Sounds more like a "you" problem.

Cut grass and go exploring.
If i wanted to cut grass and go exploring, I'd fucking go into my back yard or take a walk through the forest. I'm on the BOTW was boring side myself. I get why it's appealing to people and the world is fun to run around and dick around it, but, that's about it. If it hadn't been a zelda game, I probably would have appreciated it more,

I guess maybe i'm old fashioned, but I like the whole item based progression through increasingly complex and difficult dungeons accompanied by a large overworld with side quests and story exposition. That's kinda what makes zelda, zelda. Without that, it's just another generic open world fantasy game with a zelda theme.

Well, it certainly doesn't help much that the game dumps everything on you that isn't the Ancient Arrows and the Master Sword as soon as you're ready jump out of the tutorial level. And even the new tablet isn't used that much in the Overworld, aside from pulling out an map.

It's the exact opposite of an Zelda game, considering that everything that you discover is immediately obtainable.

Yeah I agree. I dunno, I feel like they could have kept the open world and exploring while having some semblance of an item progression system.

That's not the same as finding an item that adds an entirely new mechanic to the game periodically.
Like, say, obtaining an grappling hook or explosives?
They do, colored enemies become more common the more shrines you do, and thus give you better weapons, you just didn't notice it.
It's still the same routine, just with slightly fancier swords.

The various arrows and elemental weapons do, as well as individual ones like the boomerangs, plus the one-off upgrades to your slate powers. Plenty of bad powerups in previous games were annoying to have to dig out and use to clear paths, I am glad those are gone. And then there are the clothing pieces...

All it takes is comparing the inventories of a player five hours in and another one fifty hours in to see how much progression the game throws at you.

It's a different kind of progression, one i'm less fond of personally. The open world kind of progression, elder scrolls games, modern fallout games, BOTW other such games of incremental here's a million things and look you found something, yay here's a slight improvement, maybe, I find less appealing than, old school zelda, metroidy, action-adventure style, well it's not a million things, but this one new thing i've found might be kinda cool, but even if it's not, it will at least let me find some cool shit.

Well, aside from the inevitable flood of indie games, Metroid, Pokemon, and that anime series with the psycho bear; there isn't a lot to get aboard the hype train.
I do expect japanese third-party games which is what I've bought the Switch for, as a "Playstation" system. Past japanese streams also had a showcase of titles that were not present in the west like Super Robot Wars 30, The Caligula Effect 2 and Crayon Shin-chan Natsuyasumi. That said, the Tokyo Game Show next week will be more adequate for that.

As for BOTW, I see that, despite its high acclaim, it appears to have divided opinions around here.

For me at least, I love it, and still consider it to be my favorite game of the 2010s, mainly for how it blended many of the elements common in immersive sims with an open-world setting, giving me more freedom than I have experienced in most other games, and certainly in open-world games. The progression was less about gaining new weapons, and more simply you coming to terms with and mastering the many mechanics given to you, along with experimenting with the physics and interactive elements in the world (there's a reason why people are still finding new ways to play it even now).

If you prefer the more traditional Zelda formula and progression, I fully understand (heck, my other two favorites in the series are Wind Waker and Twilight Princess). But for me, BOTW remains one of the best games ever made.

The thing that ruins BoTW for me was the weapon durability. It was fine in the opening minutes and that one island where you're stripped of your gear, but once you've secured yourself some decent weapons, it started to become a major hassle. The most frustrating moments were when I needed to time-stop a physics object to get it up a platform or across a pit, because the physics were very imprecise and every failure meant your weapon supply was gradually being depleted. That shit nearly made me turn it in for a return on investment. The only reason I stuck with it is because it had the Zelda label, and even then I found it pretty underwhelming for a Zelda game.

Weapon durability is a bit of a sticking point for a lot of people.

Honestly, I didn't have a problem with it, as I was always finding ways to defeat the enemies that didn't involve rushing on in, instead using the environment and mechanics to create different methods. Heck, by the halfway point, I was absolutely inundated with weapons to the point that I wanted them to start breaking to clear up my inventory.

For that physics problem, you could always use things like bombs or the like to do the stasis puzzle as well. Remember, there's almost always another way to get through each scenario in BOTW, and much like titles from Looking Glass and Ion Storm Austin, you may even solve problems in ways the devs may not have even thought of, simply by using the mechanics on hand to your advantage.

TGS is already pre-confirmed to be ass. Everyone is showing third party games and none of them will actually be exclusive. Ms. Kobaiyashi's dragon maid may get it's gameplay shown and answer what fucking genre it will be(it better not be another fucking rhythm game). Dragon Quest 12 may still be too far out for further information, and all the good genres are a ways off from being shown. So expect not only disappointment, but the same shit we've seen 3 or more times already. Every company has delayed stuff to 2022 and 2023 but not even first quarter but closer to second and third.

The upside is, zero chance at smash reveals, which means nobody in Nintendo's primary base will bother with it. So we won't get fucking Arlo spraying his puppet jizz everywhere.

Random drops barely count as an upgrade and the boomerangs managed to be less useful than usual. You'll probably get one throw in before an hoard of monsters runs after you. Plus, you'll cause a lot more damage with an exploding arrow.

Apparently Nintendo Japan’s website updated by accident and revealed some shit. Of note are a new Kirby game in Spring and Bayonetta 3 apparently coming next year.
