Nik's detoriation is especially sad in the context he was adopted from the Ukraine. Orphanages there are fucking awful. Nic being adopted gave him an opportunity to have a completely different life than he would have had in the Ukraine and the one the many children who weren't adopted were left with. He could have done so much with it.
