Baby characters only added as filler and for women appeal.
That I always found odd... moreso everytime they add another character to the "baby" list.
  • Mario? Fine, it was a SMW2 thing, I'll let it slide
  • Luigi? Sure, if his brother had one, why not him?
  • Peach? Wait, what, why?
  • Daisy? o...oh.....
  • Rosalina? Stop, please!
  • Wario & Waluigi? oh come on!!!

Being fair, Mario & Luigi both originated from Yoshi’s Island, and Peach, Wario, and DK all had babies in the DS sequel. The only spin-off originals are Daisy, Rosalina and Waluigi.

The babies are added just to have cute characters. They seem to be exclusively played by women, so I am assuming that is why they are added. Nintendo did state that they got more conscious of female gamers with the Wii so it would add up.

Baby Waluigi was also a major fanon character for decades before the new Tennis game. There was clearly an audience for it.

New Super Mario Bros became the through line, bringing Mario back to his roots in 2D games, but also placing a strict emphasis on how the series is defined by things like the Mega-Mushroom, Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Star, etc…
I heard New Mario is more popular in Japan, and the 3D Mario are more popular in the West.
I don't know who likes the JRPGs anymore.

I don't know if I'd go that far. While the 3D series may be more popular in the West than it is in Japan, that doesn't mean it's more popular than the 2D series in the West, or that more copies of the 2D series get sold in Japan than the West .

The only 3D game that comes close to the 2D series in terms of both worldwide and US sales is Odyssey. While Odyssey outsold New Super Mario Bros DS & Wii in the US by a couple million units, three games in the "New" series sold over 25-million copies worldwide, most of the sales being outside Japan. In the US alone, for example, NSMBW doubled Galaxy in sales. I think it's more Odyssey was really really popular in the West than 3D games generally being more popular than 2D Mario in the West.

Oh course, Mario Kart is far and away the most popular Mario game in all regions these days and totally obliterates both platforming series in terms of sales. Mario Kart World is on track to sell 20-30 million copies even if the Switch 2 only sells half what the Switch 1 does.

Honestly, pokemon and kids aside, big N held on longer than they should've thanks to being English Monster Hunter access brand, but now that they lost that rite - I seriously don't see how anyone is a fan anymore, besides plebian demographic who want a party game once a month when they gather together to circlejerk with their friends.

Pokemon's Gen X will actually sell enough to overshadow Palword....Until Pocketpair posts their next meme video and the status quo reverts back to normal

Honestly, Pal felt like a minority PC sensation that blew up solely for the hell of it. Pokemon has world rules and mostly sticks to them, whereas Pal is like autistic kid throwing EVERY available mod at the game making it a chimera.

Imagine not being able to turn off your brain and enjoy a movie for literal children. It was fun, I had fun, it was cute.
Imagine having no standards and nothing better to do with your time than to watch shit and justify it by acting as if kids don't deserve quality entertainment.

Media consoomers deserve the rope.

The problem is that Nintendo fans can't accept any type of criticism towards that fucking company. Their unwillingness to accept how shitty Nintendo is to their customers is what makes it possible for them to get away with $80 games and $10 upgrade packs for a console that has not games outside of backwards compatibility (plus DK Bananza and Pokopia).
Back in the early days of the Switch you couldn't mention performance or else a brigade of Nintendo fanboys would say that you are stupid and that framerate doesn't matter at all and that they "can't notice when it's 30 or 60 frames".
Now, guess what? They play Tears of The Kingdom at 60 frames and they have to concede that the game looks and plays much better now. But again, look at DK Bananza's performance. The game constantly dips below 40 frames when you're breaking shit and you can't say how ridiculous it is for a launch title (or almost launch title) to run like that.

I caved and bought a Switch 2 recently, i regret it a little bit because there's nothing to play on it unless you haven't kept up with video games since 2019 or so. Most third party games released for the Switch 2 i've already played on PC or PS5, and i like to collect physical media so i'd much rather buy a PS5 disc than a game key card. Plus, no achievements systems make it a less desirable alternative for me. I'm not a completionist, but if i like the game a lot then i'm probably gonna try to 100% it, it feels like a cool extra that wouldn't take any effort for them to implement.

Yeah, it's not even the early days, at that. Although. BOTW had an issue with NPCs fading in while you're zooming around on a horse. And it also gave me radiation burns while I was just exploring. At any rate, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet looked like an incredibly blurry mess at launch with the usual set of rendering shortcuts. Fire Emblem 3 Houses had it worse with NPCs just occasionally being invisible because you're running around too fast in the monastery. Three Copes had the same issue and I found an reliable way to make to tank the framerate by using this one class to summon several fire vortexes since it was an finisher to an basic combo.

There's a bit more, but I'm under the impression that it can barely handle anything that's remotely open-world
