Codename S.T.E.A.M. was a massive flop. Its not getting a sequel. It does have all the makings of a cult classic though... Nintendo as distributor, unusual gameplay, cult humor, etc. That said, I've never played it and cannot comment on the quality.
It's an slogfest, at times. Overwatch and sniper spam breaks the game. But you need to stay awake with it.

Plus it comes with it's own theme song.

Why do Japs come up with the weirdest shit?

I'm told the FE Amiibo dudes are melee only, but are really good at that particular thing.

Anyways, as for other potential 3DS classics to pick up while the system's just freshly on its way out. I know there's a shitload of SMT/Etrian Odyssey games for it, I'll probably pick them all up used, physical copies ofc, when Covid shit is over and the used market drops to normal. I like the idea of collecting games, but only from genres I enjoy, or classics.

I've heard that the Bravely games are decent. Dunno about the fans.

Later release games like Samus Returns and the Paper Mario remake that bankrupted alphadream did not sell that well and might become rare and valuable someday. That said, if you are looking for value ten years in the future you'd be better off just sticking your money in the bank. 98 percent of games are not a good value investment and you generally won't know which the other 2 percent are until its too late.

Nah I also want to play them. Samus Returns is an excellent game asfaik. Idk about the M+L or Paper Mario games.

Just checked the price of SMT4. Thought it was going to be maybe 70 dollars on Amazon for a complete copy. Nope. It's over 100 for just the cartridge.

It's even worse on eBay. SMT4 was one of the best selling mainline games. The cartridge should not be this expensive.

Enough people decided to try a real Shin Megami Tensei game I guess.

I mean the lockdown's made a lot of people try JRPGs but holy shit. I didn't expect the used market to just go this way. I'm 90% sure that it wasn't scalpers that bought all this up either btw.

Funny thing is that SMT4 was around 20$ a few years ago. The coronavirus did blow up game prices. I am afraid to see what Gamecube games are going for.
i think it's mostly current gen systems and the 3ds stuff that's spiked a little. Mostly on the side of the switch/some 3ds games tho.

probably because it was like 20 bucks used up until march/april when ALL the SMT 3ds games spiked in price on the used market.

Nocturne's easy to emulate and can be gotten for like 15 bucks used in good condition. But I guess that's not what the public wanted at the time?
I don't think the price hike is going to stick. It looks too artificial because rarity hasn't decreased from the past 2 years. I think once 5 gets out and the Nintendo fandom at large decided to hate it, prices will dip back down to what they were, or hell it may happen sooner because Nocturne HD is coming before 5.

The same shit happened with the 3ds Dragon Quest games.

I would say the DS games but 4,5, and 6 are generally rare.

Yeah honestly, I'm honestly just waiting for DQ 7's used prices to drop, as well as all of the SMT games for the 3ds. I'd love to have physical copies on my shelves. Hell if SMT4's limited edition drops down to a reasonable price on the used market, I'd spring for it.

While I do like Fire Emblem, I don't want to try going for limited editions of those games since it's a rising nintendo property and shit's gonna get expensive. Unless it turns out Vic Mignogna does voices for one of them and I can get a limited edition for that game with his signature on it. (Rare as fuck, but hey)

So, the ETA on the big SMT Price drop is around next spring huh. It'd be funny as fuck if it turned out it was all autistic scalpers attempting to make a big buck and getting fucked for it.

This is exactly what it is.

This is also assuming that 4 or 4a won't be re-released in some modern format, which is theoretically possible with minimal effort.

Eh I mean how likely is it we get 4+4a ported to the switch just to complete the set.

I can see those and the Devil Survivor games since those were fairly popular srpgs for that niche, but Soul Hackers and Strange Journey Redux don't look like shoo-ins.

Granted I'll willingly eat my hat if Atlus just says fuckit and releases all of them given that it'd just need a fresh coat of HD for almost all of them, and maybe some redoing shit for 4+4a to get the graphics to fit on a switch. If this happens, I'd staple my balls to my calves.

Strange Journey Redux already has HD assets for it.

It also hasn't stopped other companies from releasing ports of portable games of a slightly lower quality onto main consoles and PCs. Many vita games got direct ports without any major touching up.

PSP games getting ported to consoles and PC also still happens.

Oh for sure. Off the top of my head, Digimon Cyber Sleuth collection is a PSVita port to the Switch. Alliance Alive was a 3ds game originally published/distributed (?) by Atlus, and the Monster Hunter game on the switch is an enhanced port of a 3ds game. IIRC FFXII The Zodiac Age is a ps3 remaster ported to the switch?
I'm certain there's plenty of games from Bandai-Namco and Capcom that are just HD ports of older releases. Still, I'd kill for more of the good quality 3ds JRPGS to get mass ported to the switch because you know a shitload of people would buy them.
Hell, port fucking Persona Q 1+2 as a compilation and you get both an Etrian Odyssey game AND a Persona game on there.

Of non-Switch ports, Persona 4G was a Vita port to steam. Wish it'd pop onto the Switch for portability tho.

It's not looking promising that anything SMT or persona related will be using the switch as the primary console. Scramble sold the least on it overseas and the North American Nintendo fans seem to really dislike the series and the feeling has only seemed to grow. They seem to just view persona 5 as the flagship game and anything else is secondary trash in their eyes.

The switch port of Dragon Quest 11 is now being ported over to PS4, Xbox 1, and PC and it's apparently going to be 40 dollars. So at least it's not being doomed to obscurity.

Anyone have the numbers for Catherine’s port? That could be an indicator.

Otherwise, Tokyo Mirage also seemed to be a financial failure. Atlus and Nintendo just do not mix I guess.
