tbh I'm on board with this, I never really thought about it much but I can't think of very many memorable videogame songs from that era. After racking my brain and skimming my collection, I just came up with Persona 4, Mega Man Battle Network, and Advance Wars: Dual Strike. Granted, licensed music was everywhere starting in that era, but @Mike Stoklasa's right. The vast majority of music from the 6th generation that I remember was licensed.
6th gen had some good tracks, but it really felt like most stopped focusing on music. You know something is wrong when the OSTs from that era that I can distinctly recall came from SpongeBob.

Other than him…Sunshine had a fine ost and Melee has some memorability. Sonic is great of course. Umm…I guess Ratchet & Clank had some distinct tracks like Metropolis and Death to All Squishies. Crash Twinsanity had the a cappella meme song from the late 00s.

Yeah, no.. SpongeBob, Sonic, Kingdom Hearts, Persona, and Metal Gear were probably the only really iconic osts.

Can anyone recommend any good shmups for switch? Now before you go off on me, I know there’s tons of “good” shmups, but… ehhh, I’m not really all about the super-stylized Jap shmups that look like I’m trapped in a hikikomori’s waifu bed sheets. I’m a boomer so I loved classic PC shmups. Think Tyrian, Raptor, Baryon, shit like that. Does anyone have any recommendations for more west-y shmups?

P.s. I already have Jets n Guns, that game is dope
If japanese anime artstyle is really your personal kryptonite then:

Crimzon Clover World EXplosion
Ikaruga
Raiden IV x Mikado Remix
G-Darius HD
Razion EX
Crisis Wing

Well there trillions of them, of every style and subgenre from Space Invaders to modern indies, and once you eliminate the anime ones there are still trillions. Thunder Force IV regularly goes for cheap and it's a quality 2D blow-stuff-up game with no Sailor Moon aesthetics and the graphics and music will in fact rock your socks, but it is a Genesis port and admittedly not much like a PC shmup. I'm gonna pull a gigachad move and recommend a game I've never actually played: Sturmwind. Has pretty graphics, seems to resemble an old Euro game, appears well-received.

If you haven't played R-Type yet the remaster of the first two games is on Switch, and you can switch between old and new graphics in real time.

Ratchet & Clank had a pretty distinct soundtrack. It really stands out if you decide to play the game based on the movie on the PS4, which decided to ditch that, and went for generic movie orchestral music.

Is Pikmin 3 worth the 60 dollars? I'm thinking about playing while going to work. I have never played a Pikmin game before and I was kinda curious.

I really liked it but it is more linear like the other guy said and I don't think it would be a good commte game because you'd have to stop playing too soon.

Picked up Need For Speed Hot Pursuit when it was on sale. The cross-platform online multiplayer is great. I definitely wish more games would do that shit. It should be the standard, really.

Kind of interested in checking out World War Z. Has anyone here played it?

Thanks for the answer, you might be right. Also, I think you can't save the game whenever you want and that could be a problem

I tried WWZ on Gamepass a few months ago and it was... Meh. Its really just team death matchs with some zombie hordes sprinkled around. You might like it, but even so, the matchmaking on Switch could probably be undead.

The switch just outsold the PS1 at 102.8 million units sold apparently. At this rate it will outsell the PS4 by this time next year.

Hell of a turnaround from the WIi U, I can't believe the Switch has already outsold the Wii. How much more can it sell?

And okayish Pokemon games.
That last part only relates to Pokemon apologists. Absolutely nobody with good tastes likes the newer games.

Pokemon for a while has been at a point where they continue to make "questionable" choices that ACTUAL fans call them out for, but everyone else keeps praising and supporting, which is why even after the garbage fire that was Sword and Shield it still sold a fuck-ton of copies. Legends: Arceus will probably sell well too, because fuck standards I guess.

People who like the new games are apologist with bad taste? The absolute state of old-school fans.

Dragon Quest only suffered bad gameplay with 9 and even 9 wasn't as bad as Pokemon has gotten.

Pokemon suffers from devs not putting enough time into the games because they have to get them out to push non-game related shit like dolls and toys.

I emulated the first two games on Dolphin in 2020 (although I've actually finished only the first game which took me somewhere around 10 hours iirc) and my playtime in Pikmin 3 last year reached 25 hours for completing the main campaign on Normal difficulty + Olimar's levels + gathering/slaying missions (I often tried to get the gold medal on those). Most of my pikmin deaths in the main campaign were from the final boss.

Pikmin 3 is more geared around micro-management since you get to control up to three crew members with several situations that require cooperation between two or three separate groups of pikmin at once as well as to manage your time efficiently. It's even more important so in higher difficulties which lower the amount of the time you can navigate around the zone level before the sun fall, or the mission levels for the highest score. The game allows a second player for split coop btw.

Pikmin 1 was more time-focused as you (as the sole playable character Captain Olimar) had to gather all the thirty pieces of the wrecked ship within 30 days before your reserve of air went out. Pikmin 2 threw away the concept of time limit as the main objective was to clear off the debt of your boss through "unknown" items you've gathered in the wild. It was also more about underground dungeon exploration to obtain more valuable items although you had to face many kind of traps and sometimes a boss fuck the slime roller

And to answer your question directly, I believe Pikmin 3 DE is worth the money, you might get it for a bit less as a physical cartridge depending of the retailer or second-hand.
The Pikmin themselves are cute too.

Perhaps, but Legends is the first modern game in a while to show promise.

Besides, the marketing and development team are two separate teams. The games suffer from lack of more developing time, but I doubt the marketing has anything do with it.
