Ninja Gaiden was first released in October, 1988 for the Nintendo Entertainment System aka NES. The game features Ryu Hayabusa a dragon/human hybrid ninja who is the leader of the Hayabusa clan. Ryu Hayabusa is also a character in the Dead Or Alive game series which is also by the company Tecmo.

Here is some YT featuring gameplays of the game series:

Ninja Gaiden, 1988, NES

Ninja Gaiden II, 1990, NES

Ninja Gaiden III, 1991, NES

Ninja Gaiden, Xbox remake, 2004

My favourite game from the Ninja Gaiden series is Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus for the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita

Not to be a contrarian faggot but... I love Ninja Gaiden 3 the most. That is, the Jap version. It's easier, infinite continues, better htiboxes than 1 and 2 and it's just fun. The American version is as fun as slamming nails in your balls.

It also has a really fun biomechanic level. The game reminds me a lot of Shinobi 3.

That's one of the things I love about the original Ninja Gaiden games is that it gives you the Shinobi feel.

I liked them all up to Black, I haven't played any later ones.

You should definitely try Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, especially if you enjoy getting the full story on Ryu Hayabusa.

I've only played the NES Ninja Gaiden games. Also, it was originally an arcade beat em up.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=f1BHfHyrIUgNinja Gaiden also ties into the Dead or Alive series.

Yep! Both game series are made by Tecmo/Team Ninja. Ryu Hayabusa was introduced to Dead Or Alive in it's first game back in 1996.

I really want to play Ninja Gaiden Black, but unfortunately there seems to be no way to do so. It never came to PC, I couldn't find an emulation solution, and I just don't care enough to dust off my original xbox and order the game that way.

Why is this the first time that we have a Ninja Gaiden thread?

Also, Momiji for the win

Ninja Gaiden 1 on Xbox despite probably being the one game that made me die the most (outside multiplayer games). Seriously, that game was Dark Souls before Dark Souls was even a thing and yet all these pussies like to talk about how that series is hard. Melon farmers...try fighting Alma in the hardest difficulty especially in the DLC without using potions (you're a pussy if you have to use potions).

only played sigma 2 on ps3 but i heard they made the game super easy and not the true ninja gaiden experience. didint get far beacuse i accidentally broke the disc. (it was the fucking case fault that broke the disc).

The fact that you got booted back to the start of 6-1 after you died against the final boss convinced me that this series is a mental weapon specifically crafted to instill hatred of the japanese into modern youths.

The Xbox Ninja Gaiden is one of the greatest games of all time.

I love how weird it's setting of Tairon is, a city that's a blend of european and middle eastern architecture and has a gothic cathedral, an Egyptian tomb, a Cambodian temple and an Aztec pyramid all somehow within the same city.

The Xbox 360 Ninja Gaiden II also has one really weird detail I've never seen anyone mention and that's all of the items like keys you collect, if you inspect them in the menus, have incredibly detailed backstories, like in the Venice level you find a key that has a backstory about how it was fashioned by a locksmith so two lovers could meet in secret and stuff like that.

It's weird that they would put so much detail into something most gamers probably wouldn't notice, but it's really cool.

When are we going to start admitting that there can be such a thing as "too hard" to the point that takes the fun out of it?

Some gamers seem to have the attitude of "the harder, the better!" but not me, I appreciate a challenge but sometimes things can be taken too far.

I liked them all up to Black, I haven't played any later ones.

I've not played anything after the original Xbox 360 version of Ninja Gaiden II, but that game while not as good as the first, it still really awesome as well.

Yes, they could all use a modern digital re-release.

Momiji is nice but Rachel is pretty clearly the best Ninja Gaiden girl.

Battletoads hits that point of "too hard."

It aint NGB, but Ninja Gaiden Sigma is fully playable via emulation, and I was able to do 4k60. Still a damn fine version of the game, and it has the most Rachel of any of them as well.
