Man whatever happened to people just chilling and talking about their video games or w/e. I'm all for discussion, but half the time it seems like someone wants to sperg out about shit but at the same time, they don't want to hear criticism or get told their waifu/husbando isn't all that amazing.

You know this applies to the Fire Emblem fanbase more than it does AC, given the massive amount of sperging over Heroes choice of who to give summer alts in the 3H cast.

I like animal crossing, but the fanbase has definitely gotten worse with New Horizons. Back when it was just a novel little game you could play with friends, the fanbase was a lot more tolerable than their "RaYmOnD TrAnS RiGHts!!!" shit today.

On the topic of New Horizons, while I like a lot of the things it's introduced to the series, I feel like some of the dialogue isn't gonna age that well compared to earlier titles, quite a bit of it feels "2020ish" so to speak. Moreso from Flick and CJ. I don't know if that's something to do with the original text or just the american localization though.

Nah I'm mostly tired of the fact that a lot of the Nintendo-related communities/discords are so tone-policed that they go apeshit over any LGBT shit in the localizations and will attempt to unperson you if you say something like "Niles is just a Yuri stereotype" or "Edelgard is bisexual" and suddenly a dozen people go apeshit. Granted they're usually like 17-20 year olds with major issues just dogpiling for points.

Dialogue getting cut from AC makes sense. They also cut a lot of it from Paper Mario iirc? I don't play that series but apparently it's gone to the wayside in terms of writing over the last 15? or so years. Feels like Nintendo just needs better localization teams.

Maybe the one with the longest legacy due to its very long history and all the games it has, and its recent popularity, but I wouldn't call it the only notable one unless you need to be a AAA level game to be relevant by your standards.

Divinity Original Sin is basically an SRPG just without the traditional grid chess like movement system, it is quite good if you don't mind a very more western RPG feel. The original FFTactics is a cult classic of the PS1 era that is arguably better at the "More RPG then strategy game" feel FE has been going for since arguably Awakening's release because Tactics has the traditional FF job combination bullshit in a tactic game shell with a lot of crazy nonsense like the entire Calculator/Arithmetician class.

Disgaea is a series that has existed since the early 2000s, it is very anime and has a lot of reference humor which is not everyone's taste which is why it is still a niche series, but it is still a strategy rpg with a devoted fanbase and it allows you to do a lot of really dumb bullshit like literally throwing units around the battlefield and turning dragons into giant fuck off swords to hit enemies for millions of damage. NIS in general has made a lot of SRPGs over the past almost 2 decades like Phantom Brave which was a 100% grid less SRPG, Disgaea was the one that caught on ultimately.

Fire Emblem is probably the only SRPG in the business to have graduated outside of cult classic status and reached mass AAA appeal if that is your point. FFTactics as a series would probably be a bigger deal if SE didn't take 7 bajillion years to make a video game these days unless it is their MMO. Fire Emblem fell into in a really lucky position due to it being able to shamble on under Nintendo with failing sales numbers from Path of Radiance until Awakening for close to a decade and somehow bounce back.

Funny enough, Fates in OG Japan actually apparently had worse writing and portrayal overall lmfao. The Soleil support is like, one of the issues that the progressives in the fanbase complain about, but the overall tone is apparently criticized for just being weird and offputting for a Fire Emblem game, even when compared to Fe4/5.

So, as bad as the NA localization was, it didn't have all this odd stuff. I could go on and on, but let me remind yall that in the NA edition, Camilla mentions a piece of the in-game worldbuilding history called the Concubine Wars.

Come on Nintendo and Intelligent Systems, you can't just disregard that. You know it'll sell really well.

Villagers in AC no longer being characters is pretty much in line with what I've noticed elsewhere in the industry. Companies are realizing they can essentially market designs with a modicum of character and personality to a wide audience. Because each person can make up what they want for that character. I noticed it when some of the most popular girls on image boorus were characters from mobile games, to return to FE briefly the series now uses its waifus for marketing, and the latest pokemon seemed to have more girls than new pokemon.
Villagers are a similar but not identical evolution. It's essentially making memes people will share on social media and make very predictable and consumable fan content about.
