to the acquisition, but apparently they were integral to Nintendo's development process back in the day, as they were Nintendo's only available team of programmers (Nintendo didn't have in house programmers till the 90s). They had a hand in programming nearly every game Nintendo ever released, for every console Nintendo ever released. Since the original F-Zero, the last game they were the main programmers for, they've largely worked as a support studio.

This acquisition marks a major policy change for Nintendo in regards to acquisitions. First off, Nintendo, historically, has not been a very acquisition heavy company. They seemed almost scared of using M&A. Now this is the second major corporate acquisition for Nintendo in roughly a year (after they acquired Next Level Games on March 1). Second, this is a company that has worked alongside Nintendo for decades, and Nintendo made no attempt, as far as we know, to change the relationship till now. We could be seeing a major policy shift from the company, one that could have long term ramifications.

The only question is: whose next? HAL Laboratories? Intelligent Systems? Camelot Software Publishing? Grezzo? Good-Feel? Something bigger?
Hopefully Monolith. Make Xeno titty games forever

Neat, I wasn't aware of that, other than noticing the characters do look funny zipping around, but I didn't know that wasn't the way it was in the original game.

And yeah, it is a great game, it's really cool the way it's halfway between 2D Mario and 3D Mario, it's like mixing peanut butter and chocolate.

Holy shit was I EVER surprised by Dusk. What a fun game! One of the few games that you absolutely must play with headphones, that soundtrack is absolutely up there with the best that Mick Gordon or others ever made.

One thing that kinda shocked me is that Bowser’s Fury steps down to 30fps if you play portable. So odd, especially since literally every other Mario platformer on Switch is 60 fps. The change is quite jarring.

Turns out that I was wrong about Majora's Mask, it seems that it has solid emulation. Even Ocarina got its fog back in the update.

Feeling a bit more tempted to upgrade, I just want to wait until something like Donkey Kong 64 gets added.

Atelier Sophie 2 is really pushing the block autism-o to the extreme with its alchemy grid system.

I want to buy the physical version of astral chain but I cannot seem to find it in the usual stores, and it is overpriced in our version of ebay. Metroid dread also seems to be out of stock in quite a few stores, thankfully SMT V is still in stock, guess I'll buy it before they run out.
I'm baffled at how hard it is to get physical copies of games that are not even two years old.
Sole places I've ever used to purchase Switch physicals were local super/hyper markets (which lowers the MSRP by 25% off including very recent releases) and amazon jp (for imports and certain game/console accessories, never got bothered by the EU customs). Stock clearances may also happen but that's the kind of thing you should expect the less.

Ahem…

You guys really going to forget this?
How can I forget something I never knew existed?

Okay but seriously, I have a movie-based game on the PS2 and it's great. It's the Incredibles 2: Rise of the Underminer, yeah I'm not shitting you, the game was supposed to be the true sequel of what we've gotten shat out by Disney.

And like most people out there I had a few Harry Potter games.

Cool full circle moment, the composer for Dusk did the music for the Doom Eternal DLC after Mick Gordon left.

Triangle Strategy's route map has been leaked on 4chan, to the surprise of nobody. And no, the story doesn't branches off into several separate routes, early on; it's mostly 2-4 separate levels before it goes back to the main sequence of events. But the last three or 4 chapters branches out into their own routes based on the morality points that you've accumualted and the entire plot is more or less what you've seen between the various trailers and two demos. Archive.

Hooray for piracy, I just saved sixty bucks.

@Basic Blonde Boy I WAS GONNA SAY THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE GAME, GOD-DAMN YOU

Since he took my pick, I'll go with my two other ones -

^(They're actually making a spiritual sequel to this in the style of a Metroidvania, and it actually looks DAMN good)
Batmancover.jpg

Both really solid NES platformers (the latter is tougher than a mug, though).

What, that repetitive 3D beat-em-up where all you do is hit robots in brown and gray tunnels with basic attacks and occasional special attacks? I remember renting that game because I loved the movie, and ending up being incredibly disappointed.

Nobody. It may come as a surprise to some of you considering it too is a successful platform holder, but Nintendo is way off the scale of business of Microsoft and Sony, corporations that have numerous hugely profitable interests beyond gaming (NOTE: I'm not sucking either's dick here, just stating a fact). Nintendo isn't even the biggest pure entertainment company in gaming. As a business, Nintendo doesn't need the risk and headaches associated with owning and managing those companies in order to have profitable partnerships that produce excellent results for players and shareholders alike. This strange frenzy among some of you guys for an acquisition race runs counter to how Nintendo operates, and indeed how it can operate.
