https://youtube.com/watch?v=vqK-1WGqYmIIs the gameplay any good? Who knows? Looks like it could be.

But it has a special guest composer from Chrono Trigger so people are hype. You might be a stupid gamer if: you are buying a game for the soundtrack.

"Retro inspired turn based RPG" does not inspire confidence.
The Messenger was pretty good for the most part. Though this is a JRPG so of course the gameplay will be shit unless you find mashing confirm over and over on the same animations fun.

I guess that's one way to explain the appeal of Turn-based RPGs

Almost makes me wonder how these people can stay in business.

Almost.

I’m aware that I am more than a week late, but I stand with the (obvious) opinion that there will never be a real game creator like this that will ever exist in the future. As someone that has a Chinese clone version of the Famicom, I still have to give thanks to the original engineer and architect who created and helped build the two most iconic pieces of game consoles to be made for kids and adults to be enjoyed all over the world.

Coincidentally, for me, this was supposed to be around the same time that I actually wanted to buy both of these consoles since I never had the chance to play them up to this point.

Sure, I can find emulators for them and it would be a problem solved, but make no mistake: Uemera is one of the greatest examples of ”Nothing will ever beat the original, kid”.

Thank you to Uemera and all of the other engineers that worked hard for making consoles like this.

With that said, I’m done with the reminiscing. I just needed to post this since I didn’t know where to put it.

Did you buy them yet? They aren't too expensive you just have to do it.

With how fucking stupid modern hardware engineering has become, there's no way in hell the world is going to see something as concisely designed as an snes for several generations. Rest in peace Uemera, you and your team opened the door to a new breed of toy makers the world over.

I'm a little late to the party to speculate on Arlo, but realistically he isn't far off from what most Nintendo fanboys resemble these days. Either those that cling to Nintendo's past and buy into nostalgia, while having smooth brained takes regarding complex social issues. Though it has become trendy to think that multibillion dollar corporations are your friend, and are not merely businesses that function on coomZoomerism. Hence the life blood of these corporate entities is to shill a false personification perpetuated by market firms comprised of alcoholics. If you share your political opinions from a Jim Henson sock puppet, well then that is more of an example with the simplistic nature which these fanboys reside in. Though Peter Pan Syndrome is a mother fucker, literally what this forum was dedicated in discussing.

Anyways, regarding the general decline of Nintendo's content since the GameCube era. It is no surprise that they are currently juxtaposed in clinging on nostalgia fags that want spend their entire SSI cheques on plastic shit. I haven't bought a Nintendo console in a multitude of years since the Wii era, because of how burnt I felt in the decline of not only their game design. As well the shovel ware that was plaguing the console, along with the meme known as their chipset. It's surprising that Nintendo is still this far behind the ball in the power of their machines. Of course though Nintendo has always had a knack for gimmicks, but I haven't seen a Nintendo game worth my dollar in a multitude of years. I am honestly surprised people even consider buying games that can be emulated in far better environments than their consoles. Just observing the cash grab that was the Allstars bundle with Mario 64 not even being comparable to console emulation on Project 64 is just embarassing. Not to say it surpasses the original consoles ability to render these games natively, I'm only speaking in terms of comparing open source fan projects to Nintendo's in house emulation. The fanmade emulation scene still has leaps and bounds before it is cycle accurate to the original Nintendo 64s hardware.

I know Nintendo hates the emulation community, but just to think if they took the approach like Valve did with Half-Life or ID with Doom, they probably would be able to catch more flies with honey than vinegar. I will always love Nintendo's older content, I grew up with those games, but the current company just doesn't have the quality anymore to justify their shitty hostile business practices that they have always possessed. The fact they would shit on Rarewares original team like that with the Banjo release on the virtual store is just insulting. Especially considering they are almost a decade late to the party. I get that Microsoft had a major hold on Rare properties, but Nintendo dog fucked them after those developers carried the Nintendo 64. Arguably when Nintendo began shifting the gears from being cutting edge, to just gimmicks. Any decent developers they didn't chase away during the GameCube years, the Wii sure as hell suffered for it. I am unfamiliar with the Wii U and Switch, because I have not played them. Though the issues that have plagued both of those systems are of their own choosing.

Realistically Nintendo fanboys will never understand beyond their nostalgia goggles are the nuances of what happens when you get too comfortable and predatory. That all of your good developers flock off to different platforms. Not to say everything Nintendo has done was REEEEE terrible, but just stuff that just doesn't interest me. I don't feel like the price tag justifies buying the same game over and over again. Granted Microsoft and Sony also have embraced this faggotry, but CoomZoomers are all the same. Maybe if Nintendo dropped the gimmicks and the nostalgia pandering and get back to solid development, then I wouldn't be such a stick in the mud. Or if they perhaps implemented aspects that made their older games more appealing. Even though the intended audience was children at least the developers seemed to want to treat the player like they had a semblance of intelligence. Though this could be more of an issue of the evolution and instant feedback that tablet based technology possesses opposed to the tactile feedback that more solid state hardware, along with the memory limitations that older consoles possessed, had the developers have to think a little bit differently about the games they where designing. Just my two cents.

Nintendo never needed their consoles to have processing power comparable to PCs, Xboxs or Playstations. They always prioritized "fun" over functionality when it came to their games and consoles, at least that's the case nowadays. Hence why they opted for their consoles to have gimmicks that are worked into their exclusives.

The Wii U and Switch are honestly the more straight-forward consoles if you ask me. They still have stuff like the motion controls, but design-wise they're both consoles that you can more comfortably play the non-exclusive games on.

The fuck are you even talking about? Excepting several Wii games, Nintendo's games have been stellar since the GameCube; even the Wii U had phenomenal games despite the system not doing very well. And the Switch has had some of the best games. Do yourself a favor and get a Switch. You're missing out if you like video games. You can even play the latest AAA brown and beige snorefest vista experience or Fortnight if that tickles your fancy. And you can just ignore the weirdos like Arlo.

That goofball puppet has made some pretty decent videos. His problem is that he has a Twitter account and thinks the world needs to know his dumb fucking thoughts on things. That's the kind of stuff you voice anonymously and keep separate from your webzone. Because Republicans buy sneakers, too.

Well again I haven't purchased an Nintendo console since the Wii came out, so again I perhaps may of been overshooting in my broad term analysis in the current paradigm of what would classify as good or not regarding the general quality of Nintendo games as in the current era. In the Wii era the console was plagued with shovel ware and dog shit ports. In the sea of that, sure there where some decent games that where first party. A lot of my issue is that Nintendo is very difficult regarding their third parties in that era. Nintendo priorities are some what jarring to me, considering the approval process when it came to third party games in that timeframe.

Things obviously have changed now, which if the Switch has some better options in that respect;. Which somewhat I sort of heard some things about, I would consider getting a Switch just for the sake of giving it a try. I wouldn't get it for the sake of AAA or games that have better ports on other consoles though. A lot of those games just don't seem to perform with the Switches architecture in mind.

If some of you guys have some suggestions for some good Switch games for me to check out, I'll consider giving an unbiased look at it. Regarding puppet boy, I agree unequivocally. He does have some decent videos, I have seen his stuff before. Though he should seperate his politics from his content, a lot of these YouTubers need to do that if their channel isn't related to that sort of political sperging.

If you want good games on Switch, than play Odyssey or Breath of The Wild. Both titles are super ambitious and I feel they are peak Nintendo.

FE Three Houses is also pretty good. It has some rushed areas, but the characters are engaging and it has a fun customization system.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is up there as being the best 2D platformer ever made. It and Rayman Legends are must buys if you are a fan of the genre.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a technical marvel that makes the most of Switch graphics. It has really diverse level themes, and stellar animation.

Splatoon 2 is great for online multiplayer. It took a while to get there, but after so many updates, the game is really fun, though you may want to play 3 instead.

Please elaborate. I don't see shovelware as an issue. It is easy to spot and you can just ignore it. All popular consoles have shovelware. Have you played the Nintendo Entertainment System?

PlayStation 2 was the king of shovelware, yet it still is and should be considered one of the best consoles of all time and best of its era.

Kinda surprised there isn't a dedicated Nintendo hate thread.

Anyway, I kinda/sorta hate how the Wii U is designed. Don't get me wrong, I think the tablet was slept on hard by third party devs, but both the physical console and the firmware is pretty bad.

On the subject of storage....
  1. At most, you've got 32gb of onboard flash memory that's basically unupgradable, if you're a sucker who bought an 8 gig model, sucks to be you.
  2. Because of how handles USB power, you practically need an externally powered HDD enclosure if you want to expand, as a Y-cable won't supply enough power when it's shut off, and corruption is a bitch.
  3. It carries over an issue the Wii had regarding flash drive burnout, as it constantly reads and writes to flash drives when loading games off of them (I ruined a brand new 128gb flash drive just by 100%ing Metroid Prime 1 and 2, didn't even get to touch 3).
  4. Storage devices are keyed to your console, meaning you have to reinstall everything if you ever switch consoles.
  5. It complains when you unplug a storage device when it's powered off. As in, it puts up a screen you have to do a hard shutdown on to get rid of it bitching about you should unplug the console before removing devices. Which then triggers another message telling you that you shouldn't do a hard shutdown. A console in 2013 barely supported USB hotplugging.
The system UI's not much better. In 20 years, when all of the battery packs have lost their life, or the tablet screens have been out of production for a decade, you won't be able to do shit in the options menu, because it forces you to use the tablet to do even the most basic of things, like set up an internet connection.

And finally, it's biggest flaw is the case. Unless you bought a special edition Wii U that came with clips so you could lay it upright, you're only ever going to lay it flat. Why on earth they decided it needed rounded edges, I'll never know.

Still makes a pretty good emulation machine. Been meaning to replace my power supply with a USB-C port, I'm surprised that massive thing can be replaced with a dimpy little phone charger.

We have four of them. Dozens more if you count the threads for each game. Nintendo's biggest fans are the ones that hate Nintendo the most.

Motherfuckers and their goddamn volleyball challenge on Odyssey can fuck a cactus. I thought the jump rope was bad and then I remembered I was putting off the volleyball.

I got my Wii U in its first year and figured they'd speed up the loading times between menus. They never did, lol. Even the settings menu has a lengthy loading screen.

I'm not too worried about battery replacements, as even semi-obscure systems like the Game Boy Micro still have new batteries you can buy online. Plus, if the tablet can run off of direct power without a battery, that'd be lovely.

Didn't know about flash drive burnout though, damn. Does it have the same issue with SD cards? I hacked mine a long time ago but barely ever used it afterwards.

It's a shame the Wii U is just kinda shit, it's a neat console in a lot of ways, and a really nice way to play DS games on the TV.

I've been using the same 32gb SD card since launch, but I've never played games off it. The closest I've gotten is loading BOTW mods through SDcaffiine. I'm actually surprised at how long it's held up, I must've written like 2tb to it for the sake of installing games.

On the subject of DS games, I'm pretty surprised at how compatible VC injections are. I remember how much of a guessing game nightmare N64 injections were back on the Wii, but a decently large number of games don't require anything specific. Never thought I'd see Heartgold or 358/2 Days running that well on home console.
