Eh, why have a game on the latest HEXBOX or POS when I can get it for my computer for cheap? I prefer Nintendo, if only because their first party exclusives are pretty great and almost 100% guaranteed not to be ported to PC.
This.

Thank god this isn't Reddit. Negativity is punished, as the mods must maintain a circle-jerk atmosphere at all time. Pointing out inconvenient facts are ignored or downvoted. Shitposting is encouraged, as the board is filled with "My local GameStop is stocking Nintendo Switch!" or "Mock-ups I made of Joy-Cons" or "Developer X is interested in the Switch!"

I made a poll that the mods rejected as being too "low effort" despite all this (their words, not mine), and I guess I can recycle it here since the mods aren't overzealous nutcases (ignore the "Comment on Reddit", comment here!)

Regarding the poll, I'd say it's a combination of multiple factors. A high price at launch might be an issue, but it would be alleivated if we knew that we could be expecting a whole bunch of games. Conversely, a small launch lineup could be forgiven if the price of the console was adjusted downwards to make jumping in less of an issue. As for being underpowered, it's a toss up between "a lot of developers don't value optimisation" and "they can't be expected to study the ins and outs of the console if they already have other established venues to promote their content".
In a way, that also applies to lack of backwards compatibility. I'm guessing Nintendo's thought process here is that due to the poor sales of the Wii U, implementing a feature that wouldn't be used by many would be a waste of cash, especially seeing how the dual-screen nature of the Wii U means some games would need to be adjusted for the Switch. As for games from generations before that, that shouldn't be too much of an issue thanks to the Virtual Console... emphasis on "shouldn't". Nintendo can't get it into their head that they have millions of dollars of revenue just lying around which they could easily get their hands on by just uploading a bunch of ROMs and ISOs to their store, but they just felt the need to restart their eShop infrastructure with the WiiU, only to then charge you extra for selected Wii VC games just for the privilege of not having to go into the virtual Wii's interface.
So, to put it simply, almost every factor on the list plays into the problem. They would be bearable on their own, but put them all together and I fail to see how one can't at least be sceptical regarding the Switch's success. I WANT Nintendo to do well, and it's not like they're not making some steps forward, but it always seems like they can't just make straight up improvements like they're some mad man min maxer.

Any word on when they're releasing the switch's Mario Kart? Because thats the only reason to buy Nintendo products afaik

Does anyone else think Arms looks like a weird-ass Virtual On? It has the twin stick controls and everything. I'm a bit excited for it based on that alone.

Any sense about how big the games are? Everything I've read suggests an SD/SDHC/SDXC/whatever card of 64 GB as the absolute minimum if you're going to be downloading and not getting physical copies. And that storage gets kind of pricy once you hit 128 GB and above. Not sure if there's also some kind of performance hit in there as well.

I'm not saying I won't get a Switch at some point, but I see no reason to rush. I own a Wii U and I have several games I haven't finished, from Xenoblade Chronicles to Lego City: Undercover. I'll probably re-visit the Switch once Splatoon 2 comes out. I'm not much of an FPS guy, but I did enjoy that one, even if I kind of sucked.

As an aside, Lego City Undercover is to my mind sort of how games on the Wii-U should have been pretty much across the board. Game Pad is useful and separate from the TV screen, surprisingly funny story, etc. The downsides being the controls while driving (very frustrating) and what I'm guessing is going to be pretty close to no replayability once I finish. I think the ports coming out for it on PS4/XBO/Switch in 2017 are probably actually going to be inferior to the Wii-U version since none of them have any way to really use the Gamepad/TV dynamic.

I suppose I should start with the negatives.

The price is somewhat painful especially when you consider that someone could go buy a PS4 Slim for 50 dollars less and have more games available. Launch titles are abysmal.

I think there is this very narrow niche where Nintendo is looking to carve out. If anyone remembers the NVIDIA Shield Tablet it is essentially that with bigger titles.
Ports are I think going to be its biggest strength. Granted you can play Skyrim on a laptop but can you play it on a $300 laptop? Would it look as good as the Switch? I think thats the advantage the Switch has: Name Brand Portability at an affordable price. The Switch REALLY needs 3rd party support to make this work though

There is good news on that front though. The Switch is going to support UE4. The Wii-U never did support UE4

Its gonna be underwhelming af and people will eat it up cause tablet. I'll prob get one in 3 years as well because they most likely won't do another portable so RIP ds rpgs/pkmn. Overpriced accessories fuck you.

Same old Nintendo, they never learn do they? No Virtual Console at launch.

I got a chance to play the switch and of it's two games at work the other day. ( I was setting up the switch display at work and the Nintendo rep gave me a selling demo. )My first thoughts? holy fuck those joy cons are tiny. Like, I have fairly slim and narrow fingers and even I felt like they were awkward to hold. I can't imagine a grown man trying to use them!! But! The pro controller was really really nice. It was lovely actually, it had a good weight to it and it was very responsive.

The thing that I'm worried about is that the thing has FIVE main components to it. FIVE! That's so many! I can already hear the customer complaints of "I lost my joy con charger so....can I get my money back?"

(you have no idea how many people loose their wii u pro pad and just expect me to pull another compatible one out of my ass and present it to them free of charge.)

I would like to think that they're planning to allow free-of-charge transfers from the WiiU, but if I learned one thing from following Nintendo news, it's that things as obvious as this have to be treated as beyond your wildest imaginations from their perspective.

I think that was confirmed with photographs somewhere?

I think I've read somewhere that Wii U and 3DS VC games will transfer with a small fee. But if you bought both the 3DS and Wii U version of a VC game you get the switch version for free.
