I wish there was a mode to play with original song and save functionality. Because the changes you brought up absolutely destroy the game's sense of urgency and immersion.
That is part of the charm of Majora's Mask its limited saving and time constraints gives it charm but I don't thing I have the luxury of time being an adult to set the time to play Majora's Mask like it was intended.

I get that. And hey, I can always play the original. Or... maybe the GameCube re-release to avoid some of those system lock issues on the N64.

It's not a bug, it's a feature!

Yeah but the gcn release has crashing problems unfortunately, which is bad enough for most games but AWFUL with this one's mechanics. Still ended up being my favorite zelda despite it being the version I grew up with, though

I think AVGN's review of Majora's Mask summed up my thoughts on it pretty well. That time gimmick is a double-edged sword, it's a cool idea but a bitch to deal with.

RE Majora's Mask 3DS: as someone who didn't play it when it was new the new baby game options from the remaster like the Reverse Song of Time and being able to save mid cycle were a godsend for making the game more accessible. Also modern dual stick camera controls. I do think there should have been an accurate remake mode that disabled these though, that's not too much to ask. Understand why it's so controversial after OoT 3D ended up the best way to play the game.

Sorry to interrupt the echo chamber but you guys do realize that the Song of Double Time and the Inverted Song of Time aren't actually added to the remake? They were in the first game all along, they just happened to be secret songs that you couldn't look up in the menu. The scarecrow even brings it up once you have the Ocarina.

They never destroyed the game's urgency by being 'added' retroactively because they were always there.

Yes. But the Song of Double Time was changed to allow you to select an hour to jump to. I dislike that.

What's your fucking problem, faggot?

THAT'S NOT WHAT I SAID YOU FUCKING RAPE FAGGOT.

I said Nintendo's GameCube-era (and DS-era) music is not as good as what they produced before and after. There was a very generic malaise over a lot of it. Some tracks were good, but for every Luigi's Mansion you had stuff like Double-Dash, Sunshine, New Super Mario Bros. et cetera. And contrasted against stuff like Metroid Prime, the deficiency in Nintendo's music production of that era is severely lacking.

It is strange because some of their best games also came out in that era, but also some of their most plain games. I think some of that was a result of Hiroshi Yamauchi's long shadow still working its way out of Nintendo as a whole.

Sonic has always had great music. It's just the gameplay, mechanics, story, characters, setting, graphics and themes that suck.
tbh I'm on board with this, I never really thought about it much but I can't think of very many memorable videogame songs from that era. After racking my brain and skimming my collection, I just came up with Persona 4, Mega Man Battle Network, and Advance Wars: Dual Strike. Granted, licensed music was everywhere starting in that era, but @Mike Stoklasa's right. The vast majority of music from the 6th generation that I remember was licensed.

Remasters are the bane of creativity. I hate them.

Play the originals as they were, even if it is on new hardware; and developers spend their time making something new instead of perpetuating the slow death of the hobby.
You'd rather play the original Nier when a version that has better combat, more content, and a playable Kaine exists? Were you shaken as a baby?

Idk, there was a lot of good stuff. Shadow of the Colossus, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid 2. Final Fantasy X has one of the best OSTs in the entire series.

Honestly a friend of mine who had actually played the N64 version said the reverse song of time wasn't in it and I've only really played the 3DS version (despite MM N64 being the only N64 Wii VC game I bought back in the day). Looked it up and the mid cycle Owl Statues allowing you to save were in the western N64 versions too. They do shove the Reverse song in your face in MM3D, but you can just not use it if you don't like it.

Considering this new information, can someone actually explain to me why MM3D is considered a bad port? The improved framerate, gyro aiming, and quicker menuing from the touch screen are the same reasons that OoT 3D is better. These are the best reason for remasters: they fix the fact that the N64 games were an unreliable 20 FPS and made them portable.

It simplified alot of things in a good way, like the bomber's notebook, but they fucked with the movement and made the deku link skipping slightly more jank, Zora in particular was kinda fucking clipped for no reason and the Bosses were all wierdly homogenized, iirc, they all got a wierd glowing eye weakspot that usually popped out of random spots, while the original mostly let you damage every spot or the obvious places, iirc the first boss used to be stunnable via arrow in OG, and then you could also just hit him with a sword since he was just a regular guy, all of them usually had several ways of stunning that get reduced to just one, and have the eye weakspot shit instead of just hitting em

they also changed the giant mask to make Link into a biggas brute, while it makes some sense, it just looks jank and shit

while remembering and googling around for the changes since i did recall noticing while playing it, i found this video, that illustrates most of the shittier changes

Kingdom Hearts
Shrouding Dark Cloud and Sinister Sundown from the 2nd game are the ONLY songs from the series that I actually like, and even then IMO the PS2 versions are better than the Final Mix ones... for some reason the Final Mix versions are more "quiet". Otherwise I'm not a big fan of Orchestra Music unless it has a good beat (i.e. DDR songs like V -For Extreme- and Brilliant2U -Orchestral Groove- )

Game music became licensed because they could make way more money off of it.

Take something like Persona 5, nearly every track is accredited to an artist. Something like Demon's Souls even has an LP.

I would be happy for a remaster of F-Zero GX with a normie mode difficulty and all the arcade content in the game.
Would you be happy for port that's completely unaltered except for emulation glitches and additional input lag, and it costs $59.99? Well, doesn't matter, because we're not getting that either.

What I never got is that the game also had two fishing spots added, but both of them where pointless because nothing was added to make it worth playing. The setting even makes it even more weird in that you normaly don't have the time to fuck around, and it cycles trough diffrent fish for different days.

Zelda autists like their crappy rng fishing minigames

I kinda liked the twilight princess one, but fuck catching the salmon

Can anyone recommend any good shmups for switch? Now before you go off on me, I know there’s tons of “good” shmups, but… ehhh, I’m not really all about the super-stylized Jap shmups that look like I’m trapped in a hikikomori’s waifu bed sheets. I’m a boomer so I loved classic PC shmups. Think Tyrian, Raptor, Baryon, shit like that. Does anyone have any recommendations for more west-y shmups?

P.s. I already have Jets n Guns, that game is dope

What about Sine Mora? I got it for £1 or something recently. Its pretty good. I'm not a big shmup fan though so it might be considered treash tier.

Thanks man, that looks pretty good! Like the art style. I’m not one of those S-tier shmup guys who need a bazillion bullets on the screen to have fun, so this looks up my alley
