And the meatloaf one:

Also, anyone else remember this artist, Katsuya Terada? He did artwork in Nintendo Power for everything from Ultima III to Faxanadu to Demon's Crest to A Link to the Past:

Had Nintendo Power as a kid, was fuckin' awesome until maybe around the Gamecube-era when the shilling just got boring and you could grab all the shit you needed on the internet.

Hell, I still have the issues where CWC wrote into.

Ah, I remember buying a shit ton of them at Goodwill a few years ago. Loads of 64/Gamecube era stuff.

Wonder if I have the CWC issue, what number was that one?

I remember reading this before the internet became a thing and forgot it for a while until it died a while back, it was pretty much a reliable source of information to find those bullshit secrets and insider info on games to come.

As for the podcast, it seems too good to be true, but it seems that it is hosted by the editor in chief when the magazine was handed off to Future US and it was pretty much its decline period. :/

They'd send out tapes every now and then, like this Star Fox one:

It's a gem, like Youtube before Youtube.

Oh, nice. I had the Donkey Kong Country one, they really went balls-out promoting their big games.

I still miss their comics. Howard and Nester and the Mario comic had great art, and the Metroid and Zelda comics were actually compelling when I was a kid, at least.

Oh yeah, the comics were a great addition! Really made collecting the issues worth it as a kid!

I remember the Star Fox one being weird as shit with instead of dying, Fox's dad turned into some sort of Black Hole exploring space whale made up of numerous dead souls. I don't know who wrote that shit, but I want what they've been prescribed.

They also did one for A Link To the Past where Link goes into the Dark World and gets turned into a wolf, fifteen or so years before Twilight Princess.

That was done by the same guy who did Kamen Rider and Cyborg 009. Which why one character looks like Jet Link from 009.

There was a very Trippy Mario Comic as well.

It fits the story more than Link turning into an anthropomorphic pink rabbit. It's actually a pretty fun read if you haven't read it before: here

Ha I remember as a kid getting a Nintendo Power mail card and I filled it out in my neighbors credentials. Would go to his mailbox every month and pick up my shit. I wonder how that old fuck is doing anyways?

The Chad Amiga Power vs the virgin shill:

Speaking of Amiga Power:
The magazine "NGamer" was 100% trying to do it's best impression of that mag.

The state of Nintendo mags in the UK was bizarre. You had the official magazine which was what you'd expect and then NGamer which went to Suda51 events in Japan and reviewed SNK's little girl touching games on DS.
Both of them were from the same publisher, Future UK.

Referring back to the AP page: I remember the shitty Mario All-Stars collection on Wii getting fucking ravaged in NGamer and then a few issues afterward Nintendo paid for an advertorial supplement with a different glowing review. One specific pain point (The crappy CD that padded out it's runtime with a bunch of sound effects) was now recontextualized in such a pointed way that I believe it to be a subtle cry for help.

Also, German Nintendo Power is fucking insane.

I used to love reading Official Nintendo Magazine and NGamer, though I ended up mainly having more Official nintendo magazines thn Ngamers. Now I like to rearead Ngamer more because it doesn't suffer from first party bias, more humourous in both language and comedy, and has more interesting setions such as bootlegs, tird partys and fun images and things you wouldnt see in an offical magazine, including showcasing unoficial things. The later Offocial Nintendo magazines are also not as good or as interesting as the earlier ones being much less pages and less interestintg content overall.
I at first didnt like that they ended their ruhn but then i realized that iots probably for the better as they were alreaddy becoming pozzed as there was a Q&A section complaing about representation during the Tomodatchy Life controversy. Regardless all these magazines wether its Ngamer, offocicial Nintendo90 Magazine or Ninterndo Power, they were all corperate propaganda, Ngamer was just toned down as it was rather a fan maganzine.
