I don't think it'll be a good comparison. Metroid II was a fine game, but not particularly beloved by Metroid fans or gamers at large since it was so much more primitive compared to Super onward. The remake was a massive overhaul that basically only shares the plot premise and basic boss ideas from the original game. It's otherwise completely different and way longer.
Not to metion budget and dev time. Can't image how much SF64R costs what with just the v-tumor rigging tech and voice acting on top of mocapped cutscenes. I doubt this'll be Metroid Prime 4 levels of disappointment and dev hell, though it stands to reason if enough people are willing to actually pony up for this in the hopes of succeeding enough to get or even consider an actual new game in the series or else Ninty'll banish it again for another decade or 2.

Considering you can do the same thing with basic bitch snapchat filters I don't think it's very costly to make or implement. This isn't newfangled space age tech, it's just gimmicky and pointless.

I just hope that this isn't Zero again. All the same buzz going around now about "Oh it;s just reintroducing all the young'ins to the series, they'll make new stuff after!" then the game underperforms and the series goes into a coma for another decade.

Well, and let's not forget Goytendo had to try and Kill AM2R during Metroid's 30th birthday because it was a better Metroid 2 remake than they could ever do. Fans doing what nintendon't really made the multi-national billion dollar company seethe.
Gonna have to play devil's advocate here again because Metroid Samus Returns was extremely good. AM2R isn't really better at all.

I want to be in the same room with half life 2 devs trying to convince miyamoto to sell the Krystal mod on switch.
show him that drawing and tell him "we've been thinking of this crossover since Starfox adventures on the gamecube"

I want to see his fucking face when Krystal's black father is unexplained and no one points it out.

On the contrary I hated Samus Returns, at every point does the game stop you from getting upgrades early or giving you any freedom
The final breaking point for me was the scripted sequence where you have to run and if you fail it sends you back to an auto checkpoint at the start of the sequence

This is a retard-take. Nintendo employees knew about the project, unofficially, for months and let it continue anyway, only sending a C&D after it was out in the wild and unable to be deleted. They literally went out of their way to not kill it.
